Various Computer Issues - ImagineAll - 2010-01-23 Basically my dad just gave me his old Sony Vaio since he's upgraded to new computer(s) and handed it down to me. When I turned it on and was messing with a few things I got an error message about Data Execution Process or something. It forces me to reboot, and when I relog I get this pop up:

I did a quick virus scan using MalwareBytes and Symantec Antivirus, both turned up massive amounts of Adware, etc. I got all of that removed, I think, and was trying to install a few programs such as Maple, etc. When I got a pop up:

Last thing that randomly started popping up after reboot was:

I'm usually pretty good about fixing minor issues, but this whole thing just seems like a total cluster pineapple. I'm not sure if I should try and reformat, since I know this computer still has a lot of sensitive business related information of my dad's, and don't want to risk losing any of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated ;-; Various Computer Issues - bored4ever86 - 2010-01-23 on the first one if you post the error report it'd be helpful (click the click here text) second one, if this computer is your dad's old business computer it may still have the admin block on installing non preapproved programs and hence this error, if not it could be that windows installer is corrupted and needs to be repaired third error sound/looks like a component of one of the adwares you removed, they sometimes give errors like this to make you think you did something really wrong by deleting parts of them to get you to reinstall to avoid the errors Various Computer Issues - ImagineAll - 2010-01-23 How do I go about fixing the installer if it is corrupted? Alright, basically did a system restore and it seemed okay until the computer just stopped responding. Restarted and got the same error message as before; I opened it and got the specific details of the log as you asked:

I'm pretty much at a loss here. I have no idea what I am looking at or what to do with it. I've tried googling a few things on how to fix the installer, but most of them seem outdated (granted this computer is three some odd years old, so I guess anything related to it will be outdated). I appreciate your help =/ Ugh, just another thing to add: my sound isn't working. I went to my device manager and all of my drivers are installed, but when I click on the speaker in my task bar it tells me:

And for some reason my Task Bar/Start Menu keep switching from the standard blue Windows XP, to the Classic. Any thoughts on why? ;-; Various Computer Issues - XTOTHEL - 2010-01-24 most time saving thing to do is save all the files that you need, format. then scan the drive with the files when attaching it to another computer to make sure no virus got on them. Various Computer Issues - ImagineAll - 2010-01-24 Yeah, I finally caved and just reformatted. I backed it all up onto our External Hardrive. Just took me awhile to figure out how to find out where to get the Outlook files from. |
