PS3 and PSP security go down the crapper - Rob - 2011-01-04 Well, first of all, Sony is epic fail. I don't use those words often, but they made a huge boo boo just like Nexon releasing an unpacked client. Hell, this is bigger. Long story short, hackers have decoded security keys used to sign software for both the PSP and the PS3. What can you use this for? Sign your own software! No need to have Custom Firmwares, Jailbreaking, anything. Some older models after the 80Gig models still had the GS chip for software emulation. Only the original 20 and 60 gig models still had the GS and EE chips. Emulating the PS2 would take a lot but with High Level emulation in which a dynamic recompiler or interpreter is used to translate calls to the Cell CPU and a proper driver for the Nvidia RSX written, then it technically could happen. Compatibility would be sketchy at first, but over time it could get very good. But I have heard where a group of hackers did use a cluster of PS3s to crack the SSL algorithm.
