Pushing aside the ridiculousness of a GAY DOG, the place is a restaurant. I understand the need for blind people to have their guide dogs, and that discrimination is bad, but if I saw a dog in a restaurant I would leave.

Awesome point. If the restaurant had a porch/outside area, they should have had them sit out there. Even if its a guide dog, its a freaking place where people are going to eat. A dog being there is just kinda nasty.

It's not like the dog is going to jump into your table, rub his butt on your dish, and get back to his owner, laughing at you Duck Hunt style. I've had more than one meal with my GF's dog near, and it's really far from disgusting. The guide dog would leave you totally alone, and this one is always begging for food. In fact, this lil' guy makes it a bit more enjoyable.
Guide dogs are specifically trained to be a blind person's partner, and as such, they get a different treatment. It's like on public transport, or other places where the guy can't see, and unluckily, that's everywhere. Denying the blind guy to eat in a place because he's gay is ridiculous. BECAUSE HIS DOG IS GAY is just mocking him.

Just wanted to point out I agree with Rick. I don't see how the damages amount to anything requiring monetary compensation. However, I agree with Alloy in disagreeing with Sarah. Of all times to allow dogs in restaurants, the case should be made to allow guide dogs. It's their job, and the analogies used by Alloy to support this stance help make that notion more clear.
That being said, I also wanted to highlight the scientific truth behind Sarah's comment: while homosexuality occurs in many animal species, it never occurs in dogs. In other words, the restaurant was wrong from a black-and-white standpoint before even getting into a moral debate.

Sometimes internets people are ridiculous. Ceddy linked two different publications of the story in his OP, both of which include enough information for the startling human phenomenon known as inference. They didn't have to explicitly say the blind man was denied for having an alleged "gay" dog, but because the statement from the restaurant's defense in the hearing was

It can be inferred that the reason given to the public for the barring of the blind man from eating at the establishment was because of a misunderstanding of the sexual orientation of the canine.
I'm not attacking you specifically, Rick, but it just annoys me how presumptuous people try to be on the internet in recent times. It's appropriate to use logical "What If" statements when the information provided is enigmatic and could also feasibly support an alternative theory. However, there are a large number of cases in which adequate information is provided to strongly support one conclusion, yet people still try and pull the "what if" card, blaming the person using basic 8th grade cognitive science for presuming something that every shred of information provided leads to. Hell, had Rick even read the articles he wouldn't have come up with his alternate theory, as they clearly state that not only did the restaurant have an outdoor sign welcoming guide dogs, but when intitially refused entry the blind man produced documentation proving his dog was a registered seeing-eye dog.

While I agree with the basic fact that the argument at hand was presented in a herpa derpa gay rights fashion, I hate to admit it, but it's actually reasonable in this instance. Look at the title of both published articles on the story. Then look again at the comment provided for justifciation of the misunderstanding by the defense. Sure, they ultimately denied the dog because they thought it wasn't a guide dog (even when given documentation), but the reason they gave was BECAUSE they thought it was "gay." Not "grey," "guido," or whatever other kind of crazy misconstructions one can take from "guide." "Gay." I'd say its the minor issue as a whole, but considering the restaurant was given documentation, still denied the dog, and justified the denial based on a sexual orientation that doesn't even exist in the species in the first place, it's a legitimate concern in this case.

Not at all Rick. I don't feel threatened in any way. I'm just highlighting what was said. You're only saying the dog was denied from the restaurant, when there was a questionable reason given by the defense. While it appears I have bias due to my sexual orientation, that's honestly not the case here. I'm objectively pointing out what was said in the articles, and the fact that the logic for why the dog was barred doesn't match the premise. I'll leave that to Paul, though, since he does really good "Premise, Therefore" logic breakdowns. Essentially all I'm saying is when you look at the situation through that breakdown of logic, you see what is wrong in the first place, which is not using "gay" as an excuse but using an illogical excuse in general.

I don't have a problem with guide-dogs as long as they do not bark at everything that moves. My friend owns a Cafe, and he serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner appetizers there. He's allowed to have a dog there because:
a) He's using it as a guide-dog for the blind
b) He has trained it to guide as well as to not bark at everything
c) The dog is extremely quiet and friendly
Now, however, if the dog was shedding, or if it's running all over the place and barking at everything, yes, that would become a nuisance. I don't mind guide-dogs, but I detest owners that do not train their dog properly.
