176K is currently lower end of upper-middle in this country regardless, so I think a lot of people don't really understand that. My dad made almost as much as well for around 31 years, as a regional sysadmin for an international chemical company; you really can't base it all entirely on the amount of money they make. I agree with a lot of points both of you are making though, perhaps for different reasons than why you are making them, but nonetheless. Politics IS a field mostly filled by pomegranatefaced liars, but mostly is not entirely. I go out and eat with a group of my parents' (and now mine, though they are significantly older I prefer the company of older people to begin with) friends, and one of them is a liason between the political leaders in this state and the elected ones in D.C. for healthcare (Kentucky by the way, and yes, she speaks frequently with Mitch, and yes he is as stubborn as he seems on almost everything), and she told us a bit about Bevin. She didn't like the looks of him from the election campaign, so she was very surprised to find how reasonable he was in real life, he hired multiple field professionals with differing viewpoints in each field to oversee everything he was not intimately familiar with, and he takes their advice seriously and acts on it; 100% of politicians are not lying scumbags, just the vast majority of them, some of them are smart enough to know that they are not smart enough to handle everything without outside help, and that's the biggest problem that gets in the way of them doing a good job, pride to the extent of insanity. None of us would have ever have known any of this had she not told us, the media simply does not report on things that do not fit their narrative, specifically, positive actions made by conservatives.

Honestly I could care less about foreign policy at this point, the next generation in that seat is going to be focusing on Healthcare, immigration and if they have time, the social programs such as social security. If bernie gets in, put healthcare/affordable college in one subject.

It's been more an "occupation" than a "war", for the past 15 years. We are trying to liberate people who don't want to be liberated for the most part; some do, in some areas, and it would be fine to focus on those areas for resettlement and occupation, but for the rest, a "war" would have us turning their cities into glass craters. Force, force APPLIED CORRECTLY, is the only thing that gets through to extremists. There will be civilian casualties, it's inevitable, and I understand why people would be mad about that; there are two lines of reasoning, and I can't with good conscience follow either. One is that, by not overthrowing their corrupt religious groups, the civilians are as much to blame as the terrorists are. The other is that they are too afraid to do anything. I can't follow the former because of the latter, and I can't follow the latter because they should at least get -some- form of backbone after tens of thousands of years, every human has a breaking point and they should have reached theirs long ago. The answer isn't nuking entire cities, though it would be be quite satisfying to do so and simply wipe our hands of this whole ridiculous issue, but it certainly isn't to fight defensively against them, either. Defensive is what they are best at fighting against, because they have no fear of rushing in to their deaths, it's what the terrorist organizations want to do, what they -don't- want to happen is for them to get raided in the middle of the night and die "without honor" or whatever bullpomegranate they feed themselves.
While it is incredibly callous, the best deterrent would be to start fighting in ways where they are forced to break their own religion's rules in order to engage; I don't know enough about any of it to know how that might be done, but it will discourage them from continuing very quickly, out of fear for their eternal souls which is the only thing they are currently fighting for. We shouldn't need to control people by using fear, but I feel like we as a planet have given that goddamn desert every pineappleing opportunity to shape up and the time for them to solve their own problems in a peaceful, civil manner is well past. Ignoring them is only a viable option when they are not attacking us constantly; if they would just go back to fighting amongst themselves and killing their own people instead of ours, then sure, we could leave them alone again.

Mexico is not at war with the United States, and its people don't want to destroy the US or harm its citizens in any way. They want to join them.
It's the difference between being allowed to shoot and kill someone to defend your life, vs. being allowed to shoot and kill someone to defend your property. Practically everyone agrees with the first, far fewer agree with the second.

You don't need to be a homicidal maniac to fit the bill of "Similar to hitler." because hitler was more than just a maniac, he was a charistmatic leader that was great at working a crowd. The type of person that was able to put a face on all your problems, the type to propose solutions. The difference is that instead of murder, Trump just wants to spend billions and billions and billions of taxpayer dollars on a wall, and throw out all the illegals currently in the country.
It's cheaper to let them stay. He's ignoring the truth in favor of a convenient political lie that gets the masses, not only on his side, but to believe that he is the solution to all their problems, as well as the solution to the threat that he made them so wonderfully aware of.
He wants to show you problems, make you afraid of the problems (eg: rhetoric about mexico importing rape and crime.)
And he wants to put himself as a solution to the problem.
It's the same psychology Hitler used during his rise to power.
