I don't have the picture because it was a photo a group of students (from my school) on an exchange trip took, but it went something like this.

A sign on the wall in a toilet in a University in China.

”请小心地滑“

English translation right below the Chinese text read:

"Please be careful land slide."



(The original text means "Please be careful; floor is slippery.")

Not so much of a grammatical error as it is a translation error...

p.s. On a side note, the title of this thread should be "I was always curious as to how wrong grammar can change the meaning of text". "Erroneous" would be a better word than "wrong", but whatever. No offence intended; try taking this chance to improve your English.

Erroneous is an adjective. It doesn't work. He's looking for a noun.

Late to the game but it's a mistranslation, not a grammar issue: "This toilet flushes automatically after you leave; no need to flush."

We all know it's a mistranslation, which is what all of those Engrish sites and stuff are about. We're laughing about what the English means, as the way the grammar is structured there, it completely changes the meaning of what it should be.

Also, the English is supposed to be what it says up top, which is "This toilet has a fully automatic system."

I thought the thread title was misleading ._. If I'm taking it one step further: a direct translation isn't always the best. Ask this lady
