What happened to Nexon? - Locked - 2012-06-11

I don't think anyone here who hasn't played in 2004-2005 is allowed to speak about what the Wizet/Nexon relationship is or ever was.

Fun fact, here's something from the stickied thread:
Quote:Q) How did Nexon America begin and what exactly is Wizet’s relationship to Nexon? What is Wizet’s current status?
A) Nexon America is Nexon Corporation’s North American publishing and game service arm. We started with the localization of MapleStory for North America, and have grown to support multiple game launches in North America. Wizet is the developer of MapleStory and also a subsidiary of Nexon Corporation. The Wizet team continues to develop and add content to MapleStory around the world.

Wizet has always been a part of Nexon. Wizet is a developer. Nexon is a publisher. That's the major key difference here.

IImaplers Wrote:How is it an impossible scenario (at this point at least)? Propositions:

For preventing in-game map/item/meso/NX hacking:
-Hire 100+ American workers to be competent GMs. Your budget can easily handle it.
Most hacking is done in secret and not on mains, while it will stop most botting for items/at lhc you can't stop it all
-Test your content thoroughly (hire more if needed). It's due to them not testing whatsoever that exploit after exploit has been arising.
It has been said multiple times that not every bug pops up on their test servers and even then if you have 100 people testing for 24hrs, you have thousands playing when it is live
-Slow down content patches and instead focus on security patches, and using resources on bargain pitfalled hackshield companies does not qualify.
If they slow down content a lot of people will quit, only thing keeping some people is X class coming or X boss
-Make Code server-sided and/or recode the game in Java and hook it to the same database. Again, their budget can handle this.
They should do this
-Afraid you'll lose players if you shut the game down for 1-2 months to improve it? Release an alternate game which offers link skills or some other variant to help your characters while they cannot be accessible.
They can't even run one game competently and you want them to run another?

For account hacking prevention/security:
-Free item locks. This should come standard.
Look at harrison's case, and I pass along all my gear between multiple accounts
-Allow the option of cell phone text verification before logging in. If they can allow texting verification for paypal payments, they can do the same for logging in.
GMS isn't just in america, and not every1 has texting or a cell
-Allow optional IP tracking (an option to make sure it is you who is logging in and where that is). Sure, IPs can be spoofed but this will probably weed out the script kiddies at least.
I have 4 people I share accounts with/I'm sure other people do the same to some degree
-characters over a certain level (18x+?) should not be delete-able (end-dateable yes, but not delete-able).
-make game pay-to-play. This will make all users less anonymous and easier for cheaters to get caught.
You can't make a game p2p and p2w most of the allure to MS is that it is FREE nobody would buy maple it is a horrible glitchy mess, and when you lose 1/2 ur player base the other half will get bored
This is all completely feasible for a company with millions to spend.

I prefer the more blunt;

Quote:We were Wizet and NX Games until we finally became Nexon America. It’s funny how people talk about how different things were during the early days when Wizet was around, but Nexon America has always been pretty much the same people doing the same things under a new logo. When the site changes to BlockParty.com, we’ll probably hear about how much people miss Nexon America.

When Blizzard still can't rid of all botters in WoW and Diablo, you know it's an impossible scenario for Nexon lol.
You can make countless suggestions, but no company can fully prevent hacking / botting.

