Donkey Kong Country Returns - Ryukiroku - 2010-11-23

Surprised to see there's no thread on it as it was just released.

My comments on the game are... very addicting, very hard at times, and oh god the nostalgia.

Anyone else have it yet?

Yessssssssssssssss. I love it. I got to the third area and decided to turn it off for the night. :3

I saw it emulated with dolphin and ran in 1080p. Looks brilliant!

Donkey Kong Country Returns - -Ghost- - 2010-11-23

It looks great!

Donkey Kong Country was one of my favorite series as a kid, so I'm glad they made a new one, and even used remixed tracks from back then. I wish I still had my Wii 8(

It definitely deserves to be in the "Country" family. The music, like Ghost mentioned, is mostly remixed tracks from the original; they sound perfect. There are a few "cons," if you will: if you don't like gimmicky Wii controls, you may be a little disappointed; you're required to waggle the Wiimote to ground-smash. If you're okay with a little waggle, you won't have a problem there. And there are no Kremlings. At all. No K. Rool. All brand new enemies, which I found a tiny bit disappointing. Oh well.

Oh and I died a LOT, even in the first level, when I was figuring out controls and things. Hahaha.

The game will indeed start kicking your ass heavily at world 4 or at least for me it did. Frikken cart rides in almost every level there with changing mechanics every turn of the way. The level design in this game is something else. Pretty hard platformer.

I'm a little bit disappointed in the fact that Kremlins are no where to be seen in the game as well as old school characters like Funky or Candy Kong. I guess Retro wanted to keep the number of original characters cut down for god knows why.

The music in the game is bloody fantastic as well as the artwork and graphics put into the game. I would always be like ooooh and ahhhh as I was going through it. I've decided to take a break from it for now. After dying the number of times I have... I think I need it.

Edit: O noez... Jon ninja'd me on a couple points. D:

Might be because of Rare.

I can't wait to play this game!

Nintendo still owns all the rights to the DK universe. They have used Kremlins and such in Mario Strikers and a few other games as well. I can only really speculate they just wanted to put a completely new feel to the game and hell, it works.

There are still some exceptions though, aren't there? I have to imagine that Rare owns at least some of the rights to the original DK64 characters, no?

Oh good so it isnt a let down like Sonic 4?!?!
Awesome!

Are there bunches of secrets and tedious tasks that make the game o so fun?

There seems to be a lot of secrets like in the original DKCs. Like, hidden bonus areas and all that good stuff.

There had better not be a bonus in a bonus >_> (original DKC) God that was utterly retarded.

Other than that, sounds like good times!

What? Like in Donkey Kong Country when you get 3 of the golden animal thingies, and you go collect little golden animal thingies, and if youre fast/lucky enough you can find the BIG golden animal thingie worth a bunch of points?

One of the levels in DKC (I think it was Treetop Town) has a bonus barrel inside of a bonus room. So you enter one bonus barrel, start the room, and then there was another one.

This game brings back memories. I think I've beat 1 on 101% completion at least 5, if not 10+ times. Never really got into 2 and 3. Will definitely be playing the pomegranate out of this game over Thanksgiving break if I can get my hands on the .iso.
