How exactly does it work? It seems a bit too powerful for its cost given by its description, compared to things like self 30-minute 2x exp, when you could give the same to 6 others for less than half the price.
Also, can you use family bonding on another one of your own characters on the same account under you in the family then switch to that character and have it in effect?

you need to gather 6 (direct?) family members to use it which makes it fairly painful

Above. You, both juniors, and all 4 of your junior's juniors ALL have to be on. Not too hard during 2x events, and if you guys trust each other, just get on your friend's account for bond if you need X person on.
And no, all 6 have to be on at the same time to use bond.
