MapleStory launching issue - Arrg - 2010-12-11
Logged into website, hit game start, hackshield loads then goes away, but then maplestory does nothing. It just sits there in the process list, no error accompanying it.
Playing on vista 64-bit, tried with and without XP compatibility, 'run as administrator' is enabled.

force end process and keep trying. I get this issue every time too. After 4-6 tries it usually loads up

I tried it about 20 times, to no avail, and then I got error code -21 finally, which is "failed to download game data", or something to that effect.

Try reinstalling if all else fails.

I'm having this same problem, except I'm starting from my desktop. I tried repatching via manual patch and it got stuck on base.wz. I just finished redowloading the client and it's STILL doing this. I just came back to MS two weeks ago after a few months of hiatus and I've been having problems every other day since then. Can someone please help before I smash my laptop to bits in frustration? btw, running Windows XP.

When this happened to me, it was because I was starting the game with mozilla firefox instead f IE8. Try IE8 if your not maybe?

Try using the GameLauncher instead of the website. The website is actually less reliable than the GameLauncher application. You should also disable the Run as Administrator Compatibility option as well.
I would run down this checklist as well:
1. Is my Firewall configured to allow MapleStory and any component of it access to the internet?
2. Do I have an Anti-Virus that is MapleStory friendly that isn't ending the process or causing issues with the game?
3. Do I have all updates and drivers from Microsoft and my hardware manufacturers for my system?

Well, I fixed it. In case other people have this problem and can't fix it maybe this will help...
What was happening:
-running Windows XP
-had previously closed from windowmode
-starting from Gamelauncher
-start button and hackshield came up
-Maplestory.exe hangs in Processes with nothing showing up in Applications or taskbar
-would usually hear Resistance intro audio but no login audio
I had reinstalled twice and Zach had suggested that it was "stuck" trying to load windowmode but I could not alt tab to it because there was nothing to alt tab to. Tried loading one last time, did not touch anything, heard Block Party intro audio and Alt + Enter-ed. Fullscreen visual came up.
Note to self: Log out/close in fullscreen.
