Guild Wars 2 - SuperNerd - 2012-06-10 Me and my friend reached level 25 last night and it's been fantastic. We got to do one of the skill point jump quests, which was quite entertaining. We also got to fight in our first world boss; it was some HUGE demon, shadow thing that comes out of the swamp and opens portals to the underworld to release minions. It was so cool to see something like that in a MMORPG. Didn't get a lot of good loot, though. I've been enjoying my Guardian quite a lot. My main weapon set is 1H Sword + Torch, with a huge set of fire attacks and spells so I can constantly keep the opponent(s) on fire for DoT. I made a second character, a Thief, but I dunno... I haven't been enjoying it very much. It's been kinda hard getting used to only being able to use my other moves with Initiatives, which drastically makes killing slower, not to mention I'm so frail I die in almost 3-4 hits ANYWHERE. Unless I can find some redeeming qualities with the class, I don't think I'll be playing it much longer. Still saving the Engineer class for the game's actual release, and I'm not changing my mind about that (Asura Engineer). But if the Thief doesn't work out, I don't know what else to try. Ranger doesn't seem like it'd do too well, cause the enemies all come charging at you with one ranged attack, so I don't know how you're supposed to keep damaging, while also running from the impending doom... and I've never been one to do Magician-based classes; and I don't want to do Warrior, cause that's what my friend is. Guild Wars 2 - raizoo - 2012-06-11 Corn stinx. Got to lvl48. Did not realize how much exp could be gained from WvWvW ― it's ridiculous. Some guy got to lvl65, too, and shares my ideas. Lvl 1~30 through PvE if you're unable to WvWvW consistently and then more WvWvW. There are also skill points in WvWvW. Also, explorable mode for Ascalon Catacombs is BS. SuperNerd Wrote:Unless I can find some redeeming qualities with the class, I don't think I'll be playing it much longer. What weapons are you using? My friend likes his thief and hasn't been dying that much. I know he loves using short bow. iirc, devs said they are/have been tweaking thieves as well. Quote:Ranger doesn't seem like it'd do too well, cause the enemies all come charging at you with one ranged attack, so I don't know how you're supposed to keep damaging, while also running from the impending doom...Pets. Their AI is really derpy still, but they're what makes a Ranger a Ranger in this game. Bears are easily the best pets in PvE, especially since Drakes got nerfed with Ranger trait changes. Also, who cares if you're the same class as your friend. Warriors have the biggest pool of weapons to choose from and I'm sure your utility skills will be different. Every Engineer I've seen has been doing something different. I think I'm the only one I've seen using the bomb kit. ;x Guild Wars 2 - SuperNerd - 2012-06-11 Meh, I just feel like if you're adventuring with someone, it's best to have different classes, to cover your bases better. It's proven pretty good with him being a Warrior and me being a Guardian--he deals a ton of damage, but he's incredibly frail, and while I don't deal a lot of regular damage, I can deal a ton of non-stop conditional damage with the fire attacks, plus I can tank hits like no other. He dies a lot, so I usually have to finish off the opponents he softened up, and helping him back up. On the Thief I was using a Sword + Dagger for the main weapon set and Pistol + Pistol for the secondary set. Like I said, the thing I just cannot get used to is requiring the Initiative to simply use my moves. I find myself jumping in doing a few good damaging moves, and then having to kite around for like 20 seconds for it to refill to keep using moves like Death Blossom and all. I did try a Ranger, and it was pretty cool. I didn't get too far on it, though. We found some more hidden jump quests while exploring and they were sweet. One was in a cave that we thought was just empty as it looks to be nothing in it, but enemies. But with a little hidden and strategic parkouring, you get to a whole different part of the cave with treasure chests and all. Then we found the Abandoned Observatory jump quest--hoo boy, that was awesome, but so terrifying. One wrong move and you plummet to your death instantly. I love that about this game, you are just exploring and a little curiosity turns