Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-07

Actually that's what he said if you had paid attention. To you it is subjective, but to others it may not be. Need to read a little more into it dude, and who I choose to champion is my business.

Sometimes when you read something, you need to read more into it to find it's true meaning.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Herborist - 2010-12-07

You're extremely ignorant and proud of it. I haven't been so disgusted by another person in a long time.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-07

Then why don't you blame society for creating open cesspools where things like free speech, open debate, and difference of opinion thrive and people can have difference of opinion, free speech, and debate ideas in a public setting, or that too much for you to grasp hold of with your narrow minded view of people? Why don't you gather an army, march forth across the world, crush freedom, hope, and liberty and create a state of total control where mindless drones have nothing of the aforementioned and do your bidding in absolute. However it is hard for someone with an open mind such as me and others here to deal with someone with a sociopathic or psychopathic nature who simply refuses to acknowledge the fact they can't stand the thought of anyone else being correct, remotely correct, partially correct, or have any level of correctness at all even politically.

You sir need not be disgusted of others but ashamed of yourself for your own forced simplicity, ignorance, and narrowed point of view as well as the actions you have taken. Only someone with an absurd level of foolishness and discontent with people and society would dare to claim they are better than someone else, if you read into the words you have so chosen to use with care and consideration, or claim they are hold someone in contempt of differing beliefs. You are the one who has subjectively derailed the topic where we were not stating ANYTHING about Big Bang, but more so the collective consciousness of the broad base of the work and effort ethics of those who play and the narrowed points of view people have tried to enforce upon them, into something where people started talking about Big Bang.

The originating topic I started on and was debating was about how people want things with such ease and don't want to work for anything even if requiring the most minimal of effort and how Nexon is catering to that nature now. How basically a change is dynamics such as the new EXP curve is catering to the player who does not care for the game but only wants to get a high level character, then quit and move on to something else, and how reasonably minded players had vastly different ideas to promote content for high level players and keep interests alive for the game without a vast amount of sacrifice into dumbing things down. That was the debate, and here it is thanks to preservation by SwordStalker:

Quote:People who chose to leech to their levels and jobs never earned them nor should they have any right or reason to influence the game which they clearly have. In short, I think he has FULL right to invalidate anyone who so rightly deserves the title of trash. It doesn't matter if the character is yours or not. Using shortcuts to gain power makes you literally one thing that could be agreed upon on a lot of Maple distributions. A Noob.

Seriously, what have you accomplished if you have gained everything with minimal effort? Absolutely nothing.

(I'll gladly accept a warning on this next comment... so if it offends you... up yours)

There have always been alternatives for everyone in the game to get levels and play but people were too stupid and whiny to utilize them all. Many people who do nothing but ABC whine that they spent so much time getting to Level XYZ. We have had plenty of things to do but problem is people like to listen to bad information and then follow that information as if it's a bible.

Maybe if people would apply themselves more, be a little more open, and not confine themselves to a set groove in the road we would have never had this problem to begin with. Saying something is too anything (difficult, time consuming, etc.) maybe is a sign you need to try a bit harder like the guy who did get ahead.

You were the one who started in on how YOU were House personified going off topic again to push a poke into my signature. Reality check, House in the show suffered from paranoid delusional psychosis brought on by years of abusing pain killers in which he thought he had relations with Cuddy and went blurting out mad rants in the hospital without merit about what he did when in actuality he was nothing more than a staggering zombie roaming his apartment seeking his next fix on drugs, only later to end up forcing himself to be placed in a mental institution. Need I go back up and grab a quote from the first paragraph? I think not.

Now do I need to go on or can we please get back to the topic?

This is a serious waste of time of whoever gets the last word.

Saying Maplestory isn't about leveling is like saying Gaia Online isn't about social interaction because there is a slew of other things you can do besides socially interact. While one person may find joy in doing the merchanting, walking, exploring, and social activities, this is not the primary objective of the game. All mmo's have social-based communities and that's why they are called ''massive multiplayer online''. However, an RPG is to play the role of the hero that gets stronger and defeats the big bad(and may have a few short differences). What, if I play Final Fantasy 7 just to Chocobo race and explore, does that mean the primary objective of the game changes? NO! You still have the objective of leveling and continueing on with the story. This isn't a matter of opinion, all I'm seeing from post is ''You're not respecting my opinion so I'm going to try to belittle you in the same way and lament on the stupidity of people', this is the attitude of someone in their mid-teens. We get it, you have a boner for hating humanity, this isn't some serious debate. Maplestory, has the PRIMARY OBJECTIVE, of leveling. It has BRANCHING ACTIVITIES that offer various and fun activities to partake in, all games do this, but you can't say Maplestory isn't about leveling. How about we say Mario 64 is about exploring, and not about saving Princess Peach? It just doesn't work, you want to play a game that has the primary objective of exploring? Good luck, I'm sure there are very few out there.

