I don't really know Korean, but I do know that those aren't actual characters... they're parts of characters. Letters, if you will. You need 2 or more of them together in a block to make a character.

The first one is an s sound, the second one's a m sound. If I recall.

Well, they're letters yeah. But if they're just written side by side like that I don't think it would mean anything. I'd assume it's just like saying "Find a pole with the English letters MS" or something.

shiut, mium. Respectively. As stated before they are just letters and do not compose whole words. Even with the existence of a bar either vertical to shiut which would make it shi or horizontal which I have no idea how that would grammatically exist without an eeyung... if it does exist with an eeyung it should be oot. Or something like that. :x It would still be grammatically incorrect. So they probably exist by themselves as simple markers or something is missing from the original translation.

Actually, I think you're right. Pretty sure Korean does borrow some characters from Chinese, just as Japanese does with kanji (?).
