Suggestions on more anime to watch - Shidoshi - 2010-01-12 Considering the following animes I have already watched with the ones in RED been the ones I liked the most.
Spoiler
I don't really care that much what style it is.The bigger points in choosing an anime for me are, in order of importance: -It is good and original, overused themes and stories are not nice. -It should not be far too long, at MOST 50 episodes unless it's pineappleing godly (FMA:B for example). -Preferably it should have finished airing already. Suggestions on more anime to watch - Kevo - 2010-01-12 Sailor Moon. No joke. It's godly, and it has finished airing. Suggestions on more anime to watch - Solarboy - 2010-01-12 I was going to recomend you Keroro gunsou, but... its still airing and has over 200 episodes so... no >_<, but i recomen watching it in your free time its fun and random Suggestions on more anime to watch - hyperhopper - 2010-01-12 .hack//sign awesome soundtrack original setting only about 20 episodes makes you think interesting plot room for speculation just awesome Suggestions on more anime to watch - Dyxanije - 2010-01-12 Full Metal Panic! Also, thanks for the suggestions, I'll see what those are about. Suggestions on more anime to watch - madanthony - 2010-01-12 I like your taste. Seconding everything from Dyx, adding: Ghost in the Shell SAC (Surprised it isn't on your list given your other shows) Darker Than Black S1/2 Denno Coil Ergo Proxy Kaiba Mai Hime + Mai Otome - Yes, these are full of doe-eyed anime girl tropes, but there's something about these two that makes it a total guilty pleasure show of mine. Maybe it's the good dose of sci-fi and action. Mnemosyne - Kinda NSFW, but good sci-fi/thriller Paranoia Agent Trigun Some movies: Mind Game Anything by Satoshi Kon Suggestions on more anime to watch - Tikey - 2010-01-12 Original? What's that? Anyways: (Zoku) Natsume Yuujin-chou Kannagi The Tower of Druaga Summer Wars (movie) Kyou no Go no Ni (TV) Suggestions on more anime to watch - JoeTang - 2010-01-12 Seconding Darker than BLACK and Ga Rei -Zero-. Spice and Wolf & Sequel Eve no Jikan Welcome to the NHK! Suggestions on more anime to watch - Jon - 2010-01-12 I came in here to suggest FLCL but it's already in red.
Suggestions on more anime to watch - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-01-12 I've seen and enjoyed: -FLCL -Elfen Lied -To Love Ru -Kanokon (LOL I LOVE THIS ANIME) But I also read manga, I also recommend these manga: -Kanokon -Watashi ni xx Shinasai! Have a ball. Suggestions on more anime to watch - kingdj333 - 2010-01-12 Naruto Shippuden! This pomegranate is fucking beastly! Suggestions on more anime to watch - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-01-12 Oh, and I just watched "Spice and Wolf" just now, since JoeTang mentioned it. I remember seeing the name a long while ago somewhere else, and never got to it, until Joe reminded me of it again in this thread. I have a ton of wallpapers from that anime, but I never knew it until today. It seems like a really interesting series, based upon my observation of the 1st episode only. I'm surprised that even with slight-nudity (no nipples exposed), with the way the story unravels, it doesn't have that "Oh, this anime is all nudity and just cleavage, lots and lots of it" feeling to it. 9/10, since this isn't normally my sort of gig, but I enjoy the story so far, and I like the characters. Suggestions on more anime to watch - Spideyjvc - 2010-01-12 My original message got eaten up, and since I decided to use Chrome for just a few minutes I lost my post because I don't have Lazarus here. Had to retype it from scratch. If there's anything here that doesn't have an explanation after, it just means I was too lazy to retype one for the show, doesn't mean I don't have anything good to say about it. Original series: Mononoke (not the same as Princess Mononoke) Very unique series with a very nice art style. It's actually a spinoff based on the last arc of Ayakashi, but it's good on its own. If you want, you can watch the last 4 episodes of Ayakashi as a start. Ayakashi isn't one connected story, so starting from the last 4 episodes will just give you the Mononoke part of the story. It's really one of my favorite series. Kaiba Trapeze Very trippy anime with a very unique style. Mixes live action with anime with...colors and patterns everywhere. If you liked Mononoke you'll probably like this too. Based strongly on your list: Darker Than Black Batman. Paranoia Agent Relating this to Eva and Lain. Serial Experiments Lain Gunbuster and Diebuster Gunbuster is one of GAINAX's older works (older than Eva). It starts off pretty slow, but it's only 6 episodes. Because it's so old, some of the themes in it seem pretty overused by today's standards. Diebuster is a sequel to Gunbuster that was in 2004 (you can tell the huge difference in animation between the sequel and prequel). It's actually semi-tied to FLCL's universe. It's actually the complete opposite of Gunbuster's theme. While Gunbuster was all about staying realistic, Diebuster takes on the "kick logic to the curb" mentality that GAINAX used later for Gurren Lagann as well. Both of them are 6 episodes, so basically the first 6 episodes may be slow for you but are worth it on the second half, when you see Diebuster. Even if they're not that closely connected, I advise against skipping Gunbuster and moving straight into Diebuster. I feel Gurren Lagann was kind of like a spiritual successor to Diebuster. There are also Diebuster references in Gurren Lagann. Ga