[MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - scopelenz - 2008-09-01 Heh, I am typing this off my lappy, so pardon the messiness. Anyway, I have finally taken my time off to walk (and quest) through the entire Malaysia maps. For the Global players, here's a review by me - Scopelenz - on what the Malaysia maps have to offer (and of course, clear some misconceptions on the new places) First, looking at Mobs which Malaysia holds, I must say that Nexon designed Malaysia with one objective in mind - creating the most conducive training place for the mid levels. Indeed, this objective has been met with the attractive HP-EXP Ratios and good spawn rates. Here on, I will look at several mobs in detail and cite something interesting (or not) about it. 1. Emo Slime Nexon tried to play with the word 'emo' but failed horribly. The reason for its name is 'cos it's playing a Malaysian traditional musical instrument - the Rabab - which is also its ETC drop. 2. Dark Fission The DF is possibly Nexon's way at injecting global references into MSEA. It is actually a mockup of Elvis Presley, and drops a large yellow wig as its ETC. If you have not realised, it wears the wig on its head... 3. Oly Oly Funny enough, this mob is supposedly holding onto SOMEBODY'S TIRE and gives it up once it's defeated. 4. Rodeo Rodeo has a UBER RIDICULOUS magic attack that KBs you FAR (and I MEANT IT). The purple thing on the black blob is actually its master (hmmm isn't this a little TOO deja vu for Nexon's own good?) ADD: Rodeo is actually an excellent training mob for I/L Mages >65 due to its weakness towards ICE. However, the HIGH KB Magic Attack is a boon. 5. Charmer As its name implies, the mob tries to charm you by playing a funny tune from this flute. The snake in the basket is actually the thing that attacks you. o_O 6. Yabber Doo If you are a mage, then please be very careful 'cos it's WA is.. OUCH. It is also capable of making weird noises during its attacks. And yes, a Scooby Doo reference here. Beyond that, Malaysia has a relatively SCREWED map structure. BOAT QUAY is directly connected to TREND ZONE with a PORTAL. This makes the link between SG and MY seem VERY CHEAP. =| The Kampung Village between Hibiscus Path and Muddy Banks act as a respite point before players move on to something more dangerous. Strange enough, the ONLY NPC at the village that SELLS something is a Potion NPC who sells Singapore Potions (aka Chili Crab, Durian and all the whatnot). Nexon ridiculously tries to stop lower level players from visiting Hibiscus Road 3 (and the future Theme Parks) by placing the Yabber Doo (level 75) in Hibiscus Road 2 and Rodeos (level 65) in Hibiscus Road 3. Why is a HIGHER LEVEL MOB coming before a LOWER LEVEL MOB?! o_O Verdict: Nothing interesting and epic IMO. It's just ANOTHER training area with new mobs and new quests. Nothing cool, nothing exciting. And Nexon is promoting botting in Malaysia. Mobs tend to come in swarms of 3 to 4 at ONE SPOT, and it's really too easy for a player with an AOE to start botting... =S If you are a Global player, then be glad that you have CWK, cos MY is nothing compared to the fun and excitement that CWK offers... =S [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - MiSSHaku - 2008-09-01 Malaysia doesn't look too bad. x] Although, I thought MapleSEA was run by AsiaSoft, not NEXON.
[MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - BladeHavoc - 2008-09-01 I read somewhere that the different distributors send their concept designs to the Korean Nexon branch where they get "Maple-ized" and turned into workable MS content and sent back to the distributors. Not sure about the source though. Nexon undoubtedly controls the artwork. Why is a HIGHER LEVEL MOB coming before a LOWER LEVEL MOB?! o_O Why do werewolves/lycans/pangs come before zombies? Why do fire boards/crokos/golems come before green mushrooms going to Sleepy? Why do ribbon pigs come before orange shrooms going from Hen->Ellinia? That's not that big of a deal, it's just a better idea for gameplay and gameflow, I'd assume. And that seems like your biggest point by the OMGBOLD [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - antikel - 2008-09-01 It appears that Nexon/Asiasoft decided to fuse Singapore and Malaysia into one, known as SEA. Even the cash shop coupons are named SEA hairstyle/eye lens/etc coupons, which can be used in either CBD or Trend Zone Metropolis. In addition, Singapore still holds better training maps in terms of exp. BUT, the Malaysia maps are proven to be one of the best farming maps in MSEA. Take for example, the Rodeo (Hippo-like blob), that drops white PILLS as if it's an etc drop. And it is interesting that most of the Malaysia monsters drop pills instead of normal pots. I've even gotten painkillers (those from OMG sector) from the Rodeos. In fact, I've gotten about 4 equips from just EXPLORING the maps. (<3 Red whip) So I believe Nexon/Asiasoft is trying to strike a balance between the two exclusive areas in SEA, one being exp-oriented, while the other, being meso-oriented. [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - Meow4Eva - 2008-09-01 They keep going with the same monster style, blobie o-o [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - godofturtles - 2008-09-01 Nothing beats bigfoot and the soon to be unnerfed leprechauns coming for crimsonwood mountains But this area looks at least a bit interesting to check out.

