Score another kill for the hackers. Tonkpils80 a lvl 18x BM was hacked yesterday and said he quit Maple. I wasn't on when he found out he got hacked and said he quit, but heard from guildies, I am estimating he lost multiple billions in mesos and equips.
I mention this because he is mathematics/programming whatever else he is taking in college major, and just a day or two before he got hacked. Its possible it was the night before, he was having a conversation in buddy list that discussed hacking.
To paraphrase.
He said that he couldn't be hacked.
said he didn't believe Nexon's database's had been compromised because Nexon would be doing something about it if their own security had been breached.
said he believe that all of these people getting hacked probably visited a phishing site but didn't realize it.
said he could make a phishing site very easily and bet a ton of people would go to it.
Now he's been hacked too. I don't say this to make fun of him, but to show that he is the third legitimate computer programmer I know of who has been hacked in the last couple of weeks. People that know how to protect their system. People that were sure their was no malware on their computer. People that could make their own hacks if they wanted too. Just like Fumni, (hi Fumni), Tonkpils80 probably just became a believer in a Nexon security breach too.

This sounds more and more like some hacker(s) gotten hold of Nexon's encrypted password list along with the IGN, userID and possibly email too. If that is true, then they are using some form of dictionary hack to pick off those that had a easy password, and maybe selectively using brute force (generating all combinations) for the targeted possible rich maplers.
The defense for this would be to change password often and with a strong password (one with numbers embedded into it and not a word in the dictionary).

If you choose to ignore details and only look at the pieces that support your conclusion you can make anything seem plausible.

45 minutes ago my Maple character was broken into while I was playing Mabinogi and they proceeded to drain every drop of NX on the account by buying a Maple Leaf for the exact amount in MTS.
Neither my pin nor pass was changed, my gmail log shows that the only person who's accessed my email account was my own static IP address, I haven't played maple in months, a keylogger wouldn't have my PIN, the password isn't a dictionary one and isn't one I used anywhere else. I haven't been to any sites that Phish, I haven't replied to any fake Nexon emails, I have no keyloggers, trojans, or similar anywhere in my network, I'm not playing via unsecured wifi (LAN all the way).
I'm pretty sure the only reason I have my equips still is I bought permanent locks for everything (or it's Reverse) and then hammered them when it came out and maxed out those slots too.
I have no idea what they're doing to get in, but admit I was mistaken; clearly something is afoot.

Well, I'm sorry to hear this has happened. But I'm even more so worried now, because up till now almost all cases involved a hacked into e-mail. Your case seems to indicate that no one can do anything against this,

Maybe now people will believe us instead of just saying "Oh, you're being stupid and visiting bad sites or sharing accounts" (Not saying you did that or trying to offend you)
There are times when that happens. But this is a very high amount of people all of a sudden relative to previous times. If you have say 10 people get hacked a week on average, then at one point, the hackings go to say 50+, then it's pretty likely something is wrong.

I have taken my fair share of bashing and accusations in regards to this being one of the first targets. Its all well and good that people are starting to understand but I feel sorry for you guys as it is still rough for me and its been a month since its happened and 2 weeks since they deleted my shad. This should not be happening, as which each high level 180+ that gets cracked I hope that nexon might actually do something but their constant lack of attention to this is infuriating.
The game will fall into the dark ages where the highest level most experienced players will be removed from the comminity for its the high levels that wont ever restart after the years of investment they have put into the game. Its better not come to that, its not an epidemic where entire guilds are getting destroyed on a daily basis but a slow leeching drain on the player base that nexon can ignore, whoch only profits the hackers.

Lucky on your equips Eos, I would have locked my stuff now if I still has my account intact once I knew this thing could happen randomly no matter how secure you are. Its not the 5b raw mesos that upsets me, its the irreplaceable most godly gear in the server that you will never see for sale tha'ts the backbreaker.

Luck nothing - People told me I'd only ever need those locks if I were stupid enough to share my account, since I never had any intention of doing so they were a "waste".
I got them just in the case of this specific sort of event - You can't trust your own security, let alone someone else's.

Sorry to hear that Eosian.
And honestly, to those saying keylogger, sharing etc, I don't think in the 4 years or more that i've played maple, i've ever seen this many people talking about it, let alone this number of veteran and older players, particularly computer savy people that have been getting hacked.
And not that I thought it would help, i put a ticket into nexon a month ago about it, and they autoclose them. What are you guys filing under that leaves them open?

Sorry for your loss. Have you changed your password anytime since the 'server upgrade'? Since you've been inactive I'm guessing the answer is no, but I'd still like to verify.

I'm thinking they're doing ths alphabetically, or using a certain algorithm that we're not seeing. Notice how not all LV200's are hacked? Why is it that they're targetting specific people, if this is the case. A guildie of mine thinks it's alphabetical, but if that's the case, it'd be by IGNs, which it isn't. We're also assuming it's alphabetical by IDs, which it also isn't. Last option would be by passwords. Then there's the rumors about the database-breach*, so no one knows for sure.
* = But that's also unlikely, because had that been the case, once again, the best of the best would be hacked.

I have been lurking this thread since it opened, and I think it's finally time for me to add my story.
I also, was one of the first people hit. My 107 Hermit account was hacked on December 1st and cleaned out of several bil worth of mesos/items and 60k NX. Only the three front characters were touched, my 4th mule on the second page was not. I'm not sure if it's pure coincidence or it is in fact a part of this whole ordeal, but I can finally come to terms with things. I know for a fact that I did not visit any phishing site and no one had my info. I just assumed I got a keylogger from visiting one of the maple forums (SP, SW, BM), because that's the only sites I ever visit regarding maple. I scan my computer pretty much weekly with multiple cleaners/anti-virus/anti-spyware programs. Also, only my main account was attacked, my second account which had the same pin and password was not touched. I have only been playing since May 2009.
I'm not sure if any of you have, but I did find my hacker selling my items in FM thanks to the good people on this board and a few friends of mine who saw him selling my gear. I submitted multiple tickets/reports to Nexon, but of course, Nexon didn't do anything, and auto-closed the ticket. I have since quit the game because there is no reason to support a company that can't even address their players concerns.
**I forgot to add that my account was made a few years ago (can't remember exactly), but I only actually started playing last year. I remember making the account, but never making any characters for it because I got too lazy to think of a name and found other things to do.***

Just out of curiousity, how many that were hacked logged in to fm10 when they logged in after the attack? Also how many people had only the frontpage of characters attacked and not the 2nd page?

I don't know about locking my items on the count the hacker can unlock them. Why is it that nexon respond to those tickets faster than any other ticket?

I don't believe that is the case. A friend of mine haven't touched his maple account since April 2009 due to his work schedule and the character came on (the hacker) during mid December 2009. Therefore, I don't believe it has anything to do with charging NX.

This was true for 1 of the 10 people hacked in my guild(only the first page hacked). I swear though he was the DUMBEST hacker possible, he was on the account for a good 2 hours, and hopped around trying to equip my guildie's claw (he had everything on his aran, on the 2nd page and his NL did not have enough dex). Then he proceeded to the FM to "B>dex pots@@@@@", all the while we followed him, and convinced him "dex pots" were sold in Magatia. We were just trying to run the time untill the Owner would be able to reset the password at midnight.
Thankfully it worked. But yea...this was just once case. Everyone else was pretty much efficiently wiped out.

Nope and nope. My account was just a mule account...I almost never used it and couldn't charge NX on it.

Only went for my main, they left me in FM13.

My last eight months of NX has all been from liquidizing my maple accounts, so same here.

They only unlock permanent locks before expiry and those take a SC to get to.
