Castellan Toad Boss' physical hitbox. - Pauru - 2010-10-24
Earlier today I was fighting this boss on my corsair who (with the help of some gear) is able to tank its magic attacks. However when I was standing about half of cannon's range away from the toad, when his tongue lash attack hit me for physical damage and I died. I'm certain that this attack is magic, and that I normally would be able to take it without a problem. Apparently, though, when he uses that move, his physical hitbox extends outwards. (I might be wrong though, if someone can offer a better explanation, please do). What I want to know, is how far away I have to be to avoid this boss' physical damage.

All bosses that extend their range have this. (Halloween Toad, Cat, etc)
You have to stand about 25 pixels from the portal and it won't hit you with that attack.

Why don't you just stand at his back so his tongue attack won't hit you.

It can change direction, you have to take a touch hit first, etc.

Can it really change direction? I think it stays facing <-- like zakum and some NLs I know that fight it stay on -->
For a sair you'd either have to be in that safe spot or get over --> before toad summons

I'm sure there's more safe area than that. The tongue attack is actually magic, and I'm sure that I can survive it. However when it uses that attack, its physical touch hitbox also extends outwards - just not the whole length of that attack so if I'm close enough I take touch damage, but if I'm not I take magic damage. What I want to know is how far that hitbox extends, so I can find out how to position myself.

It can't change direction, but if I happen to find it already transformed, it's impossible to get over it without taking touch damage.
