I see Nexon is still working hard at killing off the remaining playerbase. Nice to know they didn't stop with just me.
The track record of glitches and exploits and errors that have popped up one after another since the new year started is annoying.
Wigum does have a point though regarding Nexon's responses to their own mistakes, they are VERY inconsistent. Players are forced to pick between playing it safe from banning, running the risk of missing out on something that many other players get to enjoy and feel ripped off ultimately (witch belt/8x exp) Or, try to keep up with other players and end up risking getting banned randomly. The fact that players even need to think like that is pretty messed up.

Not common sense. You're butting into a human nature discussion now. (Yes, I am playing this card). Prices aside, something extremely rare is suddenly common - obviously something fishy is going on. I agree with the conversation up to that point. But whether or not people would take advantage of this "something fishy" (aka abuse) dependently varies from people to people.
The only thing common sense about it was that acknowledging something fishy is going on.

When Nexon is more consistent with who they ban and why. Some hacks or glitches they don't seem to care about or mind. Remember the Nett's pyramid glitch where users could exit with the power buff? Yeah, don't think there were any bans as a result of that. And yet there were bans for glitch OPQ. So which glitches are bad enough to get you banned and which ones aren't?
Granted, it is always 100% safe to stay away from such things, but when the advantage of getting 200 chaos scrolls for $10 outweighs the possibility of getting banned, it's so worth it in some people's minds. Just create a new account, buy $10 in NX, get the chaos scrolls, and Duey. Who cares if the new account gets banned? It's pretty obvious from HT pendants that Nexon forgets to check the Duey table in the database. Though any database administrator KNOWS that if the items in Duey did not get affected but all other items did, then the database is very poorly designed. The only way this can happen is if there is duplicate data in the database, and there's no reason for this kind of screwup. Nexon should be able to change all HT pendants in the database using one query on one table.

Not really. The boxes event that spit out purple surfboards deflated it down to nothing because there were SO many. The agent equipment thing is kind of the same as well, except it went from 0 supply of agent items to XXXX amount of them. Doing that isn't much different from chaos scrolls increasing in quantity.
Obviously just challenging the notion that spitting out more things in an event doesn't ever happen. There's a huge difference between events just doing that and events allowing hackers to do that.

There's a very big difference between "innocent" glitch abuse and hacking.
The BF glitch, while obvious, didn't require the player to do something unusual to abuse. You met a monster, you attacked it with your skills, it died. As fast as any other monster attacked with that skill... But for incredibly high exp. Still, you were using the game client as downloaded from Nexon's site. No third-party programs, no packet editing, no wz editing, no shady practices like half-disconnecting your internet ("smuggling"), etc. Totally innocent.
So, until Nexon announced it was a glitch, they couldn't ban people for it.
Similarly, the tokens dropped from Jr. Newties all by themselves. People collecting them didn't do anything but play their clients, innocently. That time Nexon fixed it fast enough to not require a warning, but also didn't ban people.
These duped scrolls, however, were created by using a "third-party program" to interfere with the client's communication with the server, and this is obviously malicious intent. You don't do that innocently, however ignorant or oblivious you are. Bans are entirely justified in this case.
Buying the duped scrolls could conceivably be considered innocent - if it weren't for the fact that people who could afford 100 of them, even at the 5m price, had to know enough of the game's economy to know such market-flooding could not possibly happen in a legitimate way. (Or were meso-buyers who deserve banning anyway)

Common sense.
I had no problems with this convo up till "Certain circumstances have made it easier to get than normal", as that line is not something everyone would've known. To me, everything up till that line was common sense, but that line definitely hinted the convo in a certain direction. Not everyone would know that certain circumstances have made them easier to get than normal, and really, more often than not, many people will assume the obvious; that an event is going on making them easier to get. Glitch/hack is definitely not the first thing to come into mind when I think of "price anomally" and it shouldnt be, though I guess I should start thinking that way.
What about the people who bought massive amounts of hwabis during the rog summon glitch? Should those people be banned as well?

Situation is too difficult to analyze. If Nexon were to ban people who accumulated a certain amount of Chaos Scrolls, and ban those people, what of those that didn't care for Chaos Scrolls and instead hoarded Hwabis? Should you ban those people as well? I might elaborate later on, feeling rather lazy.

