How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - Khoi - 2011-01-03 I'm very curious, because if I were to trace back history of what kind of music I used to like, and what I like today, it's not even the same at all. When I was younger around the age of 13 until 16, I started listening to Japanese Pop a lot because of anime. I would actually enjoy hearing the opening songs for certain anime, and would try to find out who the artist(s) were, and looked it up. That's how I started with Japanese Pop. As I got into High School, because most of my friends were Caucasians that listens to Metal, I started trying to get into Metal. At the time, I didn't like Metal at all and thought it was just stupid. Eventually, around my college years, I started listening to Metal more and more, and that's why I enjoy bands like Children of Bodom, Blind Guardian, etc. I even got into Disturbed, which wasn't technically Metal (considered Nu-Metal and Hard Rock). Disturbed has since been my favorite band. Around 2 years ago, I got extremely depressive over certain problematic situations that arose in my life. I discovered Visual Kei for the first time in my life. Visual Kei is basically a sub-genre of Japanese Rock, but with bands that have males that dresses and styles themselves really.. feminine. I wouldn't think that I'd like something like that, but unlike most of the genre I previously listened to, VK is extremely.. and I mean this, EXTREMELY flexible. It can go anywhere from Rock, Hard Rock, Melodic Metal (maybe), ballads, etc. Most of the bands in VK ends up dedicating their songs about their past, usually about romance and love, or even tragedy. I eventually got into it more and more. My first band I listened to would be シド(which is "SID"). Started way before they did an opening called "Uso" on FMA: Brotherhood. <___< Ever since, I've been extremely attached to Visual Kei, even if most of their fanbase = girls. PS: Post a couple vids of the music you enjoy nowadays!

I don't know many people that went from Rap to anything similar to Metal. They're just so different!
How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - Rob - 2011-01-03 Late 90s: Limp Bizkit (my eldest cousin is into heavy, thrash and whatnot) Limp Bizkit is one of my favorite bands even today. (If you ever want to rock my world give me a drink and Nookie, you're set), so pretty much Nu Metal in their beginnings. Early 00s: Rap (Eminem with My Name Is first, then from Snoop Dogg through Nas, Outkast to Public Enemy, I used to listen EVERYTHING) Mid 00s: Rap, Black Music in general (I started listening to a lot of Jazz, Blues and R&B), I dug a lot into other forms of metal (namely Metallica, Iron Maiden, Angra, Power Metal in general) and I started listening to Japanese and Korean music (well, I'd always liked anime introductions, back in 90s and Sailor Moon/Dragon Ball/Evangelion days). Late 00s: I pretty much ditched some rap (I still listen to a lot of songs though) and I focus on new stuff all the time. I'm pretty eclectic, so you can see me listening reggae, hard rock, rap, J-pop or Jazz all in one go. I never said that I've always liked electronic music. I loved early dance and techno songs (not the silly techno Americans listen to, but Euro stream techno), and as of today, Trance, House, Minimal and a whole plethora of genres are sex to my ears. I listen to pretty much everything actually. How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - Spaz - 2011-01-03 Call me a loser, but I got into electronica in general as a result of Flash Flash Revolution and Stepmania. I got into hardcore as a result of the Mungyodance stepfile packs. I wasn't really aware of those genres previously and didn't listen to music at all. How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - yoosergio - 2011-01-03 Since I'm only 15 and I got interested in music lately, (the only thing that was of my interest was video games) my conversion is short... So, really the only songs I liked were those in that TV program from Chile "31 Minutos" and some occasional TV/Movie/Video game song. I listened to Simple Plan, and a friend introduced me into Interpol. Then I got interested in Green Day after listening to American Idiot and until now, it's my favorite band... I got a little interested in punk and listened to Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and The Clash. Started listening to System of a Down, Rhapsody of Fire, and Avenged Sevenfold then Muse and Queen. I listened to The Killers, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! At the Disco. And I really like video games music, but the only I listen to is Crush 40 (Sonic). I still listen to all/most of the bands.

