Which is more useful (training purposes), Rush or Monster Magnet? - Link - 2011-01-06

I know Rush is really good for pushing bosses, but which would speed training up further? Back before Big Bang, my Japanese friend, who was a Paladin, told me that she loved Monster Magnet far more than she loved Rush and it helped training far more than Rush did.

How does that stand after Big Bang? What are your thoughts or feelings about them?

Monster Magnet looks like a lot of fun to play with (not my video, obviously) :

Put one point in each and you're set. Maxing Rush is stupid anyway since now all it does is increase MP usage.

way i see it. If you don't feel like moving: magnet. You feel like moving: rush.

lol at ping pong possibilities Tongue

Fortunately, you don't really have to choose.
Both of them are very effective at level 1, so just put a point in each and use depending on the situation.

Haven't had a chance to train much since BB, but here's my 2 bits (based also on the wisdom of my Heroing mentor):

The difference between Rush and Monster Magnet is that Rush moves you (and the mobs) forward and MM brings mobs to you.
Once you have killed these mobs, where do you want to be?
If you are training on a map with long platforms (ToT for example), you want to be forward, so you have less to walk to find the next enemies to kill. If, however, you're close to a wall, or training on a map with short platforms (Ludi), might as well pull the mobs to you instead.

Note that both skills have the annoying attribute that they first hit the mobs where they stand, then move them. This means that if Rush/MM kill (rare, but happens if you have an insta-kill adventurer ring, or are using it on weak enemies), their drops are where they used to be, and not where you are. If you're a compulsive looter like me, that's annoying.

You only need one point in both, but if I had to pick one, I'd pick Rush. Training 1st-3rd job Warriors is extremely annoying for me.

Alright. Thanks, guys.

I also realized that Monster Magnet stuns, which works out GREAT for Chance Attack. Biggrin

There's no reason to level Rush past 1, unless every other 4th job skill is maxed. All leveling rush does now is increase the MP cost and damage, but the distance is the same from level 1 through 30.

I asked this very question just as my DK got to 120 and job advancement.. As per some people's inspiration, I put one point in each. Actually it's highly useful to combine the two, rushing a small mob forward then using MM to pull more to you. If rush collects only a couple mobs, then MM often will add a few more to it. My DrK has been enjoying this huge mobbing pull since 120, and it's made leveling very easy.

Yay! That's my video ^^
I'd like to add that I love both rush and monster magnet, and in combination with each other, they work out very well. When training on gigantic/spirit vikings, I:
- Rush
- Monster Mag to pull them close and stun
- Jump over their magic attack and into the monster to get hit by touch damage rather than magic. 600 vs 1300 damage.
- Intrepid Slash
- Either kill (or repeat from rush, depending on mob size)

I can put up a video if that would be a simpler method of explanation Tongue
Monster magnet is great as you said for chance attack. It also has a surprisingly large range. It's a bunch of fun too Tongue
One thing to note is that if other people are attacking a group of monsters, you will be unable to pull them with monster magnet, even if you are in a party. You have to get them before anyone else touches them.
