I finally got to play Castle Crashers. - IllegallySane - 2009-06-11

Despite weeks of anticipation when I found out my friend planned to get it, it was as fun as I have expected it to be. There were three of us, and picked the Red Knight (friend who had the 360), Green Knight (second friend), and Blue Knight (me). Nothing like old-school fun. Way more amusing than the Gauntlet games. We spent a good 4-5 hours just playing, but had to stop when it was almost midnight. It' been a while since I played such an amusing multi-player game (the other amusing multi-player games would have to be Metal Slug and the arcade House of the Deads).

There's only one problem I found with the game, thought it amusingly worked towards my favor. Perhaps it's because we've only just beaten Frenchy and gained access to the Alien Hominid level, but the defense stat is sooo unbelievably strong. When we first leveled, we decided on who will focus on what stats (essentially defining our roles). Red Knight was going to invest everything into Magic (glass cannon), Green Knight was mixing it up with mainly Agility, and spare points into Strength (hit and run glass cannon). Blue Knight was to focus only on Defense (tank).

Somewhere after the 3rd or 4th stage, we were all noticing how hard it was for me to die. Especially during huge waves of enemies, it's usually me as the sole survivor, basically taking everything thrown at me while I mow the enemies down, reviving my friends afterward. It eventually became really noticeable when I was soloing 2 of the bosses. They included the huge Catfish hocking hairballs, and the huge 7 part machine controlled by Frenchy.

Dying was really common for my two friends, and I usually end up reviving them a good dozen times per stage in total; that doesn't even include the times my friends spent reviving the other. But of course, monsters and especially bosses die way faster when my friends are alive and moving. It's just really amusing that because my friends keep dying, I currently have a 4-5 level lead since I can take anything the stage sends at me, whittling away for EXP. There's also something really amusing when a 75% revival brought me back to life with over 600 hit points (probably almost 1k HP now since I maxed Defense). Bricks were shat, since my friends barely have about 150 hit points at max, and they are usually resurrected with 90ish to 130ish HP. You can already guess who wins when there are Arena fights. Shine

Red Knight is pretty cool since my friend is 2 points away from maxing his magic stat. Nothing like a long lightning range for massive mob damage, and Green Knight is bloody fast since my friend can essentially run circles around us, and shoots fast with a bow like nobody's business.

Granted my magic really blows (no points invested into Magic) since the range is literally melee range and that it eats up a ton of magic just to use it once (70% of my MP for one cast), but it doesn't really matter when I can tank anything, effectively keeping my friends alive by batting the enemies away while they annihilate whatever moves.

Overall though, I really enjoy playing Castle Crashers. Kudos to Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp for making such an awesome old school style game that plays wonderfully with multiple players. Biggrin

I'd been meaning to get this, and you just cemented that decision. Plan on playing a solo Blue Knight maxing Magic first after defense for the epic freezing.

My friend got this, and we spent six or something hours through the night to beat it. I was pure Magic Blue Knight. pomegranate sucked hard. At the end of the night, I was level 17, and the other two guys were 23 and 21 because I couldn't hit enough times to gain exp. Against bosses, I did fair damage and got alright exp because I could multihit with my RT+Y but against normal monsters, I'd only be able to hit once with it to freeze despite seven bolts coming down so I got pomegranate exp. And I died really easily so I couldn't run in and juggle everything.

Anyways. One of them went Pure Attack, and then started working on Defense, and the other maxed Attack and Magic. Neither of them ended up dying nearly as much as me because they could kill everything so fast with their physical or magic, so I usually ended up dying the most. Neither of them really needed the extra Defense though it helped a bit in the end. I don't know why your friends died so often.

Changed my mind, I like the Poison guy better. Going with a Defense/Magic hybrid. Get Magic to a decent level, then just tank hits while enemies die from the poison Big Grin

You cant exactly count 12 deaths as THAT many. They kept dying BECAUSE when trying to revive them sometimes speedy revives were in order, so they come back to life only to be knocked out again. This was pretty prevalent when there were lack of food in the stage, or during boss fights.

Also, none of us invested into Strength. Green Knight had at most 4-6 points into it. I've only started putting points into Strength since I maxed out Defense.
