If I had a total of 85 Dex, and had a 5 Str Casa Crow, I could possibly borrow some equips, equip the crow, unequip the borrowed ones, and then the Crow will give me enough Str to equip itself, right?

No. An item can only be equipped (or maintained) if you would have enough stats to equip it, without the item equipped.

Yes, that works. As of... June 2009, when I saw a friend do it. I don't know if they fixed it yet.
