Typhon Training - Mark - 2008-08-18 ![]() Typhon Level: 100 HP: 56000 MP: 230 EXP: 3200 Physical Attack: 270 Physical Defense: 500 Magic Attack: 400 Magic Defense: 450 Avoid: 40 Elements: immune to ice, immune to poison So, I was up by the Typhon maps today so I could finish the Mark of Heroism quest, and I found that Typhons are actually very good EXP. I wasn't up there long, maybe 20 minutes or so, but I managed to pull in 3% at 142. The spawn is pretty crazy like Gryphons down in NLC, and you rarely have to move to be able to Erupt/Rain a big mob. ![]() The blue circle shows where I was standing. There's a patch of thorns there to protect you against the Typhon KB. So all in all, you're only taking about 8-400 damage at any given time. Basically all you do is spam Eruption/Rain to reel them in as they fly by. It's great stuff. Also, the green circle show where the Baby Typhons are. If you've been up there, you know just how good they are. (EDIT: With the recent Server Check Baby Typhons are now fixed...so don't expect a lot of scrolls anymore.) The Good: Fast spawn (Especially if you're sharing the map.) Low touch damage. Good drops. The Bad: Super KB will send you flying back to the Jump Quest. I highly recommend finishing the Mark of Heroism quest if you're going to train there. It makes the Jump Quest a whole lot easier in case you get sent flying. Typhon Training - Dusk - 2008-08-18 I only got knocked down to the JQ twice in over an hour of being there. And instead of standing only in that one spot, I went around and hit the other two eggs as well (Well, mostly the one directly above those two, the other one's a pain in the ass to reach.) It's best if you're 10x+, because 56k hp using mob attacks is quite a lot to deal with even with SE at 12x D: The experience is decent. I haven't recorded any numbers, though. The real motivation to train here is the drops from Baby Typhons. In about an hour, I got 3 70% xbow, 2 70% top str, 5 70% 1h axe, 4 30% helm def (3 worked on my chief stan before the 4th broke it, lol), tobis, and some various crap i threw away. I also found something from Typhons, but I forget what it was D: I have some tips: Use Puppet! Getting kicked off while trying to loot a scroll is the most annoying thing ever. Also, mobbing a Puppeted mob with Inferno is cheaper than standing and tanking 400 damage. Don't use Hawk/Eagle. I had Hawk running for a few minutes, and I couldn't get the mobs to come back up after being stunned D: Phoenix is fine, Frostprey is fine but won't do any damage. Keep lots of Use space open (like 8+). You want those scrolls and stars without having to drop other crap every time. Typhon Training - chrome - 2008-08-18 And I was just getting to making a thread about this...well, I don't know if it's exactly viable for lower 9x, but I was gonna ask if any higher level could judge the level range. Typhon Training - Technolink - 2008-08-18 At lvl 101 I was fine. Just like pirates, it doesn't matter how many hit it takes to kill them, as long as you get the good exp. A early 9x with max Ae/r should get fine exp here. Typhon Training - aznegglover - 2008-08-18 What's so great about baby Typhons? Typhon Training - Mark - 2008-08-18 They drop scrolls and Tobis like candy. The most notable scrolls are: 70% Crossbow, 70% Topwear STR. Rest are DEF and the one odd HP scroll. Typhon Training - chrome - 2008-08-19 One thing I have to say after trying these out: Wow. Using a Painkiller (30 minutes) to time, I gained roughly 16% in a span of half an hour. That's 32% an hour; I was KBed to the left stair-like platforms several times (About 5 times if I counted right), and even fell off the whole map once, so I assume that if I hadn't fallen off the map, I would get maybe 34% an hour. I'm level 91 with level 25 Eruption. I accidentally copied over my "before" screenshot, so I can't provide screenshot proof now, but next time I get to training there, I certainly will. A few more tips from me, after spending about 45 minutes there: -Since Typhons have a fairly long KB, your Eruption/Rain KB will keep them flinching long enough so that they will rarely have a chance to super-KB you. -You want to be facing left when you Erupt/Rain so that they are KBed to the left, so that if you are super-KBed, you will fly to the right, safely into the wall. -Their super-KB, in turn, stuns you for about a second or two, leaving you open to more attacks. Try to get out of this and react as quickly as possible to avoid this. -Use Inferno or Blizzard along with Eruption/Rain to lure the Typhons to you if they are too far away for Eruption/Rain to reach. Typhons are immune to ice, so you won't have to worry about them freezing. -Sometimes they decide to be faggots and stay at the top of the map, so occasionally (And I did this like, twice) you will have to climb up the rope to lure the Typhons back down. -If you do what I mentioned above, do NOT try to kill the Typhons while you're on the top/middle of the map, as you have no wall to protect you if they super-KB you, and you might fall off the map/fall far from your regular spot. -You WILL gobble up HP pots like a paper shredder training here, but: -The heavy money drops cover a lot of the price, plus the surplus of scrolls from Baby Typhons you might be able to sell for a quick buck. -Baby Typhons can and will stun you if you get close when you try to loot, so be careful. -Try to loot only when you don't have any Typhons agro'd towards you, othwerise throw out a Puppet whenever you loot. (lol as if this wasn't already instinct) -Pots: I'd probably recommend something like Barbs to heal you every three Typhon hits. The little spike doesn't do much to protect you; you're hit by the Typhon much more often. They hump you for about 400 to 500 damage depending on equips. To sum it all up, training here is like a