To be honest I'm tempted to do it but my pride is holding me back. Although everyone is expecting a huge deflation in pink capes and facestompers, I don't expect a huge plummit. People forget that the scrolls maybe more common but the item's they are commonly used for are at the same rate. Therefore it'll actually inflate PAC prices, clean ones obviously and still maintain the same price. How on earth they are going to fix this without massive roll back is beyond me. Obviously though, the smart players are hoarding them, storing them and leaving them alone for a very long time. I'm still on the fence about it because honestly, thers no repercussions besides some players scolding you for it. On the other hand whats the difference between a criminal and someone immoral? One hasn't been caught.

You're right about that. How is a person supposed to be able to differentiate? If one person decides to hack, it's obvious they'll do it on a different account not linked to their main. Secondly, once they get the goods that they wanted, they'll Duey or somehow transfer it to their main. You won't know they hacked. Then there are the people who won't hack, yet takes advantages of the loophole and buys things that are cheap, then sells it back when the item(s) are/is in high demand.
Is it wrong? Maybe. It depends on the person. What I think might be smart, might be immoral to another.

Still wish I could've at least messed around with some Chaos scrolls. Seems like this time the only thing Nexon managed to Chaos scroll was the game.

Regardless if the glitch is obtainable with regular gameplay (ie the tokens/8x exp/bf glitch) they're still glitches. And many have sat by and watched these things go by as they occur and the abusers get a slap on the wrist, and those with "morals" if you call it end up far behind.
The thing that is awful is nexon didn't punish the packet editors. They punished the people in possession of these scrolls. And they didn't punish all of them, they punished a portion of them. If nexon is going to react on glitch abuse, they should react on all types of glitch abuse - thereby removing the question of what will happen if you do X. and they need to find a method to react on them equally and not just hand down a ban to 1/4 of the users that actually abused it.
Better yet, get some decent quality testers in there and stop these before they occur. But hey that's just wishing for a miracle.
Here's the other thing, equating actions on a video game such as maple to be equivalent to your morality as a person is a little bit off. Particularly when to a lot of us this game has let us down so many times that we can't just bring ourselves to care any more. I personally didn't take advantage of this situation, but in a game where if you don't act quickly in a lot of cases, you can lose millions, I can completely understand why people did

That doesn't explain why it essentially started on March 13th, despite there being no patch or event starting at that time or for weeks around it.
And has Nexon ever done a one or two day event? Usually they last a month or so. And if that were the case, it's better to put off a couple days because guess what - item prices tend to drop over the period of the event.
All the people who rushed to buy the items ASAP knew something fishy was going on, they just wanted to risk the consequences for a chance at profit (seriously, buying several hundred chaos scrolls for <10mil each? Way to be greedy)
If they're lucky, Nexon will look at their accounts, delete the chaos scrolls & any money earned by reselling them, and unban them. Losing that "hard earned" money is punishment enough.
I wouldn't mind chaos scrolls legitimately deflating to 5-10mil each but when it literally happens overnight and there's no visible ingame source, something is not right.

The only reason why morals don't seem to fit into videogames is because more often than not, there appear to be no consequences. Maple Story for all purposes is confined from our real life and has little meaning to our future life prospects if things go wrong. Accounts are dispensable and can always be remade. A part of us believes that morals are strictly defined by consequences. If choosing between right or wrong has no impact, then morals don't apply. There is another school of thought that believes morals should apply to everything. Deontological thinking mandates that we think of moral thought for the sake of it being moral. Want to be a good person, then be good regardless of there being no, some, or little consequences. Do it for the sake of doing the good thing. After all, isn't it moral thinking that morals are supposed to be drive our decisions, and not be conditional upon the consequences? I'm not going to say that judging morals on consequences is a bad thing. It's just that it's wrong to believe that all humans base their morals on the possible return.

You guys that are all happy that the glitch abusers and those that bought the scrolls got banned but one can't help but think how dirty Nexon is with the way they run business. No I am not a victim of getting banned but I do feel sorry for those that bought scrolls and got banned, I heard people with 2 chaos scrolls on their inventory got banned. JUST 2 CHAOS SCROLLS. I can care less about the hackers that abused the glitch, they deserved it though it could have been prevented had Nexon stepped it up much sooner.
How long was this glitch being abused throughout the day? How long was the span between the moment they announced the unscheduled SC till the SC was actually performed? Nexon just waited around, hoping to catch more people doing it instead of announcing an immediate Emergency Check. Really nasty. They continue to try to hide the fact that there was no glitch involved, they don't even announce anything. Back when NxJoeW and NxProse was working for Nexon, they knew about the bigfoot glitch, they made an announcement on the Maple Story header and the main site saying those abusing the glitch will get banned. These new idiots working for Nexon are trying to keep a squeeky clean image by not announcing pomegranate and they wait around too long to fix their pomegranate too.