How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - Bribery - 2011-01-05 I listen to quite a variety of music genres and I think it's because of MuchMusic. It's a Canadian TV channel that plays music videos from just about every genre. I used to watch it religiously when I was younger. I mostly listen to Pop, Rap/Hip-Hop, and R&B music though. How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - bio9205 - 2011-01-11 Call me a mindless fool, but I realize all I listen to are popular songs. I'm okay with anything as long as it's not heavy metal or rap. ...And I'm addicted to Glee covers. No, I'm not gay, but the covers they do are lovely. How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - Slaking - 2011-01-11 When I was about 12 I listened to some Habbo radio station, they played all sorts of stuff that I liked there but at that time I didn't know how to use the internet very well so I never got around searching the artists on my own. Then I started playing Maple, after a while I didn't listen to the radio station anymore but watched at lot of Maple videos, due to Ayumilove I got into trance and techno. About a half year later I got into Hardstyle thanks to a friend of me who listens to hardcore. After that I've had loads of genres I listened to, Hardcore, Metal, Rock, some country and Pop. At the moment I'd say the main genres I listen to are Aggrotech, Industrial and Psy-trance. How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - -Ghost- - 2011-01-11 I've always been fine listening to all kinds of genres since I was little, but I think the first genres that I really took a liking to were rock, metal, etc. I used to put some on (Those Music Choice channels so it was constant music) and go to sleep to it. Around Junior High I bought an Anime/Manga/Other Japanese crap magazine and in it there was a page of Dir En Grey where they were wearing the look they had in their Saku music video. I thought, ''Oh man, these guys look awesome!'', started listening to their music and that's how I ended up discovering my favorite genre, J-Rock, and my favorite band of all time, Dir En Grey. How did you started listening to the music genres that you enjoy today? - CookieTime - 2011-01-11 I'm currently 15 years old, and when I grew up I used to just listen to whatever was on the television or whatever my brothers listened to at the time. They were listening to hip-hop and rap and all of that kind of stuff, so I did the same. It wasn't until 2009 (Yes that long ) however when I really started to listen to music, beginning with Daft Punk and their album "Discovery". I listened through all the albums multiple times and from that point, I started listening to one musician the most. Sort of like phases, and they went something like this:Daft Punk > Justice > Crystal Castles > Deadmau5 > Animal Collective > Flying Lotus At the moment I listen mostly to Flying Lotus. But I also listen to Deadmau5 as well, along with some Crystal Castles, Kanye West (his new album of course), and other random artists too. But mostly Flying Lotus. edit: I just realised I didn't really say the exact genres I listen to, so I guess it would Electronic/Hip-hop/Rap/Experimental/Dubstep/Indie or something like that :f6:

Not liking music much=>Whatever new rap was out=>Alternative/Underground Rap=>Techno (Yay daft punk)=>Soul/70s music=>Classic Jazz=>Classic Rap (Just bought 'The Chronic' and is loving it). Sprinkle a little vidya game/animu music in there and thats it. I pretty much listen to everything listed except Rap from 2005 onwards, cause it all starts to run together after that point. Got into rock after listening to Boulevard. Heard Simple and Clean on TV. Learned it on piano, realized it was originally Japanese, started listening to Utada Hikaru, which lead me into j-pop/j-rock/c-pop/c-rock/ and korean stuff. Nowadays it's anything that I think sounds good, so it could be any genre, any song, any artist. I just would take their CDs. Then in middle school I got my own computer and started to download m y own music, and I started listening to more alternative rock because I was growing tired of the retarded lyrics in rap. About this time my best friend and his brother started listening to bands like Cradle of Filth which really turned me off from metal since I thought they sounded horrible and they had horrible lyrics. For a few years I was very close minded to heavier metal, till my friend started driving and he'd drive me to school. He played a lot of metalcore in his car, and I liked it a lot more since it sounded more varied and had decent lyrics. Now that's all I listen to now, pretty much.
