a)Thats either a mage and thats a new type of weapon
or b)They are not a mage and thats a shield.

Mad ramblings about option b)
 Spoiler
All bows are two handed.

Can't equip any bow and a shield at the same time.

Also notice that guns are held in the shield hand, while the normal "main" hand remains empty. In the case of this "monster", she has a glowing "main" hand, and a crossbow looking device in her "offhand".

But you're right. It could be a "shield" as well. But a shield that looks like that wouldn't necessarily be available as a player item, and it certainly would not be usable by Archers (all bows and crossbows take up 2 hands, and if anything a crossbow is more likely to require both hands than a standard bow). If it IS a shield, and it IS available as a player item, I'd say it would be to emulate the dual wield style daggers can get (via the jMS offhand dagger shields) but for Magicians. Can't say that sounds all that appealing to me... I'd rather a magician "dual wield" look to simply be a collection of energy in the other hand.

I didn't make mention of it possibly being a bow, I'm just suggesting it would be really cool if they managed to create a way to make a one handed crossbow.
Anyways, its not like it hasn't been done before.

There are other questions that need to be asked over the possibility of her using a gun.
Isn't the pirate or more specifically the creation of the gun in the maple "universe" something new.
Any information(from other versions quests) over when the pirates were formed as their own class might clarify this a bit, but until then its pure speculation.

"pistol crossbow"

Kinda supports my "it's a gun that looks like a crossbow" idea.

We have guns in the data, so the development team definitely has access to them. When using a Mapler as a basis for creating an enemy, I would expect that they wouldn't limit themselves to things which are released, especially when the thing in question is not necessarily even ACTUALLY a gun.

And then again, I might just be overreaching my understanding of the development process. They might have made an empty handed character and pixel-art drew in the weapon, and in not paying attention, gave the monster a one handed cross bow and also happened to make the enemy holding the bow in its offhand.

I think we might have to stop calling it a shield.

Look back at the picture of the female enemy.
 Spoiler
To the far right is a cutoff of the same enemy.
What are the chances someones aggroed it?

Considering its likely a guided/private play through, the orb might just be a part of its animation sets.

But still, for a while at least a (x)bow could dream of a shield.

'ello again! one of those girls with the glowing hand and what I belive to be some kind of funky crossbow was hit (I don't know if its name is still there, too many names of the stormbreakers being shownRolleyes) you can see the glow of the hand between the stormbreakers between the bottoms of their spears...also I have a theory that the archers could be stormcaster's as well as the warriors are... CC2 = Crimsonwood Cavrens 2?:f6:

Is there a possibility that the monster chick is a "ShadowKnight"?

Well, in Elin Forest the Pirate Representative NPC has a gun, so it seems like guns have been around for a long time. When the Nautilus and Pirates departed, they must have taken the technology to make guns with them.

You are a very interesting individual. O_O

That's a good idea. it seems very likely that, given what we know, that "group" may just be a species of monster.

I thought we had all of Leafrys Map data ingame beforehand? Or am I wrong?

How much size is a normal Map around hmmm Newties 1st map training in Data? few 100 KB's?

And was't araints patch 100+ MB? or am I wrong x_X

Masteria Expansions, Names and the proof for each - Russt - 2008-08-07

Leafre was 117 MB, Ariant like 140 MB, I don't feel like checking again.

Masteria Expansions, Names and the proof for each - MaxHudson - 2008-08-07

So... eh that means this is a small patch? x_X

most of Leafre was 4th job; most of Ariant was its colosseum. (what this tells you: no pq Rolleyes)

I thought most of Araint was changing the incription?

Masteria Expansions, Names and the proof for each - randompeep - 2008-08-07

i dunno, that was a guess! Wink

the point is, you don't need a lot of MB to make a region.

Masteria Expansions, Names and the proof for each - Russt - 2008-08-07

Not really. You have
- New map files (lots of background images and such)
- New monsters (more images)
- New soundtracks
Map, Mob, and Sound happen to be the three largest wz files, and that's because the kind of data they store take up the most room.

Actually ariants patch was mostly the town, pirate job, new encryption, and all the other tons of new data we got.