This whole House thing is stupid. House uses insane medical knowlege combined with witty attitude in order to please fans and make people laugh, if ''House'' were here reading this thread, he wouldn't have even bothered to waste time posting his ''logic'' for others to look at, as he would obviously have a lot more important things to do. Having a bad attitude and throwing your ''logic'' around does not make you House, it does not make you seem like House either, especially since, the fact that you find solace in thinking a games objective changes simply because there's content added for players of a different genre is what drives you to reply to this thread.

While it's nice that you guys play Maplestory for other things than leveling, which I can respect, it's not suprising to see them change it into a game that goes back to only focusing on it's prime objective, you made the choice to get screwed over when you played an MMORPG and made special memories of the beautiful maps that they have, having experienced Maplestory in a way that is uncommon to most players doesn't help your arguement at all, and throwing around your hate for society does not make you seem smarter, it makes you look extremely melodramatic.

If we're going to debate about Maplestory's primary objective, we need to stop calling people ignorant, stupid, hypocritical, and other things. If someone does not like the way another person says something on the thread, they have to do one thing, and that is to NOT POST.

To post my personal bias(as most people here using the word ''opinion'' are). I too, have played Maplestory for many other things, getting to level 130 was extremely hard for me back then and it's easy as hell now. There was also some really amazing things I have been able to do in Maplestory that now seem normal, like my first time ever going to the dead mine and seeing actual zombies coming to kill me. Taking a tour down the Eos Tower, exploring Korean Folk Town. It was amazing, especially since I had friends to do it with. I didn't give a crap about leveling, well, I did, but that was for third job. I loved the abilities 3rd jobs gave people, that was new to me, I never played a game where one could teleport through enemies(assaulter) and rocket-jump, throwing spears of lightning and summoning eagles. Maplestory(while being raided with ANNOYING hackers) was grind-heavy, but you could really feel it being worth it. Fighting the gate guardians for the first time was amazing, as was losing to Thanatos because of his resisting of my elements.

I'm not here to say it's wrong to enjoy Maplestory for what you enjoy it for, and I am sorry that you are losing your favored feature of the game. However, I still want to make it clear, that Maplestory has been about leveling, and Big Bang is enforcing that idea. While I am pretty mad about them idiotically changing all kinds of maps for ''convenience'', and while I hate how badly Maplestory had become a massive stat-fest these days, I am still happy for big-bang, and will enjoy it as a new start of Maplestory. I am sorry you will have trouble doign the same.

This is not to say your ideals are wrong, stupid, or minor compared to everyone else. I just want to say, that Maplestory has the primary objective of leveling, but it is true that it isn't something one HAS to go after, nor should have to.

Throwing out my opinion once more, I believe it is more the fact that the people who are arguing against "the point of Maplestory is leveling" instead view it as a means to an end. I agree that the purpose of an RPG is to proceed and defeat the "big bad", however the way this is being applied here is different.

The quests, plot, and bosses that one would level "FOR" have been greatly downgraded in the process of making attaining the levels to get there; along with a great deal of the atmosphere of the game. I'll admit leveling is an essential "aspect" of the game, but that does not make it the "purpose" of the game. Once again, my opinion is that it is flawed generalized logic that has people assuming they have to be level 120+ in the first place in order to experience "any" content of the game and rush through the levels that contain a majority of the content.

Honestly, I played the game since the 2D aspect was unique and that it was fairly engaging when I started. I became what some refer to as a Quest Whore or Quest King, and embraced the content that was held within the game. Again, yes, leveling is a crucial "aspect" of the game, sometimes needed to experience the "content", however it is by no means the "purpose". The purpose varies from person to person. And I personally see sitting around waiting for a number to increase as a pretty sad purpose; but hey, whatever floats your boat.

