Sticky cleanup - Five Second Pose - 2010-03-07 Well, Rucida's idea of "training center clutter" has evolved into the two of us looking at the rest of the forum. We (I'm assuming Rucida does too) want you, the members of Southperry, to inform us of stickies that are outdated, or threads that should be stickied. Sticky cleanup - Takebacker - 2010-03-07 What's wrong with the "where to train" thread for pirates? I don't see anything wrong with it, since major training spots haven't really changed since it was updated anyway. Sticky cleanup - Five Second Pose - 2010-03-07 I'm no expert, that's why I'm asking the community for help. xD Sticky cleanup - Takebacker - 2010-03-07 Rayquaza2233 Wrote:I'm no expert, that's why I'm asking the community for help. xD ...Which is why i'm telling you this.
Sticky cleanup - Russt - 2010-03-07 I don't really think that it's our job as moderation to enforce this process. If people feel the need for a more up-to-date guide, someone will create one. That said, it is nice that you brought this to people's attention. Do people feel the need for more up-to-date stickies? Sticky cleanup - Sarah - 2010-03-07 I think Rayquaza is right. If you don't update your threads, or don't give permission for them to be updated, they should be removed to prevent useless clutter. I would say every 2 content patches (new areas) the old threads should be reviewed to see if anything needs to be changed. There's no point in having training threads that tell people that they should be going somewhere super outdated. They'll either get discouraged, get angry, or go find the information elsewhere. All of which leads to the topics still being useless clutter. Sticky cleanup - Shidoshi - 2010-03-07 The magician one needs to be changed a lot. It doesn't include, just for a few examples, galloperas, regret monsters for F/P, Twisted Jesters for 2nd job F/P and others. Along with many outdated places such as coolies. Sticky cleanup - Russt - 2010-03-07 Sarah Wrote:I think Rayquaza is right. If someone wrote a more updated thread I would gladly switch it in for an older one. But I'm not going to support Basil-style plagiarism and just hand threads over to others just because the original author's not here anymore. If a sticky's outdated, by all means create a new one or ask the original author if you can modify theirs, and we'll put the newer/better one up. Sticky cleanup - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-03-07 I consider Arans as a type of Warrior, Evans as a type of Mage, and Dual-blades as a type of Thief. Why make more guides for them? Arans only have a few differences to a Spearman, IMO. Ok, Arans mobs and hits more. But in terms of mobility and how they attack, it's almost the same. Might as well stick Arans in with Warriors. Likewise for the rest of them. Sticky cleanup - Shidoshi - 2010-03-07 Kawasari Mimoto Wrote:I consider Arans as a type of Warrior, Evans as a type of Mage, and Dual-blades as a type of Thief. However they are on the same thread. Sticky cleanup - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-03-07 Shidoshi Wrote:In regards to that, training spots for F/P and I/L differ more than between aran and spearman. However they are on the same thread. Exactly my point. Stick them in the same thread, doesn't have to be the same areas though. I'm aware Crusaders, White Knights, and Dragon Knights trains at different areas too. Stick them all in the same thread where they belong. If every new class came out, and someone made a new training-thread just for that class, it'd be annoying to sort through. No one will use the guide when they can and will find a better one elsewhere. Just having it there for the sake of having it there doesn't make sense... Sticky cleanup - Shidoshi - 2010-03-07 An alternative to having those outdated stickies is to ling to the "Training Spots" guides over at sleepywood. I was just checking the one for magicians over there and it was pretty good. Sticky cleanup - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-03-07 Problem with all of this is, no one near college-level education will have the time to constantly log in the game to test EXP-rates for a guide. Sure, maybe a person that graduated HS (that doesn't go to college or doesn't work much) or didn't yet, could. But it's near impossible to expect others to do this near every patch. Yes, it's their responsibility as the maker/creator to update it. But most likely, they will 'drop' the entire guide, and someone else will have to pick up where it's left-off anyways. Speaking from experience. EDIT: TBH, I do glance at "Where to train" guides once in a while to see where others would train. But I don't go to those places too much, because I expect them to be crowded. I'm surprised people still use guides like that. Whatever you guys intend on doing, best of luck. Staying neutral right now, because I realize people have a life outside of MapleStory and the internet. Though on the other hand, if they create it, they should update it. If they can't, drop the project and hand it over to someone else. As long as credibility has been stated somewhere in the guide saying 'xxx person did this and that on xyz date', blah blah blah. Update notes would be nice. Sticky cleanup - Russt - 2010-03-08 Well, in a way it's only natural. When a new area comes out, people scout it for new training places. I used to do this when I co-authored one of those. Of course, it helps to have multiple characters of various level ranges that you don't train regularly very much (lest you leave gaps). Might as well make it once of those "community/anybody can update" sorta guides. Similar to Wikipedia. Because really, I don't know of anyone that can consistently update guides. There are hundreds of maps, and expecting a single person to pull off a work-load like that is extremely harsh and tedious, and perhaps stressful to that person. Sticky cleanup - Shidoshi - 2010-03-08 In a way, to update the thread it suffices that the community gives input on new areas for each class/subclass. No need for the thread author to go and test every one of them. He needs to simply update the first post with what is told. This is the way the Basil archers' guide used to be managed. Take input from the community. Maybe compile something like this. It doesn't have to be a one-person job. It just needs that someone take the initiative. Sticky cleanup - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-03-08 Lucida Wrote:Or what Shidoshi said. This is the way the Basil archers' guide used to be managed. Something like that with actual statistics would help. I'd actually like to see that. Good luck to you if the entire community is even capable of that. |
