Wireless cuts out when phone rings - DrRusty - 2011-01-02

So... when I'm on my computer, and the phone rings (or I call someone using my phone) the wireless cuts out. The wired internet (connected to that same router) works just fine on the main home computer it's connected to but my laptop loses all signal to it for the duration of any phone call/phone ringing.

I looked up the problem on google and there were a bunch of answers saying that the wireless router and the phone line operate on the same frequency causing interference with the wireless network. My question is, how do I solve this? I found a lot of answers about changing some settings on the modem but I don't know how to do that.

Anyone have any advice?

Forgot the name atm but theres an attachment you can get from places like radio shack or w.e to plug into the modem/wall to stop that.

you need to change the broadcasting channel on your router.

Just move the wireless phone away, so that it won't cause packet loss in your internet.

If the phone's frequency is strong, that won't change anything. Putting the phone and wireless net on different channels is the easiest solution without having to move anything.

gonna need the router name

Check to make sure you DO in fact have DSL Filtering modules plugged into ALL phone outlets in the house, even if they do not have a phone attached to them. This WILL cause internet disruption, even if the line you have is dedicated solely for DSL purposes.

I'll post the router info when I get home. I'm at school right now
