Tournament of Picks - Lord Xela - 2010-12-19
And so it begins. The format of this will be as follows: 2 divisions, east and west, each with 12 songs, one from each user per division. The first round will be 3-way matches, and from there on each round will be a simple 1v1. Anyone can vote, whether they submitted songs or not, but I request that people who DID submit songs don't say which ones are theirs (at least until they get knocked out of the running). I'll let each round go on for, we'll say, 2 days to give people ample time to get votes in - after all, each voter has to listen to 24 songs and pick favorites. One request to voters, though: if you submit votes, please vote in every round and not just a few. You don't have to do them all at once (you can post, then edit later), but try to vote in all the rounds if you vote at all. And please vote. Popularity contests don't work without votes. <_<

East:
Match 1: The Black Mages - Skies Above. Was a close match between this and Skyclad. Would have been close between CLANNAD's song and Skyclad, but then the beat picked up on Skies Above, and I just had to go with it.
Match 2: Minus the Bear - Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse. Not really any option here. The 3rd song didn't really appeal to me, but I did enjoy it's upbeat tempo and speed, and the Disney song was good, but I have other Disney songs I like better, like Hellfire or Circle of Life.
Match 3: American Hi-Fi - Flavor of the Weak Was stuck between American Hi-Fi and Santana. Usually I'm not a big Santana fan, but this is one of my favorite songs by them, and Flavor of the Weak is overall extremely upbeat and incites my pulse. Decided to go with American Hi-Fi, but it was incredibly close.
Match 4: Sick Puppies - Odd One. Good songs all around in this one. The tempo of the second song had me enjoying it quite a bit, but like a lot of video game songs, it always feels both unfinished and not having reached it's full potential due to the fact that it's usually put on repeat. Sick Puppies is a band I also happen to like, and after listening to it a few times, Odd One, oddly enough, grew on me.
West
Match 1: Tales of the Abyss - Meaning of Birth. First song was basic metal/rock, which, although it is something I like, the pacing and uplifting sounds of Meaning of Birth stuck with me. Quite enjoyed it.
Match 2: Ronald Jenkees - Stay Crunchy. The lowest tier bracket in the tourney. None of the songs in this bracket should go any further than this single round, simply because there are FAR better songs on the roster. Chose the one I personally liked the best out of them. The songs in the bracket are fun, and decent, but I wish I could put songs from other brackets here to give them better chances.
Match 3: Luka Megurine - 7 Days. Wonderful song. I like Deadmau5, and Strobe is probably one of my favorite songs by him, but it couldn't hold a candle to this song. Very fun and upbeat, with a nice sound. Kinda reminds me of Animal Crossing. lol
Match 4: Sanxion7 - EternuS. Pretty decent song selections. Chose this one over the other two because the beat was good. Personally I'd rank them as Sanxion > Dog Fashion Disco > 5cm Per Second.
Listened to all songs multiple times at once over a course of 3 different times to make sure I was going for the song as it was and not just how I felt at the moment.[/COLOR]

Perhaps the next game can be a specific genre or something like that so that things are a bit less biased? Dunno, I think it's fine, but I can see how depending on the match up, it can be vastly unfair to certain songs. Also taking a page from Dual's book, I'll edit as I work through the list as well.
East:
Match 1. Lia - Toki wo Kizamu Uta - Not my favorite Clannad song, but that's mostly because the ending theme is just too infectious. Not in a metal mood atm, so while I enjoyed them, Cllannad takes the cake.
Match 2. Minus the Bear - Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse - Not a big disney person, especially not the little mermaid. I've heard way better Electronic music before, so that just left the one that was bearable. XP
Match 3. American Hi-Fi - Flavor of the Weak - Not a big fan of Santana, so that was out right away. DFO Ost is decent, but I listen to my own songs while playing anything DFO and most games, so after that it was easy to pick American Hi-Fi.
Match 4. FFX OST - To Zanarkand - A bit of a tough one at first, but as I wasn't all that into the Lufia OST, it came down to the FFX OST and Sick Puppies. In the end, while I enjoyed the Sick Puppies, they just weren't quite there for me. FFX OST, while far from my favorite final fantasy series, is still Final Fantasy with the same easy to recognize music, and with that comes all the good times I've spent playing the series.
West:
Match 1. Tales of the Abyss - Meaning of Birth - A tough decision, however it ended up being relatively easy at the same time. While all are good, I ended up wanting to relisten to the Tales of Abyss after I had played it once, and I couldn't say that about either Warriors of Time or El Camino Real. Not that they weren't good, but one listen through was enough for me.
Match 2. Weird Al Yankovic - Everything You Know is Wrong - Took a bit for me to decide, but I found myself enjoy Weird Al more than Ronald Jenkees. While it wasn't bad, I think I generally tend to favor music with lyrics, especially interesting ones. Either song would have won against Van Atta High though, as it sounded rather generic to me.
Match 3. Florence & The Machine - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) - Not exactly an easy one to decide, seems the West Bracket is full of them. While I enjoyed deadmau5 and Luka Megurine, I have other songs from deadmau5 I prefer, and other artists from electronica I prefer. As for the the vocaloid, I like what I like, and while it wasn't terrible, it was in no way near the infectiousness of other songs.
Match 4. Sanxion7 - EternuS - Pretty difficult decision for the final one. In the end I had to pick Snxion7, but it was difficult to go with as Dog Fashion Disco was very good indeed. The ending theme for 5cm per second was just completely dead in the water with the other two in there. Wasn't terrible, but just nowhere near as good as the other two.

