Back up music + itunes + ipod config? - Manu - 2009-12-04

I'm going to get a new computer really soon (next week) and I've never reformatted this one since I got my ipod, so I want to know, is there any way to back up thing on itunes easily?
I mean, I can back up the music files, but then if I install iTunes on the new comp again, it will be unorganized and my playlists will be gone... right?

Also, what happens with the ipod config. when you sync it to other computer (the new one), does it lose the playlists and such :S I only have like 7Gb of music so it's a 2 dvds back up, but I'm most worried about organization on iTunes and the iPod.

Any tips?

I don't think there's any way normally within the settings of iTunes to do such a thing.

Although, a quick Google found me this guide: Guide on Copying Songs from iPod BACK to your computer.

Granted, I don't know if this works, but it's worth a try. If you have the ability to back your music up on DVDs/CDs, it'd be less of a hassle to do so.

Also, if you have something besides an iPhone or iPod Touch, you can try this.

Hope this helps in some way.

what ^ said. just upload from your ipod, and it should be exactly the way your old itunes had it. i did this just last week, so i can confirm this works flawlessly

CopyTrans is the best software I've found for putting files from your iPod back to a computer. You can keep playlists and stuff there, too. It's a great tool.

I have a 4th gen iPod nano, I should have no problem like that, right?
So I wouldn't need any dvds to back up my music?

I use a program called SharePod. Works flawlessly.

not POSITIVE, but it should still be fine. i have a 3rd gen nano. so try to test it out, see how it works. just remember to change to manually syncing your ipod, cus if not, it'll sync it automatically to what your itunes currently has, and it could delete your ipods content completely.
