Sometimes, when you get dispelled and someone else in your party MWs you while you're casting another skill, there's this weird glitch that'll show you having a weapon on only when you're attacking, while you won't have a weapon on when you standing or walking, so your weapon will be flashing on and off while you attack. Probably not what happened here though o_o

I think it applies for all equipments, or at least I've seen it happen to hats as well, and I'm sure I didn't have MW in CPQ.
