Creative Way to Keep Sister off of my Computer - Hazzy - 2010-06-24

She pineappleed hers up with a virus, so she's now sneaking on mine to check her e-mail. GOD FORBID SHE GO EVEN A DAY WITHOUT CHECKING IT.

I need creative ways to keep her off. Only two I go so far:

Put password on computer, "switch users" when I get off for more than a minute
Relearn Dvorak so she can't type anything

Neither of them are really creative. I use the same email providers, so I can't block the sites. (Comcast and gmail)

Dude, I'm on the exact same boat. My sister is a careless spoiled brat and broke two laptops. She screwed up the first one with a virus, then she cracked the screen on another. She used her iPod for internets for a while, until she left it out in the rain and it stopped working.

I'm almost infurirated by how careless she is. If I broke my iPod, or a laptop, OR TWO GODDAMN LAPTOPS, I'd not only be extremely upset with myself and cry myself to sleep each night for breaking over $1500 in technology that I use daily, but my daddy would have belted me back when I was her age. God.

Anyway, yeah. If I know I'll be away from the computer for more than 10 or 15 minutes, I lock it. My sister always whines at me for not letting her on the computer. She even goes as far as to tell me "It's not fair" that I don't let her use it. Maybe if she didn't go out of her way to ruin all of her own stuff, she'd be able to talk to her fucking faggot friends on Facebook. I grin to myself when I hear her whine. She's always whining. Sometimes when she asks to get online, I put on my cool face and open up Facebook right in front of her. It makes my day, and ruins hers. And that makes me happy. I rarely disobey my dad, but when he says "Greg, let your sister on the computer", I just say "Nope" with the straigtest face possible and walk away. No goddamn mercy for SPOILED BITCHES

The way I kept my brother off the computer was make every folder hidden and hide the browser shortcuts. He wasn't really computer savvy so this worked for a while, until he stopped and researched on how to look things up.

Ah, I was going to say this. I don't have any siblings, but I've done it just for the privacy. Depending on how active and desperate your sister is, you may have to set the screensaver to come on as early as 3 minutes.

Is there a way (or a program) that can password protect specific programs, so that you have to enter in a password just to start it up? Instead of having to do the screensaver thing (which could get annoying), you could password protect IE and your other browsers so that you only have to close your browser while you're away from your computer, assuming this exists at all.

You can just create a short cut to the screen saver and put it in the quick lunch bar or assign it hotkeys so you activate it whenever you step away, just like the Windows-L locking key.

I was wondering about this myself. IE is disabled, so I would only have to PW Firefox and Chrome. I'm sure there's an addon for Fox, but I'm unsure of Chrome.

This is perfect. My computer BSODs enough that this is a valid screen. Can you set a screensaver to only unlock with a certain key?

ive never heard of Window+L, all i know is i have a function key and i press that and F1. locks the screen and turns the screen off entirely.
ive managed to keep my mother from stealing my laptop to use it (because she's too lazy to use the real computer downstairs) whenever i go into the bathroom.

if she isnt tech savvy you can try frustrating her by rotating the screen to an angle, disabling the mouse, and turning sticky keys on, something just came to mind. 'course im no better a computer whiz than a generic joe smith from the 90's.
