Nexon America announced a record-breaking month of growth throughout its portfolio of games in July, and posted a huge 35 percent increase in revenues when compared to the same time last year.

Leading the way for Nexon America’s growth is its blockbuster hit MapleStory, a massively multiplayer online role playing game. MapleStory set a new record in July, with more than 70,000 max concurrent users. This marks continued growth for the North American service, which has more than six million registered users and is part of MapleStory’s 92 million total worldwide.

While most of the video games industry has been mired with losses this year – the NPD Group reported industry revenues dropped 29 percent for July compared to July of 2008, Nexon America has been aggressively marketing its products with a positive result.

“The economy has been tough on great deal of the games industry, but we fought hard to retain our customers and to bring in as many new players as possible,” said Min Kim, Nexon America’s vice president of marketing. “We’re heavily investing on all fronts -- in our games, our publishing platform, aggressive marketing efforts as well as customer service. The best news for Nexon America is that our success isn’t just reflected in registered users, but in actual, dramatic revenue growth.”

In July, Nexon America conducted a marketing campaign for its fantasy MMOG, Mabinogi, with advertising across the internet. Nexon America also ran a major television campaign for and included commercials before blockbuster movies in theaters during July. A campaign for its popular first-person shooter, MapleStoryCombat Arms, is currently underway.

Also, during the last week of July, Nexon America added major content updates to MapleStory, Mabinogi and Combat Arms, and plans to launch Dungeon Fighter Online later this year. Nexon also announced its plans for Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), which will mark the company’s first major involvement in a consumer trade show. Nexon will continue to lead the way in the free-to-play gaming market in the coming months with an aggressive rebranding initiative called BlockParty, which will unite Nexon America’s games and players together in a way never before achieved in the North American market.

“We are serious about making Nexon the top brand in online gaming, and we are not backing on down our efforts to deliver more content to our customers or aggressively work to attract new players,” said Kim. “We pioneered the free-to-play business model when we brought MapleStory to North America in 2005. With the slew of new games we have planned and the BlockParty initiative, which will bring players together like never before, we will continue to be the leader in this market for years to come.”

Nexon Wrote:Well you see, it's all in the updates. Lately we have added even MORE game breaking Cash Shop content. This causes a massive flurry of insecure little damage whores coming to the Cash Shop to just snap them up. Not to mention our release of item locks, items that should be free, during the great hacker scare, playing off the fears of the very same insecure little damage whores. Having them expire was even more genius of us. Also the, additions of new types of super megaphones, allowing useless little failure-at-life trolls to become as much as three times as annoying! The Miwok event was also a winner, promising people great items if they buy from the Cash Shop. Truth be told, we only posted the good stuff from them on our website, and getting them is like finding a needle in a haystack of garbage, but don't tell the Maplers

Also, our success is also in the technical side of things. Why bother hiring competent programmers when we can just take a few idiots off the street? You'd be surprised how little people who can't even tell time will work for. And they come with an added bonus, sometimes their programming is SO bad that they leave massive errors in game dynamics that are just open for exploitation. For instance, we at Nexon love Bishops, so we decided to wait over a year before fixing the "elemental weapons" so they gave the disadvantage to them. But it was no disadvantage to us, not with all those hundreds of Bishops buying hundreds of Gachapon tickets to get them. We just thought we'd throw the poor, useless Arch Mages a bone and fix them when the money stream started to run a little dry. The Vicious' Hammer was another great idea. Opening up the chance for a 52 stats HT pendant was a wonderful business decision for us, as the previously mentioned insecure little damage whores flocked to them in RECORD numbers! But when the money stream again runs dry, we're thinking about fixing them, giving absolutely no compensation and handing out a few false bans. Who knows, we may end up deleting pendants all together and putting them in the Cash Shop We also like to cut costs by keeping our server qualities low and refusing to do anything about massive lag in certain worlds. Then there are our lovely GMs. All 2 or 3 of them. They do a wonderful job of keeping our games safe. Ignoring hackers, shrugging off people in need, completely ignoring requests for help from people we have majorly screwed over. The best part is they work for cheap!

And THAT is how we do it. And despite the horrible service we deliver, they still keep coming back for more!

i HATE this company with a passion D: lol

it amazes me how they continue to offer such crap support for their biggest product (maplestory), yet put so much focus into other projects that bomb (kart rider, audition, sugar rush) or games that are difficult to make money off of (combat arms, mabinogi). they really have nothing coming thats going to take off like maple (DFO and dragons nest will be two more bombs).
