Pirates pillage and steal the riches and wealth from other sea-faring vessels, including other pirate ships. they go ashore, steal, pillage, rape/kidnap, and murder. then they resupply on alcohol and food, then depart to sea once again.
then there are privateers, which are legally sanctioned pirates. they act as pirates, and can do most of the things that pirates do, but they are bound by the laws of their homelands. there are cases where privateers go rogue (STFU, sarah palin) and become true pirates.

ninja's sneak in the shadows, lurk behind fake magic, aka illusions, and are hired killers. theyre boring, and only act when motivated by revenge/money. pirates are always moving and acting. pirates use guns and cannons, rapiers and cutlasses. ninja's use shoddy short swords intended only for impaling their targets, and then discarding them in the bodies of their target. they rely mainly on smoke bombs, throwing stars, hand claws, and poison darts. $5 bucks on which has the superior fire power, the one that can fire balls of metal from the coast, or silly men tossing tiny steel stars and throwing smoke bombs from the land.

Pirates > ninjas.