Where did I say otherwise?
yo72 Wrote:It has been said multiple times that not every bug pops up on their test servers and even then if you have 100 people testing for 24hrs, you have thousands playing when it is live
Again, never do I mention this to be untrue. Point is: More testers are better than none. When people reported certain skills not working right in Tespia and then those same skills preceeded to not work right in the live servers, this shows the company to be irreverent about the process of testing and/or that GMs/Developers do not test at all.
yo72 Wrote:f they slow down content a lot of people will quit, only thing keeping some people is X class coming or X boss
Up until lately, people have been quitting solely DUE to the company's incompetence, and I'd bet it was at a similar rate as would be if content slowed down. Then again, to argue against your point, I've noticed lots of people coming back after months/years to play a newly added class. People are more patient than given credit for. In a scenario where a new class would be added after 1-2 months of downtime, if the fixes are substantial, less people would be quitting from that point on.
yo72 Wrote:They can't even run one game competently and you want them to run another?
Nope, not really. They can sponsor an already-existing game managed by some other company.
yo72 Wrote:Look at harrison's case, and I pass along all my gear between multiple accounts
I have no idea about Harrison, and not being able to pass along gear through accounts should be a minor inconvenience. Every war has casualties.
yo72 Wrote:GMS isn't just in america, and not every1 has texting or a cell
Oh jeez, I completely understood this when making my statements. That's why I said it should be 'optional'.
yo72 Wrote:I have 4 people I share accounts with/I'm sure other people do the same to some degree
Tough cakes. That's their/your problem. Sharing accounts is an easy-enough sacrifice for overall better security.
yo72 Wrote:You can't make a game p2p and p2w most of the allure to MS is that it is FREE nobody would buy maple it is a horrible glitchy mess, and when you lose 1/2 ur player base the other half will get bored
It is already P2W. Making it P2P would solidify their players. And I never said it has to be expensive. It can be a mere 3 bucks a month for security sake. And I don't think they will lose half of the player-base, maybe 20% (and it'll include hackers and those who have never spent a penny on the game in the first place). They have nothing to lose by doing this.

I'm not keen on WoW and Diablo, but I do know that Blizzard gives an exponential amount more in effort to try fixing their problem than does Nexon, and botters aren't nearly as bad as dupers or account hackers.

No matter how many testers you have exploits will be found, and most gamebreaking glitches are fixed from tespia to patch

Harrison had a perma lock on his overall, when he ticketed nexon to take it off his gear came with an expiration date, Stereo only makes mostly warriors because he can transfer his gear between all his characters to say that the storage should now be useless for security is stupid.

Nexon themselves said when they were recruiting for jr GMs they don't care about account sharing, a lot of people in maple do it just because you don't doesn't affect anything, and have fun playing when ur IP is changed for whatever reason

Having 3k nx on ur account/ur credit card for that monthly payment is just stupid and a lot of people won't continue to play if that happens

Gold selling is worse in WoW then MS, and accounts get hacked just as often but Blizz responds because they are REQUIRED to because if they didn't it would be illegal

Botting and hacking are not even remotely the same thing.

Hacking is changing the rules of the game.
Botting is playing the game automatically.

The game is made to be played. there is virtually no way to stop a game from being botted, because all a bot does is what the game itself is intended for.

Preventing abuse of the game is very possible.

Of course, the Maplestory botters are all hacking, if they weren't, they probably would only be a tenth as productive, and meso:nx rate wouldn't be quite as horrible.

Yes, but is pretty much a side effect of Nexon/Wizet/Whoever-you-want-to-call-them's bad client side programming choices.

Not indicative of a relationship between botting and hacking.

My first ticket was submitted in October of 2011 for being hacked. My 2nd ticket was only submitted about 3 days ago. I got my reply, and was awarded with 250k nx. http://puu.sh/Al5j I will post the ss of the ticket if anyone wants

I'd like to know the average character level of these accounts. They're giving random ass MP, some barely lost crap and get 250k, some lost more and get 100k. I wonder if they're doing it based on character levels.

Character lv, nx spent on acct, time acct has existed?
Trying a bit of science, lying about getting hacked on 16x shad acct made 8months ago, and a different 200 hero acct made several years ago, shad has about 75k on record, hero has at least $1000 maybe $2000 on record

Yeah, i'm not sure why they compensated me THAT much. But i'm not complaining.

I think I deserved more honestly, bc I've spent more than 600k nx on the account before it was hacked. Also I went from like 80k range (pre-legendary) to like 5k

And this is exactly why I don't expect this compensation to be around for very long. If they find out you're lying I hope they punish you in some form. Honestly.

A perma ban of accounts his IP has been on(since he admitted sharing) would be just, imo. Nothing against sharing accounts, but lying about being hacked. <_<
