Looks really ugly and out of place.....I wish they put a little bit more effort in designing it so it would have looked less pixelated

pretty hard to do that. They're doing pixel doubling to create that. In essence, each normal 1 pixel becomes a 2 x 2 block. That's why the character is 4x larger than normal.
They don't need to anti-alias anything because the pixels are already anti-aliased.
