"Best man" - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-02-28
I was at work earlier, and my best friend stopped by to see me. He was with his 'girlfriend', or so I thought. Then he told his girlfriend to show me her 'engagement ring', at this point, I was shocked. I said "Grats, my white brother from another motha!" and hugged him and his now-a-fiance. So then he surprised me by saying that I will be his best-man at the wedding. The wedding will take place in about a year. I think I'm supposed to make a toast, right? Anybody have any tips that have been a best-man at a wedding? Or anybody that has done any toasts? Thanks. Like, I really need help. I want to make a really awesome toast for my bestfriend.

Great advice, seriously. I'll keep that in mind! I gotta start thinking of what to say and which memories to pick, I've known him since my 1st day in college, and even though we no longer go to the same college/university, he's a swell guy. We always ate breakfast once or twice a week before classes, or after classes during my 1st 2 years in college. We usually had classes together and stuff, etc. And yes, definitely planning on a bachelor party! Bring on the chicks!

If you can take a speech class next semester (if you haven't already) I'd say that would help a lot. Public speaking is one of those things that gets easier the more you practice it. Plus, a college speech course usually covers how to give a toast at a wedding without making yourself look like a jackass.

Yeah, actually, I have Public Speaking right now this semester!
I did an introductory speech to introduce a person, but I've yet to practice on doing a toast.

I'd flip through your textbook and look for "speeches to entertain" or something like that. Did a quick Google search and found this nugget of goodness:

Including one serious point serves as an anchor, so people feel like their getting their money's worth, like the prize in the Cracker Jack box.