East:
Match 1: The Black Mages - Skies Above. I did enjoy how slow paced the CLANNAD's song, yet it was compared to the fast pace of Skyclad and This. The opening into the main made this the killer of this match.
Match 2: Minus the Bear - Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse. This was the best song, lyrics that don't make me feel like a perv. for watching a childish movie, and something with actual lyrics.
Match 3: Santana - Why don't you and I. I was never really into the OST of DNF, and the first song didn't click<As in it really didn't go well with what I'm used to listening to, and it really wasn't that good to me imo. Then again this is opinionated.>
Match 4: Lufia OST - The One Who Saves The World. This is just the cream of the crop of OST's right here. In the future I see this and Skies Above going at it. Both of the others just can't stand with this.
West:
Match 1: Tales of the Abyss - Meaning of Birth. The first ones opening was too long and it turned me off fast, the second one was nice and I really did like it, And in all honestly these two tied, I would have let Meaning of Birth win, but it was a loop tape ><. So I let my sister break the tie and she chose Meaning of Birth.
Match 2: Ronald Jenkees - Stay Crunchy. The dood's sound is original and I loved it, it was really nice and really good.Van Atta High is a boyband, me no likey. And I've been burnt on Al for years.
Match 3: Luka Megurine - 7 Days. Dead Mau sounded like crap you could auto tune, and the others video and song made no sense to me. Bad mix.
Match 4: Sanxion7 - EternuS. Single handedly the best Match out of all 8. These songs were all good. But heres how they ranked, put them in reverse and you got where my points were. Sanxion7 made a very nice sound and it was very energetic; I love Dog Fashion Disco, but they got outplayed by a tad on this. And the last one was too slow, but it warmed up on me.

I did, by what I mean is that it really didn't fit with what I'm used to liking and expecting. I'm actually going to listen to it again since you said that.

Match 1: The Black Mages - Skies Above. This band makes me happy in the pants. The vocals weren't that great (I really wasn't expecting them O_o), but it was awesome nonetheless. I kinda liked the Clannad song, but not as much, and the Skyclad song had a type of singing I don't particularly like.
Match 2: The Little Mermaid - Part of Your World. I had to give it to the Disney song here. I mean, come on. I was tempted to follow everyone else and vote for the song that gets epic points for its name. I mean what is this I don't even. And as for Life is a Construct, it scared me slightly. <_< Maybe had it not been up against these two songs, it could've gotten my vote, but not here. Sorry.
Match 3: American Hi-Fi - Flavor of the Weak. I do question why it's spelled "weak" and not "week", but meh. I liked the feel of this song and the singer significantly more than the Santana song, and the DFO song was just kinda meh in my opinion. Also, semi-related question: did anyone else hear "he's too stoned/to know" as "he's too stoned/nintendo"? Seriously, that's what it sounds like the singer is saying. :f6:
Match 4: Lufia OST - The One Who Saves The World. Very tough decision for me; the FFX song is also amazing. However, I played Lufia 2 ages ago and this song STILL gives me the tingles and also makes me slightly sad (this will make sense to you if you know when in the game it plays). As for Odd One, not really my thing.

Match 1: Black Tide - Warriors of Time. Tough choice here too. While I did like El Camino Real, I'm biased against all-wind ensembles (I play the cello <_<). And the Tales song was pretty good, but not as awesome as Warriors of Time.
Match 2: Weird Al Yankovic - Everything You Know is Wrong. This one was another case of "I'd vote for the others if they had been against other songs". I liked them all, but come on. I love the silly. I voted for Disney. >_>
Match 3: Florence & The Machine - Rabbit Heart. 7 Days was catchy and Strobe was cool, but something about Rabbit Heart was just awesome. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe it was the harp. I love harps.
Match 4: Sanxion7 - EternuS. There were a few parts of this song I didn't like, but fewer than in The Darkest Days. And the ending song was just kinda... boring. It probably would've been better if I actually knew the thing it's from and had context for it.