Rei -Zero- Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex As said before, I'm surprised this isn't on your list. Trigun Bit surprised this isn't there either. Ergo Proxy Planetes Hell, actually... Pretty much everything Dyx and Madan said... Denpa teki na Kanojo Reminds me of Higurashi (especially the first episode...). It's an OVA series that only has 2 episodes so far. Each one is about 45 minutes. Comedy: I noticed you're more into action than comedy, but felt like recommending a few for you. Cromartie High School The manly version of Lucky Star. Seriously. Detroit Metal City Welcome to the NHK! Not full blown comedy. There's a really good story in this. It's not particularly based on your list, but felt like including it as a suggestion for you. It's another one of my personal favorites, but that may just be because of how much I relate to it. ------------------------------------------- Also, I felt like posting some continuations of some series on your list, in case you haven't seen them. Eva - There are actually quite a few movies to Eva. I recommend watching The End of Evangelion and Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone Dokuro - There was a Dokuro 2 made. I think it was only 2 more episodes or something. Higurashi no Naku koro ni - There were 5 episodes released after, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei. It starts off with just a fanservice episode, but gets more into the story in the 2nd or 3rd episode. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Movie was released for it. The second movie comes out soon on DVD in Japan. It's basically a recap, like what GAINAX did for the Eva movies, but with new parts added in and a completely different ending. Suggestions on more anime to watch - Sn1perJohnE - 2010-01-12 madanthony Wrote:I like your taste. Seconding everything from Dyx, adding: JoeTang Wrote:Welcome to the NHK! I second these as well. Ergo Proxy is kinda off. Story can get lost, but its visually good. (havnt 100% finished, as my current sat provider doesnt have IFC, which was airing it). Paranoia Agent is awesome, mainly just for the story. Visually, its comparable to FLCL (from what i remember). NHK is great for story as well, but its not quite like some of the others listed. Its more of a love story with a bit of insanity mixed in. Witchblade was an OK series as well, mostly action. Speed Grapher for story as well. Movie; Steamboy was done well (same guy that did Akira). Suggestions on more anime to watch - Smooth Criminal - 2010-01-12 Hm, not a single mention of Clannad or Clannad: AS in this thread! It doesn't really match with any of the red highlighted ones, but it's a seriously nice watch. Give it a shot. If you're looking for good comedy: Detroit Metal City, Yakitate!! Japan, Hayate no Gotoku/Hayate the Combat Butler. You seem like you're also trying to get into Hayao Miyazaki's stuff. My Neighbor Totoro is a very nice watch, although it's arguably less complex than other works like Princess Mononoke. Give a chance to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. In addition, the somewhat more recent Ponyo was also supposed to be pretty nice. I think Mushishi is also very good and I think it might be comparable to the works of Miyazaki. It's one of the finest fantasies I've seen, and arguably one of the best anime of the decade; and to add, the graphics are phenomenal for it being a 2005 series. Also, I'll have you note that it makes you have to almost sit and think about the episode for a long time to digest everything, process everything through my head, and think about the story of the episode despite it being an episodic series in nature. Suggestions on more anime to watch - Kawasari Mimoto - 2010-01-12 I wanted to mention Kanon, Clannad, and AIR. However, people have seen me talking about it through-out the forums when I went all crazy during those times when I did watched Clannad. Clannad is a great anime, for sure. However, I admit I enjoyed Kanon a BIT more. EDIT: Also, I finished Clannad and it's sequel, and even watched the Tomoyo x Tomoya episode, as well as Tomoya x Kyou. 2nd EDIT: Another anime, which is really old... that I'd like to suggest is "Yu Yu Hakusho". This will always be one of my favorite older animes, period. No substitution for it. When I watched Clannad, Nagisa's appearance completely reminded me of Keiko from YYH.

"Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" is a great anime too. I always enjoyed watching or reading FMA, story is extremely compelling. Makes me wonder what's next, always. For the typical person, they might find FMA a bit too extreme at times when it comes to theories, or how complex the storyline is, so people don't really try to dig deeper into the story. Those who tends to enjoy the story takes it in for what it is, but expand their own knowledge of it. I love FMA, own the first FMA anime on DVD, own the movie on DVD, and I'm now watching Brotherhood online. I'm at the latest episode, as well as keeping up with the manga. Suggestions on more anime to watch - Shidoshi - 2010-01-13 Wow another huge one that was missing on my list lol, I've watched Mushishi already! Great anime. Also Trigun and the EVA movies have been watched too. Well, and I thought I was getting narrowed in my options, guess I can still watch anime for a long time. Suggestions on more anime to watch - Rob - 2010-01-13 Wait... Adding to what Spidey said... Where is Bakemonogatari? For christ's sake. It's pure awesomeness aestethically and has a great story. |