But it's only a difference of ONE MAP? Isn't that a little too ridiculous? It appears as though Nexon misplaced mobs instead of intentionally putting them that way? Either way, I must definitely agree with kel on the balance which struck the 2 areas and how they seem to link to one another. However, the connection between Boat Quay and Trend Zone is weak, and I believe, should be further expanded to tap on the differences between the 2 areas. Nonetheless, I think it was a job well done on Nexon's part to inject variety into SEA, though it's not much of an original design... IIRC, the Internet Cafe weapons are similar to this (private servers had a glitch where level 50 pole arms were dropping with 5 str but were untradeable as opposed to the one that was supposed to drop). EDIT: Ew. They totally ripped off the Krakian Jungle going by that screenie.
[MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - Uncouthist - 2008-09-01 Seriously, the Malaysia maps isnt fully completed or that nice in cwk but I GOT MY DEAR level 70 red Hinkel wa 83 in Yabber Doo! And Krakian jungle was ripped off by Shanghai [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - randompeep - 2008-09-01 Actually, Krakian Jungle ripped off Shanghai. >.> But still, it looks nice, but nothing special. They even ripped off the Cody's Theme Park idea! (is that a Haunted House in the park?!) [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - Thomas - 2008-09-01 Anything nice from the Quests (reward/information)? you don't seem too excited about the new area... I wonder if there will be more of those low level good base stats new untradable weapons... seems rather interesting. They originated in JMS, it was a series of event quests that gave you special untradeable 30 day expiry items, with lower level requirements and higher attack. I guess it was to promote trying new characters. We'll have to wait for our second Crimsonwood part to judge if that's valid or not. scopelenz Wrote:Hmm.. yes I assume you are right on that. But it's only a difference of ONE MAP? XD 0mgP1r4tes Wrote:Apparently monsters drop weapons with a lower level req but higher base wep attkProbably a glitch. I can't imagine this was done intentionally. It's probably an ID number mix up just like Mo's All-cures in Crimsonwood. randompeep Wrote:Actually, Krakian Jungle ripped off Shanghai. >.>It's not really a ripoff in either case, they just use the same floor tiles. It actually makes sense for two jungle areas (Krakian and these Malaysia maps) to share similarities in appearance. Shanghai's supposed to be like farmland, but I never really got that vibe off the floor tiles (not to say they look out of place in Shanghai, it just doesn't have the grassy-ness usually associated with a farm. Then again it's China after all...) [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - randompeep - 2008-09-01 IsaacGS Wrote:Is the portal between them at least on a train or something? XD No. You enter a portal on a Boat Quay boat, then you end up in the middle of Trend Zone, no water in sight. ![]() I think the pics were on another Malaysia thread. Edit: here's the link. It's the third or fourth post down. http://www.southperry.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3101&highlight=Malaysia [MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - scopelenz - 2008-09-01 IsaacGS Wrote:Probably a glitch. I can't imagine this was done intentionally. It's probably an ID number mix up just like Mo's All-cures in Crimsonwood. Guess not, more than one type of such weapon are dropped in MY. I don't think this was accidentally placed... But then again, MY has a few interesting locations for training - mainly HR1 and HR3. Rodeo drops White Pills and Pain Relievers once every 1-2 kill/s (o_O) and the Charmers spawn fast enough for good experience. **** The quests in MY are horrendous. They act as 'train-while-you-quest' chores which are so horribly designed that it takes more than a few hours to complete them. So far, the quests which I have done requires me to kill 100 of the monster and collect another 100 of its ETC drop. However, in MY, majority of the mobs give up their ETC only - on average - once per 4-5 kills. So... do the math. Once you complete the first part, you will be asked to collect more of it - up to 300 of the same drop.. -.-" Quests rewards are just equally horrible - set of EXP, FAME and MESOS which aren't as appealling as quest exclusive weapons/items and/or scrolls or other equipment. The ONLY quest - so far - that gave me a scroll was one which involved collecting 200 Lucky Bus Tickets (from Yabber Doo) and the reward was a 30% equipment scroll... o_O Still, I like how Nexon tried to link the different World Tour areas together by injecting quests that requires you to move from one WT place to another.
[MSEA] Scopelenz's Review of MALAYSIA - randompeep - 2008-09-01 ^ At least the monsters spawn well. Some of the CWK monsters don't spawn well, and the badge drop rate isn't that good. (Was it 4 in 30 minutes?)
