No not at all. Amethyst is a jewel. I am not sure where you got this idea from! If all other towns were named vaguely like jewels then maybe this logic would stand, but that's not the case and yeah. Amherst definitely has nothing to do with Amethyst.

What does any of that have to do with Amherst? Amherst isn't a precious purple town. It's not a town full of drunkards being protected by their jewels. Looking the same =/= being the same.
