I googled it too, it might be Vista, since I use XP. Or, you could be missing files.

Romanized? Not really, I used korean and japanese. However, it doesn't really help you read characters, it pretty much assumes you know all the character/letters/symbols beforehand. It teaches you the 'alaphabets' very slowly, which isn't reliable since youll just forget everything it shows you until you know all the characters. Other than that, if you can read it (not comprehend, just read), Rosetta Stone is just fine.

How do I correct Error 1117 in Windows Vista?

Error 1117 is caused by missing information in Windows Vista's host file. This error is an issue with Windows Defender and is in no way related your Rosetta Stone software. To correct this error you will need to close your Rosetta Stone application and any open web-browsers before following the directions below.

Repairing Windows Vista's Host File

Click on the Start Menu
Open All Programs
Open Accessories
Right-click Notepad
Click Run as administrator

Click File on Notepad's menu-bar
Click Open
Double-click Computer
Double-click C: (sometimes named Local Disk or OS C
Double-click the Windows folder
Double-click System32 folder
Double-click drivers folder
Double-click etc folder
Use the drop-down box on the lower-right of the window to change the file type to: All Files

Double-click hosts

Click on the line above "::1 localhost"
Type "127.0.0.1 localhost"
The large space between 127.0.0.1 and localhost is made by pressing your keyboard's Tab-key
Your file should now look like the one below

lick File
Click Save
Close Notepad
Open Rosetta Stone
With the above fix in place, you should be able to get to Rosetta Stone's home screen successfully. When you get to your home screen the microphone setup screen will appear and Rosetta Stone should work normally.