But hey, I'm standing by my opinion. If the game really is as changed as I think it is where the "content" (from my perspective) has been downgraded to a certain extent, I'll leave. No use senselessly bickering back and forth about it. I'll just stand next to what I say and drop interest.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - cronnoponno - 2010-12-07

While making good points, ''purpose'' is not the word here. ''Primary Objective'' is. A players primary objective can obviously be different, MAPLESTORY'S primary objective is leveling, not the players.

Yet you have done the same thing which makes you wrong also. I admit my opinion is an opinion and not everyone is going to agree with it, but you however haven't admitted that.

If you like faster leveling then, yes, Big Bang will be the greatest thing to you. If you like the look and feel of the game over leveling then, no, Big Bang won't be the greatest thing to you. The key point is that Big Bang is neither good or bad, but just simply a patch.

cronnoponno Wrote:While making good points, ''purpose'' is not the word here. ''Primary Objective'' is. A players primary objective can obviously be different, MAPLESTORY'S primary objective is leveling, not the players.

A game's primary objective changes depending on what the person's primary objective is, a game's primary objective is not set in stone. Unless you have proof of the people who made MapleStory saying that MapleStory's primary objective is leveling, if so, I'll shut up and back off. But otherwise, the primary objective is what the player makes it.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - 0^2 - 2010-12-07

Sounds like some people need to play Animal Crossing. A game with no objective at all. Oh sure you could get the biggest house and all the items but does that get you anything? Nope, just something to pass the time. Unless the game forces you to do something then you don't have to do any particular thing to keep playing. This holds true with almost any game honestly but ESPECIALLY games with exploration and collection.

Unless you have proof of the people who made MapleStory saying that MapleStory's primary objective is leveling, if so, I'll shut up and back off. But otherwise, the primary objective is what the player makes it.

Lets use an FPS as an example. Lets say you're playing a mission, the missions primary objective is to headshot bad guy B in the head on a building, however, you are able to walk around, buy a house, all kinds of other things(Grand Theft Auto would have been an epic example of this). The guy will return to a secluded spot to head-shot him every few minutes in real life time, so there's no rush to kill him. This does not mean the primary objective has changed, you're just prioritizing differently, and you're making your own objective. That does not mean the games objective itself has changed. Although I cannot bring Nexon out and have them say they designed this game for grinding, you can't make them come out and say the same to your opinion...Well, actually, you probably could, but I could argue that Nexon doesn't care anyway, and they'll use any form of lip service to get their pay.

Player objective =/= Game objective =/= Mandatory to do

EDIT: Besides, is BB not enough evidence that they're clearly making the game more linear towards grinding?
EDIT AGAIN: Also, have you not payed attention to how much nexon Bias's stat growth, overpowered jobs, and bulks in new job after job to compensate for the boringness of previous jobs? Part of it is for the money, but in order to make money they have to make their players happy. New stuff to grind for= happy players(majority)...

Bingo bango, MapleStory in a nutshell.

Arguing that MapleStory's primary objective is leveling is silly. The primary objective of MapleStory and any game for that matter is to pass the time. Nothing more nothing else.

cronnoponno Wrote:Player objective =/= Game objective =/= Mandatory to do

The argument you used is flawed however. There is no "mission" in MapleStory, there is nothing you HAVE to do to continue the game. You might argue that you need to level to continue the game, but I can argue that for leveling up to be needed to continue the game there must first be a primary objective that needs you to level.

You want to explore the MapleStory questline? Then you must level to see it all, but this doesn't make leveling the primary objective, it makes it the secondary objective because you're leveling for a reason to see more quests.

Your goal is to boss? Then you must level to beat them, but again this makes leveling a secondary objective to the primary objective of wanting to boss.

You said something about GTA, now tell me, what is the primary objective of that game? To do missions? To continue the storyline? If so, well you need cash and cars to continue to do those things, but is cash and cars the primary objective of GTA? No, they're a means to an end. That is what leveling in MapleStory is, a means to an end. That does not make it the primary objective of MapleStory however.

Each person levels for a different reason, and while leveling is a big part of MapleStory I will admit, it still doesn't mean it's the primary objective of MapleStory. Leveling is like cars and cash in GTA, it carries you so you can do the "missions" and continue the storyline of MapleStory.

