What's with all the hate against Obama? - Satellite - 2010-11-14
My Aunt who lives in Texas was visiting Finland 1 month back and I heard Obama is hated cause he promised change, which "didn't come".
I think it's ironic that the ones who hate Obama for not changing anything are now going to the side of the group(s) that were against the changes. Changes won't happen, if those republicans are against them.
So why hate?

The commander in chief is going to get blamed for everything whether things are going well, poorly, sideways, or backwards. If someone wanted to, they'd blame Obama for the way he holds his pencil every third Tuesday of the month. People switch sides for any and no reason. To expect order in this is nuts. I wouldn't take side switchers too seriously.

He hasn't really done much this presidency. At least, not much that's too notable. I don't really pay attention to politics or anything, but my dad and his girlfriend rant about how useless of a president Obama is. lol

Ignorance is bliss. It's easy to say "there was no change" as opposed to real research.
Obama actually provided a lot of good changes, from diplomacy to foreign policy to government transparency to helping the Federal Reserve with epic and SWEET legislation as the CARD Act of 2009. He carried the torch Bush left in terms of attempts towards diplomacy in the Middle East.
If he stopped being President and played Maplestory BigBang from now until 2012, he will have still done more for this country than the past 15 years' worth of presidents.
Clearly there are some things he could have done better. The fact he has dropped some campaign promises because they are unrealistic is something everyone hates: don't promise on what you know will likely not deliver. But that's fine, compared to the wealth of positive changes he's made.
The gamble he's made is that if the economy doesn't recover at a decent pace, it will appear to the public as if his support for stimulus plans and deficit spending were all for nothing. These are factors well beyond his (or any president's) control. He has 2 years until that comes. Then he's gotta pull back on the budget and aim for a surplus. This is actually on par with some of his campaign roadmaps when he discussed the economy. But if things turn worse, it will probably be the end for his presidency. I doubt it.
One of the well known economists and Nobel Prize winners Joseph Stiglitz predicted massive deflation, and a new global reserve system. Poppyc0ck. The Federal Reserve has kept inflation low. Keeping Bernanke as chief was among Obama's smartest choices. The man knows what he's doing.
In sum, the Obama hate comes from people who are stupid. When i talk to people about what Obama has done, the facts calm their brains down.
People like to think Bush was a bad president all around too. Not so. Bush supporting Sarbanes-Oxley was among the key moments of his presidency. In terms of foreign policy, the guy was an utter whack job though.

Obama is a good president with great ideas, but there's a bunch of pineapplewad republicans standing in his way at every major decision. And Americans are too stupid to see that it's not actually his fault that nothing is getting done so they've begun voting Republican despite of the fact that it's their fault, which is worse because they now have the power to further tear apart what he has already accomplished, like healthcare.

Okay...I believe what Obama meant by this was that anyone making less than the above wouldn't see a type of property, utilities etc etc increase. However, once something like smoking or tanning tax comes, it's automatically a "broken promise"? Makes no fucking sense to me.
A lot of people I know criticize Obama because they can't SEE the change. However, I have seen it. I'm a college student and he expanded Pell Grants! He has done so much more for the middle class than any presidency I have witnessed (can't say anything for Clinton since I was only...what....5 or 6?). And in case people haven't realized, WE'RE OUT OF THE RECESSION (though, I prefer to think of it as we're out of the economic downturn of the recession and we're heading towards profit)! How can one say Obama is a do-nothing president. I just don't see it.

If it weren't for Steven Colbert and John Stewart, I wouldn't know who Glenn Beck is. Like I said, I try my best to stay out of politics. All I know is what I hear from the news my dad watches and what he and his girlfriend talk about (and they're EXTREMELY biased).

He also had a couple of disasters on his hands. I'm sure in those situations, you wouldn't be any better. Sure, he wasn't the BEST president and he probably didn't pick the absolute best descisions ever, but for the incidents, he did pretty well.

Declaring two 1 trillion dollar wars and cutting taxes to pay for it is not "pretty well". He is not the worse president by any means, but describing him as "mediocre" is stretching it.
Does anyone remember what that ranking system thing is? After every president, they rank how well he did in various aspects against other presidents. My US History class touched on it when Obama got elected, but I cannot remember what it was called.

Most recent survey (conducted in 2010) puts Barack Obama at 15, and George W. Bush at 39 (out of 44, again, for those too lazy to click the link). As a comparison, they ranked FDR at 1st (love him).
