Trying a method to stop the DFO 7z-ing. Need someone to check how safe this is - IllegallySane - 2010-05-09 Simply put, I followed the steps that this guys made in DFOSource about how to make 7z appear less often. I've been having it happen ridiculously often whenever I AFK, and I'm losing my patience in making my computer stay up using electricity for nothing. This is where I found the solution: http://www.dfosource.com/forum/general-discussion/12515-i-have-found-7z-exe-fix-vista-home.html tl;dr version is: First make a regostry file in this form: "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations] "LowRiskFileTypes"=".exe" " Then do the following: 1. Type in Command Prompt "bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON" 2. Reboot computer 3. Profit Supposedly this leaves open some obvious security holes in Vista. I wonder how bad is it, or what can happen. If it's nothing too big, what precautions should I take to avoid borking up my computer? Is this a safe method to fix the 7z problem at least until I get a new computer? *Frick. My computer is acting up again. Still can't keep a DFO shop open. I have no idea why. I give up. **Mods, I give permission to lock this thread if you think it's not helpful, or no one can offer advice on the problem. |
