Why... - ManOnTheMoon - 2011-02-19 do I feel so demoralized when playing this game? This game looks so childish, yet 18+ year olds play this game as if it was call of duty. I swear I hate this, I always end up wanting to come back to it only to play for a few days and quit again. The main reason is because I always have to hide the fact I play this game. Its too embarrassing to let people know I would play this game at the age of 19... anyone else around my age feel the same way? Edit: Actually, this game isnt "gay" from the way I make it sound, its just... I wish this game would look more like the way Call of Duty does. Wouldnt you say so? This is probably the best free mmorpg Ive ever played but I can never see myself playing this at my age like I do call of duty. Why... - Worthyness - 2011-02-19 Angry dome thread? I play maple every now and then, but that's because i'm no good at FPS and don;t have access to other online games besides SC2. i play because i like the people in my guild. they're fun people. PLUS you have those other people who play WoW at like 40. you're good. Why... - Killed - 2011-02-19 it's the player competition that attracts me. it all looks like a little kid game, but the actual gameplay really isnt Why... - Dredragon - 2011-02-19 I'm not sure what you mean by "the gameplay isn't kidish" All you do is spam one skill. I like to come back once in a while, since I though Big bang's eaiser leveling would make it more fun, but no. Level 80, I got bored of spamming the same 1~2 skills. Also; Cough cough not kidish or boring cough.. I think if you can actually pay attention to the game for the most part, then it's probably a good game. And I don't know about you, but when playing maple, most people I know will watch tv, or do something else while playing. When I play dfo, I'm glued to my monitor. Try it out. Why... - Beg - 2011-02-19 Only reason I wouldn't bring it up in conversation is because the chances of finding someone else still playing gMS on a relatively small campus thousands of miles away from the north american continent in a region that has its own localised version of the game that all newer players are filtered to is pretty much zero. Not embarrassed about playing this game, maybe a little ashamed given how much grief it has given me lately though. Wait what, trying to compare CoD to Maple? FPSs and RPGs, can't really be compared on an online multiplayer level IMO. If you like CoD more play that, simple as. If you feel you have "outgrown" Maple then by all means stop. You are not obliged to continue playing. Why... - Sorien - 2011-02-19 I play Maple Story specifically because it's so childish and ridiculous. It's not hard to let people in my college know that I play it either, especially since I live on a floor full of nerds that are all getting into WoW and LoL. As long as I don't go and act as if playing Maple is something to be ashamed of, people won't go pouncing on the chance to make me feel as if I've committed some sin because I'm 18 and still playing a childish game. I also think maple would lose the appeal if it were given graphics like CoD. Maple was always meant to be childish, that's its entire attraction. And as Beg stated before me, a first person shooter can't really be compared to a roll playing game, they're in two completely different genres. Why... - Death - 2011-02-19 u liek ms? play it ;o u dun liek ms? dun play it ;o No but seriously i play it too and people know i play it and say oh hey he's playing that mushroom/snail game xD Just say oh well there's actually alot more behind that then you actually think. If you haven't played the game for at least a few months then you have no freaking right to say anything about it in the first place. (: (I'm 18 btw) started when i was 13. Still love it. xD Chibi lovers anyone? ;D Why... - SaptaZapta - 2011-02-19 LF> Maple "skins". So people who are ashamed/uncomfortable when people look over their shoulders and see brightly-colored 2D chibi graphics and think "he's playing a kid's game", can have sombre realistic gore suitable for Real Men. Real Men who play vidyagaems, that is. Why... - OB3LISK - 2011-02-19 Killed Wrote:it's the player competition that attracts me. it all looks like a little kid game, but the actual gameplay really isnt The biggest competition in this game is: 1. Who can buy the most nx to fund their character better. 