Dark Crystals Creating Negative Stat Items? - Sn1perJohnE - 2009-08-28

Ok, just a few mins ago, my friend made a LVL 60 pirate overall using a basic dark crystal, the clean stats of it came out to be 3 STR and 0 DEX. Disappointed, my friend went to 100% scroll the overall to at least have 10 DEX for the time being. Upon adding all 10 scrolls though, the overall came out to be 9 DEX a-@.

Has this happened to anyone else? Cause thats a pretty messed up thing to have happen, though it is only a temp overall, it still isnt a normal thing to have a negative effect while scrolling an item like that.

Completely unedited image. As you can see, its +10, and only 9 dex. When he made it, he said that the Basic Dark Crystal only took 2 from each, but then it came out like this.

o_o wow
Just wondering if the clean overall gave you negative stats while wearing the item? Stunned
And are you sure the overall is +10?

Dark Crystals Creating Negative Stat Items? - Deviant - 2009-08-28

Thats weird, does it say +10 and have the 9 stats, or say +9?

Dark Crystals Creating Negative Stat Items? - JoeTang - 2009-08-28

Maybe he put a DEF 100% in there and is trolling you.

Dark Crystals Creating Negative Stat Items? - Russt - 2009-08-28

Well, it's possible that the code simply didn't check that it would come out nonnegative. Negative stats on items don't show up.

He didn't look at the result after one scroll? (I suppose that's kind of normal, there isn't much to look at with NPC-buyable 100% scrolls)

The SS ill post later has it as +10, and its unhammered (lol whod hammer a lvl 60 overal to 100% it :S)

See Above. And yes, it has 9 dex, SS later.

Pretty sure, he isnt the kind of person to do that. He had bought the scrolls in bundle as well, so it had to be negative to get the outcome.

Negative stats are possible, but well undocumented. I've never heard of it happening before.

i think the real question is, why would it be +10. if you went +1 with a 100%, and it had no effect, wouldn't you stop and be curious as to what the hell is going on?

If you went +1 with a 100%, and had 9 others in your inventory, there's virtually no reason you'd stop and look at your item before applying the rest.

When I 100% something, I don't check the stats as I go because I already know the end result. Anyways, Get the SS I wunna see.

if this is true, i hope can range to positive stats too xD.

but ya really weird, theres no possibility he used a DEF scroll? cause looking the image the DEF is 65 what is the average... and seems he got 2 negative stats in all the attributes, wouldnt that affect the DEF too ? and the def scroll would increase the DEF stats for the original value?

Dark Crystals Creating Negative Stat Items? - Beaner - 2009-08-28

thats messed up, i is scared of making overalls now

IIRC, the amount the stats are affected by the Dark Crystals is different for every stat.

I wouldn't worry too much, if you got unlucky enough to get negative stats, chances are it would suck enough that you wouldn't want to scroll it anyways.

Does anybody know a good item to experiment with about this? Like with a black crystal on something with low defense?

Without a stimulator, the stats are still randomized, and can be below average - throwing in dark crystals just increases the opportunity for mayhem.

I'd guess the dark crystal went -2 to all stats (from 5/1 to 3/-1), the def isn't affected by dark crystals...

I would test this out if I didn't value my dark crystals at 3mil each... I can't waste that kind of cash.

Indeed. For example I just made another 110 overall in hopes of using these 60% GM scrolls on it using an Adv Dex, Adv Str, and Adv DC. The DC took away 4 Dex, 4 Str, 4 Def, and gave me back 1 avoid Tongue Mad Frown.

No more concern for GM scrolling for me this month, thanks.

And I don't think any Maker-able items (all above level 50) would have def that low to start with.

Dark Crystals Creating Negative Stat Items? - TøbiasBlack - 2009-08-28

dude, thats sick... in a bad way...

kinda hesitant to forge my dark neos pants now. o-o granted, my maker is only 2, so its not much of a risk for me, as i cant use dark/black crystals yet... still dude, that sucks.

Ouchie.

Maybe not defense, but you could do it with other stats. Gold Brists, for example, give 1 accuracy, and all Elf Shoes give 1 avoid. Both of these stats can be 100%ed, and you only need black crystals for it, so it makes things quite a bit cheaper. You could even take any old 80+ shoe and put both a basic opal and a black crystal on it.

Why are people getting so scared about this? Anything that ends up with negative stats (as in, 0) really isn't worth scrolling in the first place.

@ TobiasBlack: You can use black/dark crystals with level 2 maker.

Dark Crystals Creating Negative Stat Items? - LittlePrincess - 2009-08-28

But we can't really know for sure because just from the SS there's no way to prove that one scroll wasn't a 100% def or 100% str.
