Serious question here. What do you look for when watching a Maple vid? - Kawasari Mimoto - 2009-10-15

As title is already stated, what do you guys personally look for when you are watching a Maple Story video? The message in a the video? Or 'beat' of the music? How well-controlled the character is? Or how the effects seems to blend in well?

This is something I've always wondered about, but when I was experimenting with videos, I try to make a video with a small, and minor message (too big makes it seem overly corny), and with a song that has a nice tempo, whether it has lyrics or not. And of course, control.

PS: Or, rather, let me rephrase, what do you look for the most? Explain why.

99% of the vids of Maple out there are... pure untalented trash. The few times i bother to check one it's to see something epic like Neo Tokyo bossfights or such, and then it's only the gameplay I look for.
One of the greatest rapes of culture in modern time is all the youtube trash where people input unrelated music.

When I look for a Maplestory video, I look for good character control as well as good music. I'm also particularly attracted to videos that have uniqueness to them. We've all seen a video of a Hero fighting a BF, so it kinda gets old. So try and mix it up a bit.

I also agree with the previous post.

I'm mostly wondering about this since I plan on making a video on 'not doing the most damage' like other Night Lords, but to show Night Lord control, and how to do a reverse Flash Jump, most people don't even know how to do that..

Originality... Music that hasn't been used 1000+ times, something intresting as a subject (not really a concern with "bossing" vids), not a bunch of over-used effects...

needless to say... i don't like many Maple Vids

I can tell what doesn't go well in a Maple Video:

1. Overdoing the special effects
2. Majority of Death Metal/Rap/R&B. I've yet to like a video that has such music in it. It CAN happen, but it's rather hard to do so. Maplestory videos give off more of a Rock/Metal/Pop feel if you know what I mean. Of course though, you can never go wrong with Yakkity Sax for a comedy portion of a Maple Video.
3. Bad control
4. Stretching a gameplay video. 5 minutes is good. 10 minutes and over is too much UNLESS it involves telling your story for playing your character. Videos over 20 minutes is plain madness.

As in techno or electronica music that no one has used before in a Maple vid? Something along the lines of..

this?

@IS: I agree, actually. Videos with R&B, Rap, and Metal in MS videos are quite annoying..

Reminds me of those 90's video-game music... not bad... not bad... though for "control vids" for a NL... i'd try to avoid killing things as the Main attention point...

See, NLs aren't the kind of class that can do a variety of things. They're known for being an attacker, so if you take that away from them. All that's left in a video is 'purely' Flash Jumping..

Death Metal, not Metal in general. When I watch a video where I hear nothing but sceeching, it's just bad and distracts me from the video. Heavy Metal/Power Metal are okay. NOT screeching Metal.

I listen to Metal, myself. But Metal doesn't seem to fit.. rofl... 'MapleStory'. <_< I mean, to be honest, if I saw a person making a MS video with Metal music in it, I'd probably laugh myself to death. It's like "oh, japanese looking game characters with.. wait, Metal?"

If I hear Linkin Park or MCR in the first five seconds, I go to a different video.

I personally don't watch to many Maple Vids unless its of a very highlvled _____ killing something but when i do i look for a fast paced kinda video. Like i would rather watch 20 5 second clips of a NL owning skeles then a 60 second long one.

I also look a lot for the music(if i hear 1 more friggin Japanese pop/techno song i WILL go postal) like sure its a fast paced arcade style MMO but that doesnt mean you need some friggin techno in it. To be honest the only people who are actually going to be playing this game and into it THAT much to be watching maple videos all day are peobally going to be a little bit older(than like 13) and probally not going to still be listening to crappy japanese techno anyways. If i were to make a video i would put some like rock-heavy rock/metal in a video that a lot of ppl know and probally like,(just off the top of my head i know that Bodies by Drowning Pool is a pretty popular song with a lot of people spaning almost the entire music range will know, and the beat to it is amazing and could sync up a very nice bunch of short cuts whilst the lead singer is doing the counting parts of the song[listen to it you will know what i mean] and could help add to the effect of what your trying to show [maybe a Hero hitting Panics on hard beats in liek 1-3 second long shots strung together] and ive always wanted to make one but ive always found that playing the game is funner than making avideo about the game...>.>)

I also HATE it when ppl say anything in their video without like re-posting it on the screen like when they say something normally in game and its like 3 pixles and you cant read it... or when you go to show your stats window ... it's friggin horrible to see blur blur blur ~ blur blur blur for an attack range... does not go over well.

Well you could um...

Well i remember seeing this one Vid of a Bucc Zakuming to the Megaman 2 Dr.Wily stage Music (which I have yet to find for a second time!!!)... like it matched up with the beat and everything.... Idk try "dancing" to your music in "one loop" (no breaks or "wipes")... that would be some awesome control...

The videos I watch are mainly as a guide on "how to do X on Y character". So what I want are short videos explaining well what you need to know.

yep.. it was speed up a little to match some beats... but it's one of the only vids with a lot "effects" that I liked because it worked and it was awesome...
oh and i meant the video of the Bucc not the song itself

I like to look for the default blue screens in frames of text, shout-outs to other Maplers, overuse of emoticons, and other peoples' jokes. Poast

The only MS videos I watch are to educate myself, essentially.

ie:
- What's a new area and/or monster like (when stuff comes out or places we still don't have)
- How does X class play
- Skill demonstrations or comparisons so I can make up my own mind about how to build my character (such as a holy arrow vs. magic claw side-by-side comparison, for example)
- Bosses I'm interested in defeating (so I can see how to "exploit" their bad AI or attack patterns. I solo'ed a BF at 112 because of this Smile )

Every other maple video... I couldn't care less.
