Ping request time-out. - Kalovale - 2010-08-27

Simple question, how do I ping Maple's game server?
I learned from using Proxifier that the game server's IP address is 63.251.217.42, if it matters.

Currently leaving a loop on pinging, it just keeps timing out though.

I have tried various servers, and so far only google.com, facebook.com respond properly. Oh, SP also does.

Bonus: yahoo.com works, hotmail.com does not. What is this I don't even..

It's easy for a server to block ICMP echo requests. Usually this is done to prevent a smurf attack (aka ping flooding). Also, pinging is used by malicious hackers looking for networks. Usually after a successful echo request they will perform a port scan to see insecure ports and attempt to break the system. If a ping doesn't work, I wouldn't let it concern you too much.

That's actually just a single channel pair (Windia 5 & 6 if I'm not mistaken).
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

I wanted to have an estimation for my latency, though I retried for http://www.nexon.net and the result should be, presumably, identical to what I'm trying for. I'm just under the impression that server loads for the web and the game are somewhat different and relevant.
The result is to be compared with this:

http://www.nexon.net gave a result of 609ms on average. Explains the feel of "lagginess" I've been getting, I suppose.

I can't ping Nexon.net either, it's not surprising that sites block you from doing so (last time I checked, Google blocks Python from accessing their servers D=).