into finding a completely hidden area you otherwise would have never known about. Guild Wars 2 - Corn - 2012-06-11 Finale was epic. It was totally worth staying up until 3 am to get turned into an immortal zombie that's trying to turn everyone else into an immortal zombie, even if it was delayed. Just realized how epic the Charr area is. I've done little exploring outside of Tyria because I want to save it for the game release, but I needed to go there for the finale. So I'm staring at the city, and then I compare it to Tyria, and I'm like "No wonder why humans are almost extinct." Can't wait until I explore the Norn and Asura and Sylvari regions =D. Plus, I'll be able to level a lot more easily now. It's slightly annoying wandering around Tyria trying to find events to do that are my level (WvW is slow 1-30 apparently). Didn't realize I could just pop into another region and do all the quests there, ha. I'm 99% going to roll with Longbow/Greatsword Ranger. Traits and utility skills are a bit iffy. Hope this game comes out soon. Tell me your IGNs when it comes out please. Guild Wars 2 - Malthe - 2012-06-11 Yea, with the guest system SP can easily play together regardless of servers. Gon' be gud. There are other people you can randomly group up with in the world. And no, Warriors are not frail. They have a lot of interrupting skills and some other movement skills like leaping. Melee is a lot more difficult to learn in this game, but that's the tradeoff for not being able to run around in circles and kite. Once you get traits to help you with melee weapons, they'll start to look more appealing. The problem that your friend is probably having is not being able to see the visual cues of when to dodge, which is understandable. Some are very obvious, like a giant stomping the ground, because of the long cast time. Quote:Like I said, the thing I just cannot get used to is requiring the Initiative to simply use my moves. Like doing some blind rotation? A lot of my friends seem to be stuck with the typical MMO setup/mindset and are having trouble when they shouldn't be. Quote:I did try a Ranger, and it was pretty cool. I didn't get too far on it, though. They have quite the job to do with Rangers. Jon Peters Wrote:Rangers are missing 3 utility skills. All 3 are ones that give you some interesting control over your pet. So first of all they are just short 3 skills. Secondly they are one of many professions who need a good strong balance pass on their utilities to bring the bad ones in line. I think right now the professions with the strongest utils are Warrior, Elementalist and Guardian. We will work to catch the others up before ship. And I think they're going to be doing a lot of work on them for BWE3. Guild Wars 2 - DrRusty - 2012-06-18 has anyone heard anything about a release date yet? I saw that you can preorder the game already on the guild wars website. Guild Wars 2 - raizoo - 2012-06-18 You pre-purchase from the site, you pre-order from other retailers. Anyway, you could pre-purchase since early April. There's no release date yet. There is going to be another Beta Weekend Event, but nothing else has been said. There's a lot of things they need to polish up. Other things they're planning [ fishing, multiple trait builds, etc ] won't come out until after release. Guild Wars 2 - Chameleonic - 2012-06-19 Nice to see Crystin Cox now ruining another game... http://www.gamebreaker.tv/mmorpg/guild-wars-2-colorful-opinions/ Guild Wars 2 - DrRusty - 2012-06-19 raizoo Wrote:You pre-purchase from the site, you pre-order from other retailers. I was thinking about pre-purchasing so I can learn the game/get some experience before release. Good idea or no? I'd rather spend that 20$ on stuff I'd want, like more bank space. plz2buy directly from their website! :3 If you plan to play in the future, I don't see why not. Just keep in mind GW2 isn't meant to be played like WoW or GW1. A lot of people seem.... lost when playing this game. Collectible's edition might be worth it if you're a heavy Guild Wars 2 fan. Deluxe...eh. The only reason you'd get the Deluxe would be the elite skill for bragging rights. You oughta pre-purchase at least the Standard edition if you're going to play the actual game. Same cost, yet more stuff, plus you can see what class you want to play in the real version (it took me 2 beta weekends for me to decide, and only then, I'm only 95% certain).
