Subs v. Dubs: Welcome to The NHK - Sn1perJohnE - 2010-08-07 Now that I have Ye Olde Netflix, I plan to compare the subs and the dubs of, at the minimum, Welcome to The NHK. So, first 4 episodes are down, and im kinda meh atm. The guy doing Satou's voice is kinda gruff at times, but there are points where it really fits with the character. Its really funny when an american voice starts sing the PuriPuri song. The girl playing Misaki fits in more better than Satous voicer, but falls somewhat monotonous in the first few episodes. She actually isnt present too much in these parts, so my opinion on this is sure to change. The guy playing Yamazaki actually fits in very well, though I was kind of expecting something along the lines of Uryu when I first imagined an english voice for him. Hitomi (Satou's senpai) also seemed to fit rather well, but there is also limited interaction with her until the 5th+ episodes. So far, I would call the dubs and the subs about even. With the dub, you kind of get some of the "freaked out" sense of mind that Satou has in the first parts of the first episode, but it can be rough starting with the gruff sound of the guys voice. One thing I think the subs will always have over dubs in most animes is the cute factor the girls voices will have. Next disc will take about 2 days. Subs v. Spidey used this example a while ago in a subs vs. dubs argument to bring up how bad voice acting can destroy the mood of a scene. EDIT: Alright, I just popped in my DVD to check out the scene where Satou sang along with "Fushigi Purupuru Pururin Rin!". I AM THE MAGICAL GIRL OF DREAMS AND HOPES LA-LA LA-LA-LA!~ Not only the fact that he's singing in English against the Japanese BGM for that scene pretty funny, Funimation also takes the liberty of providing us the subs for the real song; and it looks quite funny compared to what Satou's singing. It's also pretty bad that they don't pronounce the main character's name very well. It's not hard to pronounce his name in a way that it sounds like you're trying to force the Japanese sounds while using English. "Sa" as in "sakura", and "tō" as in "toe". Subs v. His voice for the dub work is just way off. Subs v. Dubs: Welcome to The NHK - AAR - 2010-08-14 I am incapable of watching dubbed anime. It's just so cheesy and it feels like the voice actors are mocking me for watching. The only thing I can tolerate it on is Dragon Ball, but that's because the cheesy dubs make it that much more AWESOME. In the lamest way possible. Subs v. It depends on the mindset you allow yourself to have when watching. Comparing it to the origanal sound source? yeah, your gonna feel bad from it, but taken at face value without comparison, it doesnt hurt much, except when its just plain bad :c\. ~reserving for episodes 5-8, comments tonight or tomorrow~ Subs v. Dubs: Welcome to The NHK - Sn1perJohnE - 2010-08-15 Im gonna have to end this for 2 reasons. 1, Netflix took a long time to ship to my house (total of 2 dvds within the 2 week trial) and 2, because the second NHK disc was damaged beyond playability... |
