Visitor event in a nutshell - larmie - 2010-09-23 JMS is getting the Visitor Event on the 29th (only a month after GMS) and I wanted to get the big picture. This isn't a guide or anything since the event ends for most of you but I'm not going to read through 60+ pages of posts :/ If someone can wrap the event up in
Visitor event in a nutshell - MetaSeraphim - 2010-09-23 Stage 1 - Do quests for Bing medals for a temp mount. Stage 2 - Do quests for OSSS medals for scrolling visitor armor. Stage 3 - Do PQ for Equips/Weapons. Stage 4 - Do reverse stage 1 quests for crystals to make your visitor suit permanent. Visitor event in a nutshell - SlayerZach - 2010-09-23 Stage One: Daily missions. Doing them 7 times earns you a 15-day mount, OS4 Shuttle, which is 180% Speed, 120% Jump, +10(or was it 20?) Weapon and Magic Defense. Stage Two: More daily missions. These ones give you the Bing-Alpha Suit, which can be upgraded into Visitor equips, based on the number of stats. Doing the missions gives you medals, purchased for each upgrade (50 per). Stage Three: Cube Party quest. Level 30+ version can be completed unlimited times, level 60+ 3 times a day, and 120+, once a day. The 3 bosses in the party quests drop visitor weapons, as well as accesories (pendants, rings, belts, earrings). You need a visitor suit (all 4 pieces) to do 60+ and 120+ versions. Stage Four: Very, very repeatable quests. Each time you complete the quest chain, you earn 7 Crystanol Molecules, which are used to extend the duration of the Bing/Visitor Suit pieces, or make them permanent. Visitor event in a nutshell - CarrionCrow - 2010-09-23 Also stage 4 should give you the quest for the Time traveller medal, lets hope they don't muck up the NPC like they did for us. Visitor event in a nutshell - Kaasoljoyyx - 2010-09-23 Storyline Stage 1: Build time machinie to go to the future Stage 2: get alien gear to fight off aliens that are appearing everywhere Stage 3: Destory the head aliens Stage 4: Realize that the aliens were maplers from the future and you need to stop the process of building the time machine in the first place Visitor event in a nutshell - Kabanaw - 2010-09-23 So, yeah, the entire Alien event was just a giant self contained paradox. Kinda lame. Visitor event in a nutshell - MetaSeraphim - 2010-09-23 Kabanaw Wrote:So, yeah, the entire Alien event was just a giant self contained paradox. Kinda lame. Visitor event in a nutshell - IsaacGS - 2010-09-23 Kabanaw Wrote:So, yeah, the entire Alien event was just a giant self contained paradox. Kinda lame. Not even. Even if you use time travel logic none of it makes any sense at all. 1. Visitors are seen in the present. 2. Dr. Bing develops the suit to fight the aliens. 3. The Bing suits are powered by crystanol which is obtained from the future. 4. Using the bing suits, the visitors are driven back. 5. The visitor mothership crashes and their leader is defeated. He's revealed to be Future Dr. Bing. 6. Future Dr. Bing says that because all the crystanol was used up, the future maple world became uninhabitable. This is where it stops making sense. If all the crystanol is used up, then we can't go into the future and take it, because it doesn't exist there anymore. If we can't go into the future and take it, then the bing suits can't work. If the bing suits can't work, this means the visitor suits can never come to be, and that the future must still have plenty of Crystanol since no one traveled forward to take it. If there's plenty of crystanol, there's no reason for anyone to go back in time and try to live out-of-phase in the present. If there's no reason for anyone to go back in time, then it's impossible for us to have seen the visitors in the present at the start of the event. Therefore, there's no reason for the bing suits to be developed in the first place, no NEED for crystanol in the present, and no reason to go take it forward in the future. There is no problem and everyone lives happily ever after. Future Doctor Bing also says, "When did the visitors ever attack you first!?" right before he sends you to the earliest point in the event's in-game timeline TO ATTACK FIRST. If he doesn't send you back in part 4 to kill yourself from part 1, then there would be no reason to assume the visitors were aggressive and no need for such a ridiculous plan to fight them off in the first place. So not only does the causality of events not line up under any sort of logic, but the "resolution" actually ends up ruining what little sense there was to be had out of it. from a storyline perspective, event is a total failure. As a game mechanics experiment, i'd say it was wildly successful. IMO it was also a failure from a gameplay perspective but that's more personal opinion. Visitor event in a nutshell - Takebacker - 2010-09-23 1) Crap mount. 2) Crap bing equipment. 3) Crappy weapons with a crappy chance at getting godly weapons through an insanely hard PQ. 4) Crappy repeatable quests to make your crappy equipment permanent and a crappy medal. Visitor event in a nutshell - MetaSeraphim - 2010-09-23 IsaacGS Wrote:6. Future Dr. Bing says that because all the crystanol was used up, the future maple world became uninhabitable. Didn't Future Doctor Bing say he made the visitor suits because future maple world was uninhabitable and they were powered by the Crystanol? But they stopped working because so many people took from the Crystanol but didn't use all of it up? Visitor event in a nutshell - Kabanaw - 2010-09-23 IsaacGS Wrote:Not even. Even if you use time travel logic none of it makes any sense at all. I bet the reason why the bing suits dissapear is because the time paradox takes them away. Maybe Crystanol is paradox proof or something, like that paradox generator in Doctor Who. There was no explicit reference to a paradox machine or anything, though, so I don't think that's an assumption we can make. It would clear up a lot... Also I'm working off the assumption that the suits were only invented once, not twice which seems to be how some other people are looking at it. Problem is Dr. Bing is saying they're running out of crystanol and then he's giving it away like it's candy on halloween for completing his quests. Visitor event in a nutshell - Alloy - 2010-09-23 IsaacGS Wrote:Not even. Even if you use time travel logic none of it makes any sense at all. Actually, they got back in time AFTER the events from stage 2. I mean, we took the crystanol in the future, and in a further future, it runs out. Because we took it. And it's the same crystanol that will get to be in the future. That's what I call "paradox matter". The very fact that it was stealed is the reason of its existance. Stopping going back should fix all the problem. Then... about MSPaint Adventures' way to see this... Well, I'd look these pages. No worries if you get lost, it's hard to follow, just consider that the robot can travel in time, and modifying the past creates the alpha timeline to vanish. Just put it in this place, until it talks about weird stuff again. Following that logic, there'd be a point where a timeline, after having enough present people battling the stuff would WIN, and become not an alpha timeline, but the MAIN one. It's all a paradox after another, and depending on how it's considered, it can make sense or not. Just have a particular set of rules to follow, and never violate them. IsaacGS Wrote:Yeah i'm using Doctor Who time travel logic to try to figure it out, lol. "timey wimey" and all that. There was no explicit reference to a paradox machine or anything, though, so I don't think that's an assumption we can make. It would clear up a lot... AH! But it's because it WAS being given away... in his past. After we got it from the Henesys place. When it ran out later, is when he says that, they get back to the past later in the timeline. Around 50 years from the present, and that's why Bing is old. Visitor event in a nutshell - Random_Overlord - 2010-09-23 IsaacGS Wrote:Not even. Even if you use time travel logic none of it makes any sense at all. Makes sense... But as the NPC said, they were already there but invisible. If they were invisible, that means their power source, the crystanol depleted. Which means that they were able to be seen by the present-past inhabitants. The present inhabitants reacted upon this, went to the future to steal the crystanol and then they returned to build the bing suits, which were later developed into the visitor suits. Upon progression of the plot, the future bing then claimed that because of so many people taking crystanol, their power source was being taking bit by bit and the world would be uninabitable, which is the soul reason why they made the visitor suits in the first place since thier bodies were to frail to live in the future as it was. So to prevent the crystanol from being depleted, the future bing sends you to the past in stage 1 reversed to destroy all the tools that were used to make the time machine. Since the time machine wasn't made, that means that no one would go to the future to take more crystanol. But heres the thing really, the Future inhabitants only appeared because of their powersource being depleted. This means that somewhere along the line all the crystanol ran out before anyone went to the future to take it. So in theory this is my guess is that there really was no future, there was no time machine. The future was ACTUALY a pocket in time or a time crossroad of sorts in time that was exploited by both sides to create havoc. When the crossroad intersected, which was when the crystanol ran out and when the visitors appeared, that is when pomegranate hit the fan and when stage 2 ~ 3 occured. In the end, you were sent minus 1 day before the event occured when Dr.Bind was still in omega and he wouldn't remember you since you never met him yet. Thus the world is saved and the crossroad of time was destroyed along with the memory of the visitor's exsistance as they are invisible since their crystanol never ran out. Which leads me to a really stupid cliffhanger if you ask me... As they might appear again someday due to their power source being stolen again by another figure. Visitor event in a nutshell - Corn - 2010-09-23 Time travel never makes sense anyways, as Maplers could, I dunno, just kill the Black Magician RIGHT NOW (time travel to the past to kill the baby. If time traveling to the past is not possible, then just time travel to the future to get that technology. They'll eventually have the technology, as you can already time travel from the future to the present, which is traveling back in time). Actually, I came to the conclusion that reverse/timeless weapons follow that logic. REVERSE weapon. You forge it, and then, you level it up. Now, REVERSE that... You have a perfectly good weapon, that, as you use it, it gets weaker and weaker, until it breaks... However, that weapon never had a "creation" date in the future, technically. TIMELESS. A pocket in time is basicly a small universe in which exsists between the past and the present or future which is like a time within a time. Which is like saying "It exsists but it only exsists 10 seconds before the current time." So it's like a frozen timeline. Which basicly describes the scenario of "We were already here, but you could not see us." Which also leads me to believe the future was actualy the present, but in a frozen state in which was not inhabitable. Or to put it in plain english. Future bing moved a part of the future into the past but made it invisible in a pocket in time. Visitor event in a nutshell - Alloy - 2010-09-23 Random_Overlord Wrote:It really depends to. Lets say if you make a pocket in time. That's not it. Put forself in this case. You go, and proceed to hit a button. That button fills the room with a poison FAST. You travel back in time to prevent yourself from ever pushing that button. The result is that you get to the point where you were about to push it, and you make yourself from pushing it. Now there's two yous, also. What happened? Well, the MAIN timeline would be the one where you are about to push a button, and SUDDENLY, your future self tells you not to. That future self comes from that pocket timeline, that goes from the moment he would have appeared, but didn't yet, because he's the one going back, to the moment he actually goes back, where the timeline ceases to exist. This fraction from one moment to the other can take a year if it's needed, not like 10 seconds. |