2. Who has the best dc hacks to prevent others from bossing. Real special game here. I'm eighteen and I just kinda quit for WoW, but I wasn't embarrassed to play, a game is a game. And you're expecting too much from this game to go as far as saying they should restructure it to look more like another game. You should really quit and find a new game if you feel that way. Why... - TaliaNCo - 2011-02-19 I guess I should be REALLY embarrassed then lol. I'm twice your age and I still play it. I don't care what anyone thinks about me playing Maple or other games like it. There are worse things I could do with my time. Why... - Unauthorized Intruder - 2011-02-19 I'm little embarrassed when I tell other people that I play maple. In fact, I'm embarrassed to tell anybody that I play an online game instead of study. But that doesn't stop me from playing maple. It's not illegal. It doesn't do any harm to other people. There's no reason to be ashamed because you're doing what you want to do. I'm 20. Why... - SuperKoopa - 2011-02-19 Don't let other people control what you do. I'm 18 as well and I don't hesitate to say that I play Maple. I like the game, and I embrace my geekiness. Why... - ShanghaiDizzy - 2011-02-19 I'm reminded of the times it was embarrassing to say you're 16 years old and watch cartoons/anime. Now, it's a widely accepted fact that 20+ year olds still watch cartoons/anime. Maple's the same way. It's not a game where you have to hide inside of a closet for playing especially since nowadays, the majority of the players are actually 19+. Why... - Alex123123 - 2011-02-19 You know, you don't HAVE to tell anyone you play the game. I know I don't. ![]() If you're unable to keep things "hidden" because of other reasons (like lack of privacy), then I feel for you. No matter how much I go philosophical on myself (be youself and all that crap), I still feel like I should be embarrassed about letting other people know I play this kind of games (or do some other stuff...) because I was raised to believe in what society deems "normal". Indeed, society is a scary thing. Won't stop me from doing whatever I want behind closes doors though. Privacy ftw. Why... - Born2BeMild - 2011-02-19 I let people know that I play this game proudly, no one is surprised because I am "that guy who loves video games." Why... - Daimean - 2011-02-20 *In the closet about maple* well not really since some of my friends irl play too I just don't openly go up to my other friends and say I play(ed) maple since most of them either hate mmorpgs or is obsessed with starcraft. Edit: oh...and I'm almost 19 Why... - QSCX - 2011-02-20 You're insecure. Be yourself and people will like you more that way. Don't try to put up an image of what you want to look like to others. Why... - CrazyNomad - 2011-02-21 i know 5x old people that play maple in broa, maple is just another game to kill time, its not because you are 4x you need to play CoD or other hardcore game, you play what you think it is fun for you. Why... - Seanny - 2011-02-21 I miss the old gamer days. Back when everything on the SNES/NES looked kiddy in some way or form. and since there wasn't a 'badass' standard back then, the most popular games were just the games we found the most fun, and not what looked fashionable to play/ everyone was playing it. (Well, sports games back then somewhat had that kinda pull, but not as strong as today by far.) This is why i feel right at home with my 2d cartoony games: its the past-time i grew up on. If anything, I'm being true to that by preferring Maple Story. Are you being you when you quit or being what 'won't get jokes put on me'? You can either honor your tastes, not let people hate on them easily and find people who don't mind the things you like (or approve of). Or you can force your preferences to suit the people you wanna relate to. The latter works fine. but the former makes me feel free and I like to choose people instead of them choosing me, just saying. (Age 23 btw.) Why... - PikaTea - 2011-02-21 I'm 27, and I like MS, nothing to embarrassing. I love kids, I love pets, I love MS 's features. Why I have to feel embarrassing bcoz I love something? And if you ask me, I think MS is not a childish game. I played many MMORPG b4, and I think MS is not something simple. There're many jobs, and each job has many different ways to build up, which will give you many choice to enjoy the game. Tbh, some MMORPG just has a simple way to play, when you'll be given certain skills at certain levels, and you have no other choice but to max them one by one. If you think playing MS is just spamming some skill, then I wanna ask you this: Why you and others re doing same thing "spamming skill"; but they 're stronger, richer, and have more fun? It's not what to do, it's how to do, be smarter pls. I dont think I'm so rich in game, but I've never paid a penny for MS... and I got 15x char, some 3 lines unique item, permanent cash shop item & pets ... and my fortune worth more than 10bils (not including my gear). Dont look at me, I just play few hours per day, for about 8 months. It's a game, and that's all. Have fun! |