In short. Leveling is a big part, yes. But it is not the primary objective of the game by any means.

Ugh, these forums are messing up with my scroll feature, sorry but I can't quote you cause it keeps forcing me to scroll up, there's probably a fix for it, but I'll read for one later.

Anyway, you have a point, leveling is a means to an end. With that I would be willing to agree with you that Maplestory's primary objective isn't leveling. I'm wrong.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - CarrionCrow - 2010-12-07

Silly geese. MapleStory's primary objective is to earn Nexon moolah.

Preparing a disaster kit and time capsule - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-07

The story behind the Black Mage was there to only give MapleStory a sense of depth it had lacked while it was still the focus of a time passing hobby. While seeking out clues on the Black Mage wasn't vital to advancement, it did give you some understanding of the plot attempted by the game for what you were doing. Overall since it's release originally the focus of MapleStory was finding your own path. Some players would become merchants, others would become trend setters, some great leaders, others an unstoppable force. In all no clear goal is actually set for MapleStory. You pick from a collection of things to do if you so choose to, and then try them out making there no real correct way to play the game.

Leveling is but one of nearly thousands of individual goals that are possible in MapleStory and yes Meta you are correct, each player has a choice.

Example: Myself

For me leveling will come as it comes. While my goal is to eventually get to Level 200, my primary goal has been quest completion, so in essence I'm always nowhere near a finished goal. I have yet to beat Horntail and get an egg, defeat Pink Bean, and several other quests I have put off for the pure reason I do not yet have the means to do them. I want to finish them, but I know my limits. For now it's been earn enough money to get newer and better gear from time to time, get restocked on healing items, and press on with training between getting Apples and doing a few repeatable quests.

Would I like to get to 200? It wouldn't hurt but I'm in no rush. I have been able to kill just about everything on my own or with minimal help from friends.
Would I like to make a billion mesos? I actually did once when Elemental Wands first came out by selling an Elemental Wand 5 with superior level stats. The money came and went just as fast as I got it. So money to me has never been an issue unless I can't restock.
Would I like to complete all my quests? Eventually yes but under my own terms and by my own hand if at all possible.

Currently I did get one of my goals done which was acquire a VIP Two-Handed Sword with Potential. Cost me 120mil and was 2 Lined but I earned it. I still have other goals as well. A Chaos Zakum Helmet with Door spell, a Dark Lucida Skirt with Hyper Body, a Reverse Bergamot with Sharp Eyes, Violet Snowshoes with Haste, and possibly a Chaos Horntail Pendant, Dark Lucida Topwear, Blackfist Cloak, Smiling Mask, and Spectrum Goggles all with STR % based stats and 3 VIP Rings as well to max out all my stats and capabilities.

Far flung and impossible goals they might be, but they are goals I'm working towards, slowly. In the meantime it's make friends, quest, stay funded, feed my pet white tiger Rikku, help my guild when possible, and be a polite and honorable gamer to people I meet in game.

I just realized where all of MetaSeraphim's bad logic comes from. He/she is reversing the cause-effect relationship of the situation because his/her priorities lie elsewhere.

Maplestory is an MMORPG, and like all MMORPG's, it facilitates social communication. We don't identify things based on what they have in common, we identify them based on their differences - it's the fundamental aspect of most scientific identification; the 9 taxonomy levels of all biological life on Earth, the periodic table of elements. You don't have to "boss" or reach higher level content, but you do have to level, or otherwise you're sitting at the game's opening map and talking to whoever passes you by.

To do anything in Maplestory, you have to level. Believe it or not, people don't work based on defined long term goals in video games like this. Your immediate goal is to level up.

I'm unsubscribing this thread now. MetaSeraphim's responses are just combative and wrong, now. Ciao.

You're pretty cute for a kid, I am going to admit that. I think we both enjoyed each other over our time together because I know what you have been doing.

Yes, to do things in MapleStory you have to level up, that is exactly what I said. But you first need a reason to level up which is why leveling up isn't the primary objective. You are always leveling for a reason, you are never leveling for the sake of leveling. As I said leveling is a big part of MapleStory, a massive part in fact, yes. The main/only/primary part? No.

Oh, and by the way. You don't know what my priorities for MapleStory is since my priorities are everything MapleStory has to offer.
