Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - ProSoccerDk - 2010-08-17 Hey, I need some step by step instructions on how to boot windows xp because I have windows 7 and I am having problems right now. I know how to partition. The problem comes from after such as not knowing where to get a good and proper windows xp download as well as burning it and rebooting so it works. I tried using nero 10 and burned a disk and when i restarted the computer and ran the disk, the blue screen where it says it'll shut down because of possible damage to computer came up and I could not proceed. I did some research on google and found out that many people had the blue screen issue when they try to install windows xp. http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-118712-blue-screen-while-trying-to-install-xp according to this, it looks like I have to go to BIOS and change the SATA mode from ACHI? to something called IDE. Apparently all I have to do is go into BIOS and there will be a setting and can be easily changed but when I went in there, I couldn't find anything about it. I researched and it looked like other people had the same problem but I couldn't find a solution to it haha Any help would be great! thanks Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - Kaasoljoyyx - 2010-08-18 I think I read about that problem when I was doing my research. You gotta slipstream something and have all the drivers for your computer/xp model. Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - Resonance - 2010-08-18 Which BIOS is on your computer (PhoenixBIOS, H20, etc)? If your computer is relatively new, your hard drive will likely be in AHCI mode. XP doesn't support this and will crash when you try to use it. It should be in your BIOS somewhere under some setting along the lines of HDD Mode. Change it from AHCI to IDE or Compatibility. Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - loANGELol - 2010-08-18 It might help if you use Windows XP SP3 to do the installation. Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - TKWizard - 2010-08-18 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html I'm assuming you have Win 7 installed first, so use that part. Also, download the latest BETA of EasyBCD and not the non-beta one. The beta one contains a feature that automatically creates a dual boot setup for you. Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - Resonance - 2010-08-19 Aptio BIOS' don't have Advanced options it seems. If there is any way to unlock them without having to edit and re-flash your BIOS (assuming they're hidden to begin with), that'd be the best thing to do. I can't seem to find anything though. Instead of changing hard drive modes, you'll have to instead slipstream SATA drivers into your WinXP Install CD (as Kaalsojoyxx was saying). You're pretty much copying driver files into the CD (by configuring and burning a new CD). When the new CD boots it should have the proper drivers for your HDD type and should no longer crash. A guide to slipstreaming SATA drivers into the CD can be found here. Note that the drivers vary by manufacturer and by model, so you'll need to download them from your manufacturer (I'm assuming you're on a VAIO, so go to Sony). If your CD is XP, XP SP1, or XP SP2, it may also be a good idea to slipstream newer service packs into the CD while you're at it. A guide to doing that can be found here. Also, as TKWizard said, you will want to have your network drivers for XP (to be able to go online and get the rest of your drivers in case the XP CD doesn't have them) and have EasyBCD before performing the procedure. XP will overwrite the Windows 7 boot menu and you will only have access to Windows XP until you fix it with EasyBCD or the Windows 7 repair/install DVD. You will be able to access the files on your Windows 7 partition while in XP so you don't need to store the files on an external source. I tried the slipstreaming the SATA drive with the guide you sent me. After multiple attempts, I have yet to get past the blue screen of death. I am almost certain I did every step correct. I'm supposed to already have Windows XP SP3 on the disk when I run the program correct? Then after making a bootable version, I would RE-burn it onto the disk then try to restart the comp and run it. Still leads to a blue screen and I have absolutely no clue why. Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - Resonance - 2010-08-19 This says you have to slipstream the floppy utilities into the CD for use (unless you have an external floppy drive for some reason, in which you wouldn't need to slipstream it into the CD at all). This supposedly is a workaround for the BIOS/floppy/slipstream fixes. I can't confirm that either work, but they may be worth a shot. Sony really decided to screw everyone over by putting AMI Aptio BIOS' into their boards. Your BIOS does have a Virtualization option so you could create a virtual XP machine within 7, but that's no good for games. I tried the slipstream floppy utlity but didn't seem towkr... and I was looking at the second link and I don't really get what they mean by run it with a -a switch: iata76_enu.exe -a. At this point I can only say that I'm probably doing all of these wrong or there's just no solution to the new Sony Vaio. Maybe I should buy a windows xp disc and do it instead of using Windows Xp SP3 even though it's supposed to work... Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - TKWizard - 2010-08-19 If you're slipstreaming, use nLite http://www.nliteos.com/ And follow this (Just replace said AHCI drivers with yours) http://lifehacker.com/386526/slipstream-service-pack-3-into-your-windows-xp-installation-cd Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - Resonance - 2010-08-20 ProSoccerDk Wrote:At this point I can only say that I'm probably doing all of these wrong or there's just no solution to the new Sony Vaio. The only way that I see to do it at this point is to find a way to flash your BIOS to change HDD modes, but I haven't found a single success story online. See if Sony Support has a solution? Otherwise your only option would be to live with Windows 7 or buy a new computer =/ . There's no way I can stay with Windows 7 because I can't do anything with it... I disconnect at every boss run and the disconnection randomly is annoying as well. If i decide to downgrade from Widnows 7 to Windows XP instead of dual booting, would that give me a better chance of getting things to work? Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - TKWizard - 2010-08-21 Did you try making a XP slipstream disc using nLite? I would help you but its not easy to do Windows installations remotely x.x Dual booting windows xp with windows 7 - ProSoccerDk - 2010-08-22 Yes I have tried that. Mhm I don't know what else to do. Hard to play maple with all the dcing. |
