Recently Hacked - What do I do? - Spiral - 2009-10-02
I was recently hacked and lost 10,000 NX cash, 10 sets of steelies, 8 att WG, PAC, 6mill, and other items on my level 70 Night Walker. I spent a good couple weeks training my Night Walker from 1-70 and was really proud of it. I'm finding it near impossible to get back to where I was. Besides just being bummed out I don't have enough money to regain what I've lost. I can't train and a lot of friends have quit for the school year.
I'm considering returning to my level 52 ice/lightning wizard in Scania (I'm currently in Mardia) and transferring my ranger's z-helm to him. I do have a level 75 ranger in Scania...but I practically fail at training him. It's a possibility...but I really don't know.
I was hoping the Southperry community could help me decide whether to try and somehow continue on my Night Walker-- or cut my loses and return to my ranger or ice/lightning.

I'd go back to the ranger, practice on him. I mean if he gets to bowmaster you won't regret it.

You didn't really lose that much... Do some scroll quests or whatever, you'll make it back up.
Don't bother giving an I/L mage a zhelm, at that point it's just a waste of $3 that the scissors cost. If anything, sell the zhelm for money if you decide to play that server.
If you enjoy your NW, though, which you seem to do, stay there and make the money back. Again, yeah, it sucks to lose everything, but you can make back what you lost with relative ease. Just make sure your information is changed, all of it, and find how you originally got hacked in the first place, so that it doesn't happen again.

That sucks, bro. I haven't been hacked yet, so I guess I can't really give you any of that "I've been there" advice, but I can give you a good idea as to what I'd probably do if I lost everything. Raise up 10m and use it to buy a Store Permit. AFK all day; make monies on MS while you enjoy playing other games, devoting more time to school, etc, and when you feel motivated to play MS again, you can stop playing FM Story and start up a new character. Another option is waiting until a new server is released, and start from scratch.
Spending a half hour or so each day scanning the FM is more profitable than you'd think, and once you get into it, it's not as boring as it looks. It's an easy way to make money, and when you've got dat cash money, the game overall just becomes more enjoyable.

This. You couldn't believe how much I've made with my 30 month hired merchant and a little time in the FM. Right now I'm not even into the "training groove" because I'm waiting for some more x2 EXP events so I decided to try merchanting. I started at 40 million, after a week of merchanting I'm sitting on 263 million in mesos and 70 million ins scrolls. You didn't really lose that much. I'd say just do what Greg said, whenever you feel motivated to come back, at least you'll have some money to do what you'd like.

I assume that you already performed virus and spyware checks to see if a keylogger was the cause of this right? Because that's the first thing that you should do, to prevent that from happening again. After that, once you dealt with the keylogger, change your PW/PIN. Yeah I know this is common sense, but it doesn't hurt to remind you about this.

Losing a level 7x, let alone a Knight of Cygnus isn't a big deal. I know leechers who do that in one day...But still it was your char.
I would make a new safer account if I were you.

Stop rubbing it in.
I'd suggest the Ranger, or, like me, quit Maple for a while til you get over the whole hacking thing. When I got hacked, playing Maple reminded me of it, so I stopped for a while, but I returned when I felt like it.

EDIT: I'd say play on your I/L for a while and get together some mesos and slowly re-equip your NW.

If you want to continue your NW, get some fairly cheap equips, then work you way back to the top. Or you can do it on your ranger and then buy items for your NW

Karma the Z-Helm in Scania and sell it off. Exchange those mesos for some NX, and then use the NX on your Mardian character.
To be honest, you can train fairly well with just a Garnier and Subis. Yeah, yeah, you won't be able to kill Windraiders efficiently, but you can still get some experience here and there. If I were you, I'd go bossing (Mushmom, Zombie Mushmom). It's fun, and you may get some nifty drops.

I got hacked and lost everything, clean. Started rebuilding and got stronger than I was in 2 weeks.
It was mad days of Rog hunting with a pair of Green Skis I had lying around in mts on a mule account. HT hbmule helped lots too but I guess that's not your option.
If you're serious about getting back up, you can start from poking snails, buy a garner and subis and start hunting ZMM. It's not that hard seeing as you have maxed FJ.

even if your pass is 123456 hackers dont get that even that easily
you got hacked from keylogging for sure i guess...
best maple story sources that r safe r youtube strategywiki official site and forums.
dont enter suspicious links from forums..
and keep safety information from anyone... and change password once in a while

You can rebuild yourself.
When I got hacked around lvl 100, the hacker practically took everything from me save for a couple sets of tobis and a 36 blue rab I found a WS a lil' bit before then. That alone was enough to get me started on working my funds back up and even outpower what I originally had. If I can do it, you can do it too.
