There are so many pokemon games that it would be unfair to limit it just to the canon games (rbygscrsedppt), though if one of those is your favourite that's okay too.

I've played a couple of the Mystery Dungeon games and found them to be a lot fun but in my opinion, R/S/E was the best the series has offered. In terms of gameplay, it introduced many of the smooth features we now see today including a SMART clock (the one in GSC was dumb) and running shoes, as well as visible HMs. Graphically, it took the step between ugly as pomegranate and trying too hard to be 3D that we've seen for the last two releases. There was so much vibrancy and detail, it was easy to just lose myself in it.

The only bad thing that RSE introduced, as far I'm concerned, was Feebas.

Eff you Feebas.

Yellow.

Getting to play with Pikachu following you around all the time, sweet. that it was always with you, i felt like ash. that you got the 3 starters in the game, win. SEEING AND FIGHTING JESSIE, JAMES, AND MEOWTH? Sha-weet. it also IMO is the only one of the series, in terms of the standard 2 with the third outlier, that really had a story that was more different than the main two games, compared to the other two, minus perhaps in a lesser degree Crystal with the introduction of Eusine.

Pokemon TCG! That was a fun but rather slow game.

Feebas in Pearl was 2 hours of mindless pressing Y as I worked on homework. I still haven't caught Munchlax, so yeah that's nothing.

...and when was the clock even used in R/S/E? You set it at the beginning of the game, but there's no day/night or anything.

Wall of text

I never really liked any of the side games all that much, so I'm going to have to go with HG/SS. I stopped playing Pokemon when 3rd gen came out, because I thought it was terrible. I only played Ruby on VBA up to the 3rd gym or so, but it just bored the hell out of me. It was the same 5 Pokemon on every route, there were endless trainer battles vs. people with 2 Seedots or something equally useless, double battles sucked ass, Team Magma didn't make any sense, you didn't have an actual rival, the text was goofy...I had a huge list of complaints about it at one point. My roommate played through Emerald a few months ago and I looked on as he played a couple of times, and they did seem to fix a lot of the issues, but the endless water routes and diving was disgusting to look at.

Anyway, I got back into Pokemon about 3 months ago with Pearl. I'm still amazed by how much they've improved the battling. Double battles are no longer a pain in the ass, they're actually enjoyable. The mechanics make so much more sense. I've found it easy to invest dozens of hours into Battle Tower alone. But beyond 4th gen in general, HG/SS was just an awesome experience for me. Firstly, it gets points for nostalgia. The remixed music was done just right. It's even more amazing when you turn on the GB sounds and compare it to the original. Secondly, the graphics are beautiful by DS standards. The scene where you fight Ho-Oh was a huge change from the original random bird at the top of the tower, and felt really epic. Thirdly, I'm really amazed by how much side content they've been cramming into the new games. I didn't even know about Fuego Ironworks in Pearl until I'd put over 200 hours into the game. HG/SS takes the cake with a pomegranateload of legendaries, none of which I've even attempted to catch yet, a few caves, an awesome Safari Zone, Voltorb Flip, Pokeathlon, Battle Frontier (even if it's just copied from Pt), rematches against all the Gym Leaders and the E4, and some more stuff I probably forgot to mention. The Pokewalker is pretty cool, too. And finally, the game plays a lot smoother and faster than D/P did. Battles are fast-paced and the entire game can be played on the touchscreen. Feels awesome.

The Regi's only appeared on certain days at certain times. But now that you mention it, maybe I am remembering just how smart that clock was wrong.

And yeah, I never caught a munchlax in DPPt either. I spent over a month smearing trees with honey. Luckily HG has Snorlax, so I just bred one to get munchlax, which I will disperse to my other games once I get [access to] another DS.

Played up til R/S/E (owned 2 Ruby versions..?), but I must say, I enjoyed playing Pokemon Colusseum the most. It was sorta repetitive, and the voices were terrible. But the gameplay was fun, I think I obtained a Shadow Suicune and turned it back to a regular Cune and just xferred over to my Ruby version. It was fun while it lasted.

Gonna have to say Platinum version. Crazy fun and more challenging than R/S/E, with a better story too. The whole Giratina thing was wicked. I was just like WHATTT the whole time. lol And sexy Cynthia is the best champion ever. I haven't played HeartGold/SoulSilver yet. I'm thinking overall, though, Platinum will still be my top.

The only non-version Pokemon games I own are Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, Colosseum and Snap. Those were all a lot of fun, but they were more like supplement to the already awesome version games.

Hmmm, hard choice, but I will say that Mystery Dungeon Explorers of the Sky was my favorite.

I love the game system

Oh shi-- the music that plays as you and Cynthia are talking, right before you fight her, that piano music; ive gotten to that stage many times over JUST to hear that song play.

Red, Blue, FR, LG, GSC. I'm in love with pokemon since I was 7 or 8 and I played the first versions. The game was so awesome that I would always talk about pokemon with my best friend every time of the day. It was one of the first games to really get me hooked to the point of playing like 10 hours straight.

Seriously. The battle music is awesome, too. The whole thing feels quite epic, especially the very first time.

Orginal Silver version is by far my favorite. I'm expecting HG to be amazing when I get it, just need work to start up. I absolutely HATED R/S/E, they were so dull and near impossible to get into until about the 7th gym.

Non mainstream game would definitely be Pokemon Snap. The whole concept of the game just made it so fun as a kid, and still does today.

Pokemon TCG. Both the real card game and the old Game boy version.
I still own the game, but the file self-destructs every week Frown oh well at least it's fun to do the card collecting over and over again.

R/S/E. I got into Pokemon that way (I'm a youngin' ) and absolutely loved it. It was smooth, and really just immersing with all the features.

I have like 4 copies of the GB TCG game, but one deletes on turn off and the others are just perfect.

Red/Yellow

I loved that time in my life. I remember when my neighbor had just gotten a Gameboy color with Red Version for his birthday. He let me borrow the two for a night, and I stayed up all night playing. I think I spent a few hours trying to leave Misty's town because I was young and couldn't find my way out. Him letting me play this was a big deal because he had just moved in, and I had never really played video games before because my parents wouldn't allow them. I also loved yellow because it was the first sequel in Pokemon and that was really exciting. It also was cool because you pretty much got an awesome team no matter what (Pickachu, charmander, squirtle, and bulbasuar). I haven't really played Pokemon since after Yellow, so I cant really say much on the games after that.