high-level version of both Gryphons and Pirates; high money drops, heavy pot usage. It's great exp though, possibly the best pre-Newtie (The exp might even be comparable to Newties, I don't know rates on them though) Bowman training out there. The only real problem is getting here for those who struggle with the JQ; even getting to the JQ might be a problem due to our low HP, but it's well worth it. EDIT: Drops, after 45ish minutes of training, probably more, I stopped timing after the painreliever ran out. I started at 46% btw. As you can probably tell, I gushed all my pots out of my ass. Went from 371 Barbs to 2. MP wasn't much of a problem though, started at something around 400. I didn't really keep track. (Next time I test this I promise I'll be more organized ) Used an Elixir the whole time.![]() Scrolls are Helm DEF, Topwear STR, Bottomwear HP, Cape DEF, Cape HP, Crossbow ATT, in that order. About 15 of those Showa Milks dropped. Skills: 3 Puppet, 1 Blizzard, 30 Strafe, 25 AE, 5 MB. Typhon Training - IsaacGS - 2008-08-19 hmm... I've been doing this differently than everyone else, it seems. I stand where that cave is, against the wall, so that the typhon can't knock me off. that way drops won't fall away or anything, either. Typhon Training - chrome - 2008-08-19 Forgot to add (In response to Isaac), the money drops will fall on the platform you stand on, where Mark said he was standing in his post. You wanna pin yourself to the little ledge on the right. Typhon Training - ChaosCorpse - 2008-08-19 During 1 4 hour 2x period with 20 mins of which being 4x, I earned 165% there. Granted I was talking here and there and I fell maybe a dozen or so times (I finished the quests though so there is no trouble getting back). And I went to repot twice during that time so I know it can be faster. It took me from lvl 98-100. I know I haven't trained seriously in ages, but this seems really fast. Wouldnt standing at the cave entrance mean you're not killing the eggs (which drop most of the scrolls)? I just use the stand in the middle method. I was there for 3-4 hours today and found 11 tobis, 21 70% topwear str, 70 30% helm def, 24 30% bottomwear hp, 49 70% cape def (or mag def), 49 70% xbow attack, 60 70% 1h axe, 2 nimble wristguards and some of the other junk. Things to chime in: 1. You dont need to bring a lot of pots. They drop alot of food that heals 1.5k and I was able to survive on those for a good hour (on 100) before having to use the barbs that I brought. 2. Noobs (Some are high levels but its pathetic they have to use the "chief bandit" approach to goby maps method) annoy the hell outta me here. You'd see a good 5-10 people on your map every minute (no exaggeration). Some have the courtesy to just break the top egg and leave when they see you at middle. There were a few pathetic bastards who'd break the 2 eggs on the platform I was raining on even after seeing me there. 3. Super PKB is REALLY annoying. Standing on the spikes/thorns usually saves you from that but regardless, its really annoying, especially in a full world like Scania where you lose your map when you get super pkb'd. Edit: At 128 with mediocre equips (I dont have an overall no more), I was getting roughly 6-7%/hr (about 1-1.2% every 10 minutes), and this is with a super pkb about every 10-15 minutes (I fail >_>). So yeah, I made around 100 mill there today, lololo. (Even though 30% helm def only sell for like 100k, 70 of them = 7 mill xD) Edit 2: I dont know if anyone's noticed, but when I went up to mob them and brought them down to that ledge with 2 eggs, if I had previously casted a puppet, they dont go after me but the puppet, even if the puppet was cast before aggro'ing them, meaning they maybe react strangely to puppet. Typhon Training - Russt - 2008-08-19 If you leave the game, do you respawn in the same map? The esc-up-enter technique may be of use if so, in the case of super KB. Typhon Training - Mark - 2008-08-19 You could just make your way to the cave and log out there. It's a bit safer I'd imagine. Everyone else has made some good points about this map. The good far outweighs the bad. Typhon Training - Dusk - 2008-08-19 The pots are not an issue if you're 4th job and/or you kill them fairly quickly. I used less than 20 Ice Creams in an hour. Typhon Training - Technolink - 2008-08-19 Opeth Wrote:You could just make your way to the cave and log out there. It's a bit safer I'd imagine. Sap is saying mid-super kb flight, you could just log off the game, log back on, and still be in the map! And Jack, That was discovered long ago, if you have a puppet out and you go out of its range (you know, as if it was another player, when you can't see that player's red dot, that range), and you come back into it with a monster, they are agroed towards the puppet. This was used heavily at DTs in a previous life, lol. Typhon Training - Retalion - 2008-08-19 Technolink Wrote:Sap is saying mid-super kb flight, you could just log off the game, log back on, and still be in the map! Yeah... I never knew that xD The thing with logging out and in is that it might take more time to do that than to teleport through the maps back to it. I can get back in around 20-30 seconds. relogging takes what? 15? Its not really worth it for that meager of a difference, not to mention have to recast attack pots and whatnot. Typhon Training - Rei - 2008-08-19 I always kinda sat there and Erupted. Never thought it'd actually be suitable for training. Guess CWK isn't completely useless exp-wise.
Typhon Training - Technolink - 2008-08-19 Retalion Wrote:Yeah... I never knew that xD Do you have the mark of heroism? It takes me a good 3 minutes to get back, mostly climbing up ascent. Typhon Training - Russt - 2008-08-19 Yeah, Mark of Heroism makes the return a lot easier, but without it, the log off trick would help. (If it works.) |
