I'm trying to get a decently leveled team to beat Red with, but I can't really figure out any good grinding places besides the Elite 4, and even that is kind of slow.

Where is the best place to grind after 50?

Grinding - Dusk - 2010-03-20

First, get yourself a Lucky Egg. It makes things much easier. Then, I think rechallenging Gym Leaders in the Dojo is the fastest.

Grinding - Sarah - 2010-03-20

what is a lucky egg and where do you get one?

Grinding - Hazzy - 2010-03-20

If this page loads, it might help answer that.

As Later poster said, Chansey. Go spam pokeballs at one.

Almost positive you get one from a Chansey.

Grinding - Dusk - 2010-03-20

Yeah, it drops from Chansey. The easiest way to get one is to have a fainted Pokemon with CompoundEyes (like Butterfree) in the front of your party, and a Pokemon with Frisk in the second slot. Then either use a Pokemon with Covet/Thief to take it, or just catch it.

Out of battle, I think it doubles the chance of finding an item from a wild Pokemon.

Where is this "dojo?" The place in Viridian only has Cal, and the battle frontier has no dojo...

The Saffron City Dojo. It requires some setup - you need to contact Gym leaders for rebattle. The Elite 4 may be faster if that's too much trouble.

I wanted to bump this to say that I just took this exact advice, and it worked on the first try. Anyone looking for a lucky egg or having trouble grinding, this is the way to go.

Edit: rofl it just worked again...

I recommend going to Route 13 to 15 (you can also do that on 14, but you're going to also encounter Skiplooms/Quagsire) if you're playing Heart Gold and Soul Silver, and Trophy Garden if you're playing D/P/Plat.

Before doing this method, here are the requirements:

Butterfree/Venonat/Yanma/Nincada with Compound Eyes
Level 18 Stantler/Shuppet with Frisk and Thief (Diamond and Pearl)
Level 25 Stantler/Shuppet with Frisk and Thief (Platinum, Heart Gold, and Soul Silver)
Super Repel/Max Repel
Poke Rader* (Platinum only)

*= Poke Radar can be obtained in Diamond and Pearl, but it's only required in the Platinum version since Pokemon you normally encounter are tad higher level than they are in Diamond and Pearl, so don't worry if you're playing Diamond and Pearl)

If you're playing Diamond or Pearl: You don't have to encounter other unwanted Pokemon, except a Pikachu if Repel is in effect. If you encounter a Pikachu or other Pokemon that the owner of the mansion talked to you about, run. If you encounter a Chansey that either has an Oval Stone or nothing at all, run.

If you're playing Platinum: You need a Poke Radar in order to steal a Lucky Egg from Chansey, because the method I mentioned in Diamond and Pearl is useless in this version. I tried that method, and I still encounter those Pokemon. Why? Because like I said, the Game Developers decided to raise the levels of a Pokemon you normally encounter before getting the National Pokedex. If you have Diamond, Pearl, Heart Gold and Soul Silver, don't do this method. If you encounter a Pokemon you don't want, run, and then you have to charge your Poke Radar by running around. If you encounter a Chansey that either has an Oval Stone, or nothing, just kill her off automatically, then the next patches of Grass start moving.

If you're playing Heart Gold or Soul Silver: You're still going to encounter Pidgeotto/Noctowl most likely, so if you encounter them, run. If you encounter a Chansey that either has an Oval Stone or nothing at all, run.

If you encounter the Chansey with a Lucky Egg, use the item stealing skill to take away her Lucky Egg. Congratulations! After all that hard work, you finally got the lucky egg. If you're going to get another one, Rinse and Repeat.

Hope that helps you.
