Opinion on Save Scumming? - KajitiSouls - 2010-02-06 Saving your game... How often do you do it? And will you abuse it if you get the chance to? Personally, I tend not to save a lot, partly because I play long periods at a time, partly because I like the gaming experience. On the other hand, most tactical games that end up severely punishing you for whatever reason cause me to save a lot.

Opinion on Save Scumming? - Sarah - 2010-02-06 What is this term? You should link to wikipedia when you use terms that only really hardcore DnD fans would know (teasing but seriously wikipedia links when using terms like this) I can only assume it's either spamming saves or using save states to "protect" your progress or to hope for a different outcome. I got really addicted to save states for a long time and ended up having a difficult time getting back into normal gameplay after that. I had to go to rehab. Save state withdrawal is the worst. So now I try and stay away from them. It was just nice to know that I could have control... Opinion on Save Scumming? - Russt - 2010-02-06 Save Scumming Depends on the game. I usually save right before something major and difficult, especially if there's something to lose if I fail. Otherwise, not that much. Off topic but I sometimes wish "save scumming" could be used in real life too. Opinion on Save Scumming? - KajitiSouls - 2010-02-07 Sarah, this might be something you could relate to... Use ZNES for SM RPG 7 Stars rom and save scumming your way through the 99 jump challenge -- on your first try. Haha xD Opinion on Save Scumming? - IllegallySane - 2010-02-07 I do this for Fire Emblem games. God, especially the Fire Emblem games. I can't stat seeing a character just get a single stat point, or even nothing at all. Here's how far I went in Save Scumming in Fire Emblem 7:
Spoiler
Bartre is my pride and joy: ![]() I even Save Scummed on the Jeigans/bad characters of the game: ![]() ![]() My lords suck. I Save Scummed their first 20 levels, but the rest I couldn't due to no arenas when they promoted. ![]() ![]()
Opinion on Save Scumming? - FelixTM - 2010-02-07 What the frickin' HELL, man. You are crazy. Why would you waste so much time making them all perfect? The most I ever did in Fire Emblem was arena up a few people in the pirate town, just to try out some new chars in subsequent runs. I didn't care what anyone got upon level up. Arena'ing them made them overpowered as it was. It was crazy/fun seeing them that powerful. I can't imagine them being GODLY like yours. That's just...lol. Your Lyn fails. She is the most awesome Lord! I had her become sexy every play except my 2nd time (first time doing Hector). I've used Marcus every single time... haha I know that's lame, but he's such a useful tool from the get-go. And no need to cheat! I've used almost every character, though. I hate frickin' Florina, and I hate that she's the first Peg Knight. Her sisters are SO much better and less annoying. Wyvern Knights (well, Vaida) are even sexier. I only used Bartre once, and that was just to see what recruiting that Karla chick was like. I really like a lot of the characters you picked, though. Whoa Fire Emblem chit-chat. I must not get to talk about it often enough. --- I have no problem with this "save scumming," but I rarely do it. I don't save much in games unless I know it's before something difficult. When I'm playing roms, I mainly use the legit save feature. Only resort to states if it's some stupid "you will have to redo a ton of crap if you die and we're not gonna let you save lol" area. This was ~5-6 years ago, before I discovered the fun and devotion required for online games; my last online game was Gunbound, and I wasn't into Maple yet. I played WoW, but very lightly. This was the result of what was my "MMO time" being used for Fire Emblem. *With Florina with max stats, I couldn't give give a hoot getting anymore Pegasus Knights.
Opinion on Save Scumming? - Nightclaw - 2010-02-07 I so want to get into fire emblem (the RNG abuse and save scumming part) but i dont know how to. Linkie to guild please? Ive played most of them without it, but I like perfect chars. Opinion on Save Scumming? - IllegallySane - 2010-02-09 Nightclaw Wrote:I so want to get into fire emblem (the RNG abuse and save scumming part) but i dont know how to. Linkie to guild please? There isn't really a guide. My way was to arena abuse. I save state each time a character is about to fight. If he/she dies, I reload. Should the character level up, I simply check to see which stats get raised. I check by which stat is their weakest by researching each stat's growth rates. I try to raise their weakest attribute. I always go for at least 4 areas that gain a point which is +4 points, but usually I want +5 points. If I'm lucky, I can get +6, or even +7, or all areas gaining a point. If I get less than 4 points of stats, I usually reload, get out of the arena, and skip a turn and try again the next turn. That changes the "Random Number Generator" that the game will roll for your stats (ie you'll gain a point in different areas next time). To make it cheesier, I use several save states per level. It'd wouldn't be uncommon for me to have 3-5 different save states for level up gains, so I can evaluate which level up to take. To avoid confusion and accidentally reloading old data, I always delete those save states afterward and make fresh new ones. I think I once checked my Recycling Bin and it had over 1,000 save states. Yes I realize how crazy I am with Fire Emblem Save Scumming. Pro-tip: Balance out the stat gains. If possible, don't cap out any stats or cap as few stats as possible before promotion. It's better to have a well balanced bland character than one with capped stats in their area of expertise (like Myrmidons capping Skill and Speed), as long as the well-balanced character overall gained more TOTAL stat points than the latter. Also, ALWAYS try to level up with HP. If you don't have at least 40 HP before you promote, you won't get to max/near max HP at max level. Here's an example of well balanced stats: ![]() Okay it's a bit unfair because Ross in FE8 gets an extra 10 levels as a trainee, but the idea is still there. Round out stats; don't cap too many areas too soon before promotion. Opinion on Save Scumming? - Rhayn - 2010-02-14 IllegallySane Wrote:I do this for Fire Emblem games. Here's how far I went in Save Scumming in Fire Emblem 7: I used to be like that, until I realised one day that it was fucking killing me. I'd actually leave games unplayed because I was too busy searching up tiny little details to ensure a perfect play-through on the first go. It's probably the biggest reason why I've distanced myself from single player RPG's and latched on to online games instead. Nowadays, I try to relax and just play, but my OC tendencies still creeps in at times. |
