Every time I try joining the IRC chat, it kicks me out because it says my IP address is blacklisted. How the heck did my IP address get on any banned lists? And why? I was able to get in before by changing my IP address (release and renew), but that does not always work here. Proxies aren't allowed.
I'd appreciate some help. And I'd like to not have to deal with this every time I want to enter the IRC.

What internet provider do you have and would there be any reason to black list you? (Outside U.S., terrorist watch list, etc.) Also can you connect to any other irc? Do you have Java?

Check your router home page (something like 192.0.0.1) and see how often you've set your computer to receive new IP addresses. You should be able to change this to suit your own tastes (Dynamic IP refreshes can range from 5 minutes to months).
Then just do another release/renew command.

Yes, it always gives me that message when I try joining with this campus' default IP address. I decided to actually investigate today and found this:

It's blacklisted on a couple other blocking sites, too, because of CBL blocking it. Every computer on this campus is using the same IP address, right? Because I am VERY sure I do not have any trojans on my computer. Am I getting blacklisted because another person on campus has one and is getting our IP raped?
Also, even though my computer was on at the time that was detected, I've had my computer on MUCH earlier than that today (since the morning). It looks to me like another person's comp around here is giving me this problem. Am I wrong?

If you're on campus, and your school doesn't offer multiple IPs, then you could get around this by using a simple proxy. I'll suggest Hotspot Shield if you want the speed, and TOR if you're paranoid.

I've been getting around it by changing my IP address. Release/renew works pretty well and gives me a similar IP (but different) that isn't blocked and doesn't get blocked (further proof it isn't my comp with the trojan?).
Proxies don't work for getting into the IRC here, unless I was doing it wrong. Lol And it's not like I have anything to be worried about, right? I know it's not my computer with that trojan.

Your school is probably using some other internet provider out there which is giving you different IPs. Queer people at your school get certain IPs blocked, so whenever you change you IP to one of those, you'll get blocked as well. You don't have anything to worry about. Although, I should just scare you and say that your computer probably has 5,000 viruses and you need to reformat as soon as possible. Throw away all your data. E-mail me your Account ID, Passoword, and PIN to prevent yourself from being hacker. Hurry! Time is running out!
IP Release/Renews shouldn't be that hard. It all depends on how often your school can get a new IP. I still believe that Hotspot shield should work just fine in your situation though.

Possibly someone else on your network is infected, and you happened to get the same IP that an infected computer had previously had. You'll just have to use release/renew and hope that the infected person cleans their computer up eventually and the blocklist takes them off. And that the infected person doesn't eventually get the entire IP range available to you blocked.

I have the same exact IP every day I turn on my computer. I assume that's the default one given by the campus server. It's always that same one that is blacklisted and gives me trouble. The new one I get when I release/renew is usually the same, too, and isn't blacklisted and hasn't gotten blacklisted.
I'd just like to know the idiot around here who has an infected computer that is getting our IP blacklisted.
