Pokémon X and Pokémon Y - Crowhogan33 - 2013-09-19

That Polygon interview with Junichi Masuda.

Something interesting out of it:

Quote:"As for including Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle in the game — when you first meet Professor Sycamore, he will give you the choice of one — this wasn't always the plan, Masuda said. But after seeing the designers' ideas for what Mega Evolutions of these three Pokemon would look like, the team knew they just had to include them.

"Originally I didn't plan to put them into the game [as starters], but the Red and Blue starters have always been really important to us," Masuda said. "And I knew that I wanted to give them Mega Evolutions, so I gave the direction to the designers. When I saw the designs that they came up with, I thought they were very cool and I wanted to give players the opportunity to get ahold of these Pokemon — and because in Red and Blue you receive the Pokemon from a professor, I felt it would be fitting to receive them from a professor [in X and Y] as well.

"It also fits well with the story," he said. "The professor in X and Y is researching Mega Evolutions, so it all just kind of matched."

[Spoiler=Highlights of the interview if you don't wanna read it]- The overworld is NOT in 3D, but battles will be.
- Pokemon get experience when you capture the Pokemon is was fighting
- Kalos Pokemon will not be getting Mega Evolutions.
- The Pokemon Center is still combined with the Pokemart, but it also contains an area to customize your trainer's appearance.
- There are a LOT of Pokemon from previous gens that will appear in the tall grass or flowery patches across the region. Pidgey, Caterpie, Pikachu, Zigzagoon and others were mentioned by name. Wild Pokemon encounter rates will vary depending on the color of the flowers you're walking through, with some Pokemon being exclusive to some areas.
- Masuda has also confirmed that they are NOT trying to make the goal to capture every Pokemon, though this does not mean you're not gonna get a reward for doing so (probably).
- You can run from the beginning of the game because Masuda says people in France move very fast.

I have totally fallen in love with this pokemon. I wonder what the shiny form will look like. I'm thinking maybe a dark green or brown like a real T-rex.

Drawing of a MegaAmpharos riding Amaurora (Or whatever its name is), anyone?

Import a 3ds and buy download codes. Even if you're in one of those countries who get ripped off by your home prices, have someone buy you a code and paypal them the money.

That said: the 3ds hasn't been hacked yet and so no working emulator exists (Though supposedly some people are claiming low level homebrew and a flashcard that work on 3dses, but has already been blocked by firmware updates by Nintendo, well before they even released it). Any you see claiming to be are probably trojans or worse.

Also, you're not allowed to ask for those on southperry (warez rule).

It's actually intriguing they went with that design because there's a theory that a Trex had feathers on some parts of its body, like the pokemon.

With Colress holding on to MegaAmpharos. with lots of bishie sparkles.

That would be fabulous.

Also, kinda related since I mentioned Colress, I saw a theory that Colress might be involved in Mega Evolution this gen, going off some of the cryptic things he said in B2 and W2 regarding "latent power" and "bonds between trainer and pokemon"

I thought there was no way to tell what color dinosaurs were. Just the texture of their skin/scales/whatever covered their flesh. Brown or green may look good on a T-rex, but there's no real way to tell.

People think Colress is next to Looker in this picture.

True, but it's likely they were a dull green/grey colour so that they blended in with the surroundings more

Ah yes, I forgot about that picture. I'll admit, I didn't notice that the first time I looked at it, but once I heard that theory, I did Tongue

EDIT: Oh wow, holy crap
I opened a few booster packs in TCG online a few days ago and got 2 powerful trainer cards, but you can only use one of them in a deck, so having 2 of them was pointless.
I went into the trade room and there was a public offer trading one of those cards for a 10-card booster pack. So I thought, why not. I usually get absolute trash from booster packs. I got this super rare card:

I wish I was this lucky in maple, jeez.

Hey guys, it just hit me... If the whole "X and Y will include all Pokemon from all previous games, offering the largest selection of Pokemon in any of the series' titles." is true (I'm sure it is), then that means we can get all the starters and legendaries (okay, well most. I'm sure we wouldn't be able to get Mew, Celebi, Arceus, etc) right? That'd certainly be pretty awesome! Glitter

Or, maybe they mean see...? And not catch? That's the way I'm taking it - that we'll be able to catch 'em all.

That means I might just complete the pokédex for once. Rolleyes It was always such a pain before... Frown

I doubt they even mean that. They probably mean that all pokémon from previous games are accessible through the game if you have them to transfer over. There were some 170ish pokémon missing from black/white2.

And then there are the pokémon which you "can" get all of, but are limited by choice (e.g. you get to choose one of the 3 kanto starters).

At minimum, I seriously doubt all the legendary pokémon are catchable. There are what, 50 or so legendaries at this point? I can't imagine they will have included en ough events for all of them, and having that many legendary pokemon just running wild around the area would be ridiculous.

Alright, that makes a bit more sense - and yeah (for starter pokemon) I'm sure you'd only get to choose one.

Also, 48 counting Xerneas and Yveltal (49 with Phione). Perhaps for legendaries they could be based on what version you have?

Before I read that article, I was expecting 400 ~ 500 pokemon in XY. Not really expecting them all, but ya never know. We'll have to see!~

They will probably split some pokemons into groups of version exclusives and pick 1 out of 2/3(think latio/as), so you can't 'catch em all' on your own.

Don't forget that GTS will allow you to trade for any Pokémon now regardless of whether you have its data or not. So as long as WiFi is available you'll be fine.

An article about XY on Eurogamer.

Some things I found interesting in this article:
Quote:One of the few early story tweaks is that you now receive your first Pokémon via a group of friends. (Your choices are tough-shelled grass choice Chespin, vulpine fire beastie Fennekin and the frog-like water option, Froakie). Your pals accompany you through the game's initial locations, and you don't meet the game's Pokémon professor, Augustine Sycamore, until after the first gym. It's at this point you'll receive your Kanto starter, one of Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. You'll also get to battle the professor, too, Masuda hinted.
We knew we'd see him later on, but now we know when.

Quote:Don't expect any old regions to return. 'Kanto was in Gold/Silver as post-game bonus content,' Masuda explained. 'Since then we've focused on post-game bonuses being in the new region.'
I wasn't expecting to travel to another region afterwards, but some people were expecting it... Rolleyes So that puts an end to that.

Edit: There's another article on another Eurogamer website (I guess there's more than one?) but it's in Portuguese, but some interesting parts from that (I google translated, so...):

Quote:Eurogamer: Yes, I already knew. This "something" of Pokémon X & Y ensures a better chance of getting a shiny pokemon than this method?
Junichi Masuda: Maybe. You'll have to play to find out.
Hironobu Yoshida: This time with the shiny Pokémon, from the perspective of a designer, try out more colors, making them more rare. The possibility of finding one is very low, but I think it will be very exciting when you find one.

Quote:Eurogamer: Last question. Among the new Pokémon, which are your favorites?
Junichi Masuda: My favorite pokémon at the moment is the Sylveon. It's a Pokemon that always used during the development and testing. It is very cute but also very strong.
Hironobu Yoshida: My favorite pokémon is Froakie. This is my choice because I like how it evolves. When you start playing you will be able to see for yourself. I think the evolution spectacular and I hope that everyone has the opportunity.

IGN also has an article up.

Also, we know what X and Y stand for:

Quote:The names of X and Y represent the philosophy we had behind the two games,” explained Yoshida. “We’ve taken the idea of X and Y from the geometric X- and Y-axes. They represent two different ways of thought. At the same time, we want to convey a message encouraging people to find a common ground, where X and Y converge.
